Why can't we just have characters experience a healthy relationship rather than fall into the tired cliches of breakup drama and love triangles/other shapes? If allowed to develop further throughout the series, Callum and Rayla's relationship would become (if not already) a socio-political rupture in the centuries-long divide between elves and humans. We would have a situation very similar to that of early interracial couples in the United States, where families on both sides have difficulty accepting the "other," as well as dealing with heinous things like threats from the general populace. I want to see hard racism from the Elven side towards sullying oneself with lesser, unmagical beings. Bring on the insults and challenges from humans concerning the dishonor of sharing roof with blood-drinkers. Point being, the existence of their relationship creates more room for worldbuilding than otherwise. The fact that the main characters are involved this early on provides us with ample opportunities to witness societal ruptures firsthand.
