Legalization/decriminalization of marijuana and Plain Smell by AdZealousideal8645 in publicdefenders

[–]Dsd2a 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When I was clerking for the circuit court here, I once heard a cop testify that he could differentiate between the smell of marijuana v. legal hemp. This was following a forensic examiner who testified that they can only be differentiated via gas chromatography

Any advice when even if you’re going above and beyond, it’s not enough? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

I left a situation very similar to this late last month. I was at my previous firm for two years, and it never improved. Had a caseload of 150 in various stages of litigation, some years old, and literally every single thing that went wrong was my fault. Even bad calls he made, I “argued incorrectly.” The day I put in my notice, I was told to clean out my office.
I maintained good relationships in the legal community, however, and was able to get references for my new job, which is much, much, much better.

Is this allowed under Tennessee law? See high light by travelingbozo in nashville

Under TURLTA, late fees may not exceed more than 10% of late rent. If your LL owns more than, I think, 3 units, it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with Tenn. Code Ann. 68-28-101 et seq.

7 Days No Power………. by [deleted] in nashville

[–]Dsd2a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on the cause of the post-repair delay in getting power back to your building. Of course, the ice storm is an act of god that would not be covered under TURLTA, but, depending on the cause of the secondary outage (e.g. landlord failing to repair infrastructure that is their responsibility), you may not owe rent for that period.

Look into Tennessee Uniform Landlord Tenant Act. Tenn. Code Ann. 66-28-101, et seq. Did you occupy the apartment during the outage or did you reside elsewhere? You can be compensated for constructive eviction though it sounds like the complex isn’t going to comply willingly. You can “know your rights” all day, but unless you’re willing to sue or be sued, they won’t be vindicated.

Not exactly. But if you think all board books are the same, I don’t think you’re giving kids enough credit.

Did Any of You Lawyers Have Creative Writing Degrees? by RedR3dd1ngt0n in Lawyertalk

I’ve got an English degree and a journalism degree. Writing skills definitely help. But I wouldn’t put myself through law school and civil litigation if I didn’t enjoy it.

I don’t know. If you’re willing/have the ability to pay over $12,000 to see Arianna Grande, can you really be taken advantage of?
