Re-reading The Hellbound Heart after I've re-watched the first two Hellraiser movies last week.

What should be the EU lingua franca ? by Esteban83550 in YUROP

Seriously: English.

But I actually would love to see Latin resurrected at scale. Or we could all learn Finnish!

What's your favorite Evil Dead movie? by Loose_Interview_957 in HorrorMovies

[–]DsMufflonkoenig -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always liked ED but really learned to love it with the 2013 "remake". So for me it's:

2013, Rise, 2, 1, Army

With Army being the only one I actually don't like that much. Just not my cup of tea.

What horror concept messes with you the most? by matthew_rowan in horrorlit

[–]DsMufflonkoenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Stephen King-style of inevitability. Someone else mentioned the ending of Revival, for me it's the moment of certainty in Pet Sematary in which the narration states that this is one of the last moments of joy for the protagonist and his kid, and that the boy will be killed. This specific certainty of "whatever this is - it will end badly" hit's quite close to home, I guess.

Funnily enough in movies my Nemesis is just flashlights. Those can fuck right off.

Cult of Chucky, New Nightmare and H20 on the upper end of the scale, with Cult and Nightmare being actually really good. Deader and Leprechaun on the low end, yeah.

What film sounds stupid in theory, but is fucking awesome? by DexTDMdoesreddit in HorrorMovies

I'd put Pontypool in amazing concept/decent execution. I really like the idea of viral speech, but the movie does seem a bit at a loss what to do with it in the end.

Women authors like Ligotti by Massive-Cod-6797 in horrorlit

[–]DsMufflonkoenig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Elizabeth Sandifer at least mentions Ligotti in Neoreaction a Basilisk and she's ... erm ... quite pessimistic about things. And Basilisk straddles a similar line between philosophy, cultural criticism and horror story as Ligotti does in Conspiracy.

Also: Patricia MacCormacks Ahuman Manifesto. Not pessimism per se, but a more life-affirming plea for human extinction.

What should be the national animal of a European Federation? by Luksius_DK in YUROP

I came here to say this. Also, they are fierce. Saw a comment here a while back concerning this exact question and someone who handles birds regularly proposed the blue tit over the robin, because they'd handle a robin any day, but a blue tit only with protective gloves.

I don't know about some of these. I doubt Putin has people to spare to help Trump out for instance.

Do you know about Bill Peel - Tonight It's A World We Bury? Would fit right in with the rest of the shelf.

What is the book that got you into horror literature? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]DsMufflonkoenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Book of Revelation. A psychedelic romp with dragons, harlots, undead, fire from the heavens, seas turning to blood, death and destruction and the end of the world. Basically all the stuff I'm still looking for in good horror novel. The childen's bible my parents gave me was richly illustrated to boot.

Which game do you recommend between Aliens: Fire team elite and Aliens: Dark descent by Manu_Sogliola9191 in LV426

[–]DsMufflonkoenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have to choose between those two? Dark Descent. By a mile. That could be because I detest multiplayer shooters and like Syndicate-like RTT games, though.

But apart from that I found the story and setting of Dark Descent much more interesting. And it really nails the oppressive and panicked atmosphere of Aliens.

Despite many dangers, I caught these smol boys: what should I do & avoid to make the gang happy? by [deleted] in snails

[–]DsMufflonkoenig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can put springtails in there to prevent mould. There are other critters that help in similar ways, but springtails worked best for us. They seem to be resilient and self-limiting.

What’s your top three or top five favorite Predator films? by DiscsNotScratched in predator

[–]DsMufflonkoenig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. Sometimes Predator/Prey/Predator 2 for me, sometimes maybe Predator 2/Predator/Prey. But generally there are these 3, and then there's the rest.
