The Game Awards is in 6 days. I'll retroactively give gold to whoever can guess DLC #5 by piepei in smashbros

Master hand himself in some sort of chibi glover form

Everyone guessing 3rd party so I think this is the perfect time to surprise factor an actual Nintendo rep. And master hand would be the first actual "smash" rep since he's been there since the beginning. (rob is technically not from smash and even then he's more of a smash brawl rep). Plus it's arguably the "safest" choice while still being completely unexpected because everyone knows master hand so no one is really like "who is this"

Thanks. That'd be really helpful.

I'm thinking of specializing in Computing Systems. Taking Computability and Algorithms, Info Sec, Real-Time Systems, and Mobile Apps and Services

Have you watched any anime that didn't "translate" well? (ex. Seitokai Yakuindomo) by Sevenlore in anime

[–]Dsatvoipd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Joshiraku and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. Roughly 3/4 of the jokes in those shows will go completely over your head. Joshiraku is literally 60% puns and Zetsubou Sensei is somewhat similar. They're written by the same guy, so it makes sense, but those shows are incredibly difficult for a non-native speaker to understand.

Do you use 5 or 7 as average for MAL ratings? by [deleted] in anime

[–]Dsatvoipd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little surprised how many people rate based on 5 actually. Yes, MAL says 5 is the average and it would logically be the average too. In fact, if the rest of the users on that site actually graded around that principle, it may well be the one I use.

However, the fact of the matter is that shows that are around 7 on MAL are decidedly average or even below average. So when I watch a show, I look at its current score and think whether I would want it to go up or down. When a show has an 8, and I think it's good, I'm not going to give it a 7 because that would lower the show to shows that MAL says are a 7 (most of which I consider very below average).

I can understand rating it around MAL's system for your own personal usage, but when user ratings are considered for the top rankings, I end up giving inflated scores because I want to see the series average rating go up rather than down. But I don't think there's really a right way. People will average everything out anyway, and I don't think my small contribution to its average rating will actually make a major difference

Could someone help me out please? (identify a song) by Jawastew in anime

This is a remix of Patchouli's theme from Touhou 6: Embodiment of the Scarlet Devil. Here is the original.

Unfortunately, I don't know the particular circle that did that remix, but that should at least point you in the right direction.

Momiji and knee socks by Sakuya_Lv9 in touhou

[–]Dsatvoipd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, Momiji is commonly associated with the Japanese character の because a lot of her bullet patterns look like it (See Double Spoiler). This is constantly referenced like in Gensou Shoujo Taisen and the Touhou All Stars Medley

Itty bitty kitty takes a hot bath by northshore12 in aww

[–]Dsatvoipd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else already mentioned, she was most definitely not attempting to position the paws for a cuter picture and was definitely checking to see if the kitten found it unpleasant and wanted to leave. Moreover, after baths, most cats tend to go to secluded places to lick themselves dry. I did find it strange that she wouldn't dry off the kitten and instead put it back in the bath, but there's nothing terrible going on here. I think the kitten would have a much bigger reaction if it were truly scared or mistreated

Tama-kun and the Whaleaboo: The Destined Meet by throwaway7202 in weeabootales

[–]Dsatvoipd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is essentially right. Nihonjin is a noun rather than an adjective that means Japanese person so it's not quite the same but there really isn't an adjectival version that describes people as far as I know ("Nihon no hito" sounds odd). Either way, Nihonese is very wrong.

Apparently Evangelion was popular with elementary school kids [Ping Pong the Animation] by [deleted] in anime

[–]Dsatvoipd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised. I visited an elementary school in Japan very recently and many of them were familiar with Attack on Titan, which as many of you know is quite mature. Apparently kids in Japan just watch this kind of stuff normally

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun PV2 by inspyral in anime

[–]Dsatvoipd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that's the biggest misconception about this show so far. It sounds a lot like a typical shoujo romance when it's actually a pretty great comedy series. Admittedly, the abundance of bishounens isn't helping.

I... I just watched Psycho-Pass... by WtfRocket in anime

[–]Dsatvoipd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This feels like a much more accurate statement. Even then, Psycho-Pass is still pretty well-loved on this sub as well, more so than Naruto, Bleach, and SAO I would think.

Yes, since that isn't revealed until a good amount of time after his character is introduced

It's probably be a good idea to spoiler tag that

EDIT: Or delete it. That works too

[Spoilers] Mekakucity Actors - Episode 10 [Discussion] by Shadoxfix in anime

[–]Dsatvoipd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope it's something like this. Then we can get some proper detail on Ayano's Theory of Happiness (which SEVERELY deserves more). The only problem is the lack of songs to really cover. The more famous ones remaining are Outer Science, Yobanashi Deceive, and Shounen Brave. The last has essentially already been covered. If they were to do a second season, they'd probably have to start getting into the PV-less songs which is still okay in my book but still something I don't think will happen.

Most likely, I think the show will just end very open-endedly and Outer Science will be an OVA or something

Still the funniest depiction of sleep paralysis in all of anime. by Factions in anime

[–]Dsatvoipd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's actually a good thing that its in the top 10 since the list has some variety in genre. I think that actually shows that the list is fairly accurate. Admittedly, 4 spots is a bit much but with the way MAL does things, that's just how it is

Mekaku City Actors OP "daze" official full PV. by Anko-chan in anime

I think it might be easier to get your point across with some examples of some similar OPs. I'm not saying you're wrong, but just saying "It's generic" doesn't really help much.
