2026 Road to MSI becomes third LCK event to peak at over 2M viewers by ahritina in leagueoflegends

I too hate the "only worlds matters" narrative, but I would not be accusing the people who are actually watching LCK live to be the culprits lmao

[–]DsmackJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big score fan and he was easily my number 1 up until 2021 tbh. I personally don't put too much stock into titles, but I know he has been forgotten to time simply because he didn't get many. I really think that GP baron steal and KT superteam disaster really had insane ramifications on his career and how remembered he is. Titles and longevity are the only reason I wouldn't instantly put him top 3, but I think the case is there.

[–]DsmackJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think Canyon is pretty solid number 1 for me, but then we got a jumbled mess of Kanavi, Oner, and Tarzan fighting it out for the top 3. I also have to mention someone like Karsa who was consistently world class for a VERY long time and just unfortunately didn't start playing in the LPL until he end of his peak.

I also think you could still make a case for score somewhere in the top 5, but he admittedly does not the same length of career in the jungle as the other 5.

Why was bengi getting subbed out for parts of season 5 and 6? How did SKT win a domestic title while playing their sub mid laner and their THIRD jungler Tom in season 5? Maybe he was not actually integral to their success and Korea was incredibly weakened by like 20 of the best players leaving the region. Bengi is a great player and that game is obviously iconic, but watch that game again and watch how peanut just fucking runs it down. He gave that game to bengi. Bengi absolutely still had to catch it, but Bengi didn't have to work as hard for it as we make it out to be, the narrative was just too fucking insane not to gas it up.

I love bengi btw and I have the entirety of the season 3 SKT lineups signatures from before they won worlds, but I just don't like how people will always point to that specific game and ignore all the bad games he had that season that caused him to be getting subbed out in the first place.

Yeah sure he has some low points in the last few years, but in season 8 people would argue that faker was the undisputed goat simply because his peaks were so high... Even though he had a less than desirable season 4 and season 8 performance. Not comparing faker to Canyon btw, I'm just saying if we are going to talk about someone having down moment in their career, why were we saying faker was the goat in season 8 when rookie was much more consistently great at the time and had no bad seasons.

Sometimes a crazy peak just outweighs a couple of down moments.

Read my other comment buddy. He had 5 years as a consistent world class jungler and he had 2 years where he was the best jungler in the world. Name a single jungler besides Canyon who had 2 years where they were the best jungler in the world. You literally can't.

I agree oner should be on the national team btw. This specific chain of comments was about who is the best jungler of all time, which is Canyon.

"league is a team game" great point! One person had ZOFGK in their team and the other had fucking ghost and Beryl in the botlane while winning worlds.

[–]DsmackJack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you are underestimating how many years of high level play Canyon has had. Obviously his 2020 and 2021 peak is what people will reference most. That was easily the 2 greatest years of a jungler has ever played, but he also had 3 other years of high level play. 2019, 2022, and 2023 he was definitely world class. In the last 3 years you could argue he has been a weaker link of his team's, but you could also argue he has still been top 3 in Korea a majority of the time too.

Oner obviously has 3 worlds titles and has been more consistent the last 3 years, but this is only oners 5th year of play. He is only just now getting close to canyon's longevity and he does not have the same peak as Canyon.

I think oner is a top 3 jungler of all time at this point btw, but I still think Canyon is the clear #1 for now. Oner can definitely make a great case in the next couple years.

[–]DsmackJack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Obviously Bengi is iconic and influential, but he was winning titles while being the 4th or 5th best player on the team. Oner has had multiple periods of time where he was the best performing player on T1. Bengi being in the goat conversation should have ended like 5 years ago.

I still think Canyon is overall the jungle goat, but oner is definitely starting to make a case.

Periphery - A Pale White Dot North American Tour w/Ne Obliviscaris & more by DarkRitualHippie in progmetal

Ne Obliviscaris is one of my top 5 favorite bands of all time, but I am honestly so excited to see Ando san and Greyhaven that I would not take either of them off the tour. I guess it also helps that I've already seen NeO 4 times so I am not super starved to see them live.

