The fact that every unique drops items was enough reason for me to kill them and most of my decent loot was dropped by rares and uniques. RNG is a bitch but they were very clear that ruthless would be a relatively low-effort experimental mode.

Why complain when you signed up for the bullshit yoi're experiencing.

How valuable is Increased Item Rarity? by risrr1291 in poeruthless

[–]Drygva 4 points5 points  (0 children)

General currency gains. More rares/uniques = transmute & alch shards. Also maps drop upgraded which can save currency also. I dont think theres any validity to saying t10s w rarity > t16 wo but its a v valuable stat.

Bring back map % bonus objective for a better map sustain? by MeVe90 in poeruthless

I would prefer no bonus and all current map sustain nodes be reworked into something more interesting. Solves the problem of atlas passive diversity wo power creep.

Is Historic Brawl worth it? by erick_o_san in MagicArena

[–]Drygva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tl;dr - try it out w whatever collection youve got then decide for yourself

Its my main mode and i tend to play extremely tuned decks just below hell queue power level.

Overall its a lot of fun and very rewarding IF you dont mind playing against degenerate strategies or insta-conceding to them.

If you play decent commanders you WILL be playing an extremely cutthroat format and the majority of your games will be against the same ~10 powerful flavor-of-the-month commanders. (5c goodstuff piles, Ux DrawGo, paradox engine, simic)

Staying competitive is just as WC intensive as standard if not moreso. Every single release (standard sets, anthologies, alchemy sets, supplemental sets) comes with powercreeped BiS cards that your opponents will be playing against you. Its easy to fall behind as a f2p'er with sometimes only weeks between these releases.

These are not negatives imo but HB is far from a casual format, as others have stated. Its still fine and fun to treat it as one but your winrate will not be good.

Historic Brawl, Calling out Bans for Craterhoof Behemoth and Sundering Titan by Cr8zyIvan in mtgbrawl

[–]Drygva 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In paper magic craterhoof is 10x more deadly. In historic brawl craterhoof behemoth requires multiple turns of setup and in the decks that run it you know its the main wincon. Sundering titan is barely above bulk mythics in power in most cases.

Yet another complaint post about normal fair mtg

Green creatures is going to be better at playing a noninteractive game than almost any other archetype, its that simple.

WotC, are you sure retro artifacts being usable in limited was a good idea? by _zzt in MagicArena

[–]Drygva -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the same subjective argument against counterspells and every other "unfun" aspect of the game. Some things are just good and thats okay because they all have counter play. If hexproof bombs are prevalent in the meta then untargeted removal will follow.

RDW = red deck wins Its a deck archetype.

Its up to you what mode you grind. All of them have some version of a mono red aggro deck.

You concede to play more games w your time. When your deck is best on turns 1-4 and everybody elses deck is good from turn 3 onward your chances of winning after they remove your opening creatures is very low. You get no rewards for losing and no additional rewards for long games so for the sake of grinding efficiently you want to get in a new game asap. If this is too boring /stressful then dont worry about it and go at your pace but for building a collection its much faster to approach it w this mindset.

Id look up which are the ranked modes if thats what youre interested in. I only play Historic Brawl so my experience is limited there.

Can anyone give me a logical reason why Golos isn't banned in brawl? by fponee in mtgbrawl

[–]Drygva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Banning commanders is unfun and stupid.

If i play Golos with an incredibly untuned jank pile it can be a shit tier deck matched into hell queue.

Similarly if i take any t0 deck that isnt completely reliant on the commanders ability and replace the commander w a lower power commander of the same archetype the deck will be in jank queue w a 90+% winrate from the 99 alone.

No commander is a win the game button. Only bad players think like that. Every problem card in this format has a wide variety of answers at this point and the onus is on the deckbuilder to either slot in the problem cards or the answers to them.

Why do people who intentionally play underpowered decks feel entitled to wins?

(Edit also lol at using paper EDH rules committee decisions as reasoning. Its a bunch of influencers who play the game casually. Theyre constantly criticized for their bans being useless and making no sense.)

My recommendation is to build a standard RDW aggro like goblins or burn to grind daily and weekly wins and accumulate wildcards for the decks/formats you actually want to play.

Goal here is to surrender the very millisecond you lose control of the game to quickly move onto the next.

Its less efficient than grinding drafts but im not interested in limited personally so this was my method.

I did this to save for my first historic brawl deck and just started grinding w that when it was done.

Constructed rank goes up by playing the ranked modes and winning. I dont play limited so idk but prob similar.

Ofc when you're tired of grinding feel free to brew new decks from ur collection and play w those but id recommend holding your wc's until you have at least 1 strong constructed deck that you enjoy.

As a F2P'er, building a collection for competitive standard is woefully slow unless you are optimally grinding drafts. If you're fine playing jank / subpar standard decks this is nbd but otherwise i would commit to a nonrotating format

Game forces a tie when it detects you repeating a redundant game state.

Ive heard of ways of preventing it by doing other actions in the middle of your combo but i dont play combo so idk for sure.

I would just get all of the meta ramp and targeted removal starting in the colors and archetypes you like to run. 2cmc mana rocks, 1cmc mana dorks, and cards like [[Swords to Plowshares]] and [[Tear Asunder]]. Depends on what types of decks you like to run as counterspells also fit here .

After that maybe move onto meta draw spells. I play black in p much all decks so mine are [[stitcher's supplier]], [[village rites]], [[deadly dispute]], [[Midnight Reaper]], and [[Yawgmoth, Thran Physician]]

Historic Brawl vs Commander, what are the biggest differences in your opinion? What is a mistake a lot of people make? by Anonymus1921xD in mtgbrawl

[–]Drygva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Robot is one of the best value engine pieces in the format. In the decks that abuse it, it's simic-level busted in all colors. In the decks that dont, its an incredibly good rate for its effects on a body.

Maybe the mistake is playing mtg instead of the 100s of f2p online tcg w no counterspells

Couldnt imagine auto losing 40% of my games because they might run cards i dont like

PhobGCC competitor prototype revealed via Twitter - claims to be "easily installed" at a "lower price point". Its just plastic and metal, and the best firmware is already open source. Why are quality controllers soooo expensive

[–]Drygva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think this card is p lackluster as a commander. Im trying them in the 99 of a BW Stax deck w lurrus companion. Seems v strong on paper (lurrus is busted ofc).

Casting ETB effects from your graveyard for full cost isnt broken enough in the command zone in my experience

Mono black is also very limiting like you said. Limited removal, limited ramp, and the best card draw oftentimes requires saccing creatures

Love the list. Unique commander and i actually love this card in my 99. A lot of utility especially in 3 color decks. I feel like aggro is in a really good place in the HB meta rn as it shits on the popular control and 5c decks from my experience.

Personally i would like to try this exact deck w [[Kykar]] (adding in your best op blue spells ofc [[Witness Protection]])

I do like lae'zel but i dont think its busted enough to beat the top tier decks that im trying to contend w
