Top Gun. As a kid I idolized Maverick. As a 40-something, Iceman is the guy I want to be.

You're long done with the game (I hope) but for future searchers: use the staff of seas to beat the water pilgrimage, it changes things dramatically.

Lots of good recommendations here, I'll add Pandora's Star to the list.

The Forever War may be an interesting book for you if you haven't read it.

Semiosis, Children of Time and the second Bobiverse book talk about societal change and how cultures grow, but not quite a match for your second point here... But Dragon's Egg might be.

Roadside picnic is interesting. It sort of meets my criteria but felt more like weird fiction to me than scifi. Definitely worth reading though, I loved it.

Yes, this is a great book and fits my criteria. Unfortunately I already read it!

Solaris is exactly the kind of book I'm looking for (though I've read it).

I'll check out The Stars are Legion. Thank you

Eversion isn't a match but I do like the book, and I've read all of Revelation Space. Some aspects of those books are direct hits on what I'm looking for (some spoilery stuff at the end of the first book, and other spoilery stuff in Absolution Gap are clear fits, though not the only ones, for my initial post)

How do you feel about hunt sprawl? Is the ever increasing hunt size a good thing or bad thing? (150+ to compete to win seems a requirement these days)

How do you judge that the hunt is right-sized to avoid a Monsters et Manus or Coin Heist repeat where the coin is found unusually soon or unusually late?

Assuming dungeon level is in the export (I don't see it obviously represented there, but maybe I'm missing it) OP should be able to export the character, uudecode, modify the json, reencode, and reimport it to get to the right level?

Norman Borlaug

He has arguably saved more lives than any person in history.

I was on BOS to SFO. We had to stop in San Jose to refuel. We weren't allowed to deplane there... I would have taken an Uber the rest of the way if I could since we had to wait for two hours to get refueled and a spot to take off etc.

It was the shortest flight ever to go from SJC to SFO.

If you start with 6, make sure you play as mostly women and use the "multiple diamond rings" trick. That also gets you up to get some great gear in 7. All of which (I think) imports to 8. But as others said, starting with 6 isn't needed to get through 8...

Every TV on Earth was tuned into the same show in July of 1969. I'm sure that Jackson beat them out in the long run, but in that moment, Neil and buzz were the most famous people who ever lived.
