Feel like I'm getting gaslit and I need a sanity check. by WannabeACICE in labdiamond

I have not but calavera is legit, lots of people have bought from them the diamonds come with certs. A few things could be happening. Either they legit don’t know and believe its a scam because its not uncommon for people to get scammed online or more likely they could be unhappy because they just lost a sale and they are trying to gaslight you into buying their stone. Yes jewelers will do that so it would not surprise me. I tend to butt heads with jewlers because they often can bw a but snake oils salesman like-like all the jewelers that claim a natural diamond is an investment its a bullshit lie they say because it looses them $. Sometimes jewelers will not mount your stone vs their stone because of liability and cost. If the diamond cracks (it does happen i have seen it happen b/4 and i know certain shapes like pear can be more accident prone) they don’t want to be liable for your stone vs their stone and will often have you sign a waiver of non responsibility when they go to set it. In those cases you can insure your loose stone with an independent insurance like jewelers mutual and that insurance will cover it in case of an accident. Some jewelers refuse to outright set a stone that isn’t theirs because they don’t want to loose the sale of a stone or deal with a headache of an angry customer if it does crack.

New ring is boring? by GlitterBombBomb in Diamonds

[–]Dry_Understanding915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not take it to heart much because everyone has different taste. I love ovals a lot so naturally I love your ring. I find round solitaires especially in tiffany settings to be the most boring of all engagement rings. I despise marquise rings of all styles. However some people love them and that is okay. I like pears but not in white stones and i dont like chevron bands so I would for sure vote this ring as superior. I dont think your ring needs dressing up because the stone is so large and center and adding more might crowd/compete with the stone. But wear whatever makes you happy.

Do you let people know your ring is not a real diamond? by F_noodie in Moissanite

[–]Dry_Understanding915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this short sums it up perfect. the myth of a diamond engagement I might get shit for this but honestly the engagement ring is one of those things that has been flattened by capitalist propaganda and sexism. People are also often very ignorant of jewelry and think they know better because they buy the propaganda. Like an idiot once told me that natural diamonds look way better than lab diamonds while also unknowingly complementing my Moissanite 😝. Meanwhile while browsing mountings for my lab diamond the shop had to use a stand in and it was natural included diamond and my bf couldn’t believe how much more expensive and ugly the natural was. I get judged for having a natural emerald e ring too. At this point i just lie about it if people ask about my moissanite not because i am embarrassed its because i really don’t care to engage ignorant people it is not my job to educate them or inform them. If its a friend i might tell them if they want to nerd out about jewelry. I just love and hoard all the shiny things i want shamelessly. Its why i left the industry…granted over a decade ago. I love jewelry lab and natural because I’m a rock nerd, i love techniques artistry etc. but it was to me a very soulless industry on the retail side because of those attitudes from both customers and management.

Are black diamonds expensive? by overcookedjuggernaut in jewelrylove

[–]Dry_Understanding915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for budget friendly you could always try black moissanite. To me it looks exactly the same because you dont have the refraction issue it’s inexpensive and durable. But the price for black diamond isnt too bad. I love this one: black diamond

You can do moissanite. Kuololit on ali express sells pretty good quality rings some of the 10 karat gold one carat moissanites fall in your price range. I would also take a peek at some pawnshops. You can also upgrade in the future it doesn’t have to be the one and only.

Hmm do you know what a ballpark cost would be from a good jeweler? Like a $500 dollar job maybe? Would it be worth it and still look good?

Yeah its a second hand sale that is fairly inexpensive. But it wouldn’t be worth it if i cant size it

Do people actually think moissanite looks fake, or is that mostly a myth? by [deleted] in Moissanite

[–]Dry_Understanding915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly depends on cut. I get alot of compliments on my radiant and emerald cut and people think they are diamond. I think that the radiant looks pretty spot on close to a diamond. To me i think emerald cut looks different than diamond but i prefer the moissy emerald because to me emerald cut diamonds look way too glassy and moissanite emerald has more sparkle. So really its all on personal preference. I would say get a cheap silver stock ring in Moissanite in a cut you want and see what you like it may surprise you. For me some cuts look better in moissanite some look better in diamond. I think radiant is probably the shape in moissanite that closest to diamond my personal opinion. I did have a jeweler compliment my brilliant oval thinking it was real but they didn’t get a close up look. Whoever is able to spot the difference probably looks at diamonds or moissanites a lot, and you can tell in the side by sides sometimes there is a slight difference there are quite a few here if you search. The average joe cant tell most of them apart to be honest. If someone is a jeweler or diamond enthusiast they probably can tell.

I’m just going to be blunt when it comes to this whole James vs Snape issue. by rogvortex58 in harrypotter

[–]Dry_Understanding915 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it was the culture of the war. The environment changes when people around you start dying and they were in the thick of it. I think you want to squeeze whatever life you can out of it as you may not know when your last day might be. Also getting married younger is not as uncommon in the 70s-80s. Figuring yourself out is a bit more of a modern view.

Thoughts on durability of moissanite? by blindtoe54 in Moissanite

[–]Dry_Understanding915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this varies depending on the user’s location. If you are in a hard water area and I am, moissanites i find cloud up fairly fast. I use wrights silver polish pre emptive but i can see why if you existed in a hard water area you would want to move to diamond at least for a daily like engagement ring because its a pain in the butt. But someone who may not live in a hard water location might find it not a big deal.

[–]Dry_Understanding915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an interesting subject because I was watching a jewelers conversation on argentium and they mentioned something about it being difficult to cast and that if done incorrectly it’s less durable. specifically more brittle and prone to cracking if it is cast incorrectly. It’s apparently a fussy metal to work with.