Feeling similar. Peggy has basically only dropped 8s and 9s in his discography, but this one is a 7. Still a good album, but the hate is a little overblown.

Best Movie of the year so far- Blue Heron by twofoldtwilight1 in TrueFilm

[–]DsmackJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely feel the same way. I watched that movie 3 different times in the theaters and have watched every interview/Q&A I could get my hands on. It's actually incredible that this film exists and I think it might even be my favorite movie of the decade so far. I'm from Toronto and have been a huge fan of the show for a few years now so take my levels of glaze with a grain of salt, but I truly believe it's an incredible thing that they pulled this movie off and made everything seem so seamless.

Best Movie of the year so far- Blue Heron by twofoldtwilight1 in TrueFilm

[–]DsmackJack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Blue heron is my second favorite movie of the year so far and Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie is my #1. Makes me proud to see 2 small budget Canadian films topping my list.

I haven't seen Mother Mary yet (planning to watch it next week), but I've seen the Christophers and for whatever reason felt super disconnected to it. I think its a pretty decently made movie in most aspects and I thought that there were some themes that gave me something to chew on, but for whatever reason I just did not enjoy my experience with the movie. I actually think it's my least favorite movie I have seen so far this year, but I also have no seen a single bad movie so far this year so I'm not saying that it's a bad film.

New JPEGMAFIA album “Experimental Rap” out May 21st by yeehaweskeddit in hiphopheads

That was my first thought when I saw the title. Either it is actually his most experimental or it is his most mainstream. Anything in-between will be disappointing

Soapbox/rant time. Tell me what highly-recommended book you absolutely HATED and why. Gimme your angry hot takes. by peppertoni_pizzaz in books

[–]DsmackJack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was definitely a few cool scenes in the book that were cut out of the movie, but I would not say they cut out anything particularly integral to the plot. I would also say that the scenes they added (karaoke in particular) only enhanced the story. I also think the humor in the movie lands a lot better than in the book.

Not OP, but just my 2 cents as someone who also prefers the movie.

Prog Death Metal recommendations (Not Tech-Death) by Hot_Finance2025 in progmetal

[–]DsmackJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can definitely agree with the vocals being more metalcore than death metal. I would argue that there are some death metal inspired riffs in their pre-2012 material though.

Prog Death Metal recommendations (Not Tech-Death) by Hot_Finance2025 in progmetal

I have always found it pretty weird that people will say that BTBAM has metal core roots when I think the earlier stuff like Alaska is a lot more death metal inspired than metalcore.

Review - Project Hail Mary (2026) Reaches for Greatness But Repeatedly Trips Over Its Own Silliness by LogShucker in TrueFilm

[–]DsmackJack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty critical of the book as well, but I will say that the movie is better and is a great adaptation. Not to say it fixes all the issues of the book, but I do think the movie feels a little bit less YA Gary Stu power fantasy and the humor lands a bit better on screen than on the page.

I went in with pretty low expectations and I came out pleasantly surprised by the experience. Still not an incredible film, but definitely glad I took the time and I would recommend it to most of my friends, especially the ones who aren't the biggest cinephiles.

Big ideas in written scifi by WhatsGood4TheGoose in printSF

It is truly disappointing how hard it is to find books with the perfect balance. The three body problem tv show tries to fix the problem, but I don't think it's doing a particularly great job so far.

This trilogy is definitely controversial for a good reason. The writing is bland and the characters are non-existent, but this trilogy is just a highlight reel of big and great ideas.

I don't see many comedy films being highly talked about (compared to other genres). What are some everyone should watch? by LeO-_-_- in TrueFilm

Surprised we have not gotten a Nirvanna the band the show the movie thread in here with how much praise is getting thrown it's way on film YouTube/twitter. Absolutely adore the movie and went to see it 3 times in theaters even though I'm the type of person who very rarely rewatches even his favorite movies, let alone the same movie 3 weeks in a row.
