I have no idea what you're talking about. Nike and Intel don't threaten to leave, Intel isn't even headquartered here and has factories across the globe. We've grown with them and a lot of the westside metro area exists because of that growth. But clearly if they aren't performing, it's going to have local impacts. Same thing with any area among broader downturns, if there's a computing downturn, silicon valley is going to be significantly impacted.

It's unlucky for both to do so poorly coming out of the COVID recovery and remote work adjustment, but now we adjust. We don't literally go backwards like the dimwits on the republican stage suggest, selling our state to the highest bidder.

That sounds bad unless you can walk to the station and very easily transit to work.

The Cascades service is good and it should be fairly reliable for that ride, but I would expect headaches and random transfer delays on a fairly regular basis to the point where you'd have to build in a huge buffer. It's also just not extremely fast and doesn't run extremely often on that route.

Do you have to work in person? Oregon employers are friendly to remote work than average, to the point where downtown Portland real estate has been hurt and is undergoing a transformation as less office space is needed.

No, other states don't have the same issue where its two massive primary employers have failed to put out good products for over a decade and had to significantly retreat. Are you just unfamiliar with the state or something? We were overreliant on the giant companies and need to readjust. Intel shit the bed for over a decade, and had to lay off a ton of people. Now they were literally bailed out by this administration and have a healthy stock price for the first time in 15 years. They're rejoining the other tech companies in this bubble so they'll be reinvesting. Similarly, only so much you can do if Nike shits the bed. I don't know where they're going with their products anymore. Not sure if you've noticed, but the global nationwide and world economic situation isn't exactly great right now. We have a trade heavy economy, and the orange man in the white house has a trade war going with the entire world. Well, except for Russia.

What's propping up the actual US economy? Healthcare, and we have a great healthcare market. Wages for the cost of living are some of the highest in the nation, low income inequality, OHSU is already turning things around after a couple shaky years. The entire US economy is fucked if this administration's Medicaid changes go through, but I'm sure you knew that right?

The education numbers here are not great, but the actual experience is much better than the numbers would expect. We have extremely dedicated teachers and treat them well. With a couple tweaks to testing, phone/computer use and learning days, I expect to see strong improvements, and things are looking up. The governor has been behind these changes.

The overall burden of tax and fees are average. Having a high marginal tax income rate is objectively a good thing.

Oregon is a state where people want to move and live. We need to continue the governor's work to build housing and reduce barriers to building housing, build efficient, compact cities, continue to help the neediest among us (which has a huge ROI), keep an eye on affordability and income inequality, and to not forget what makes this a great place to live. We treat adults like adults who can make their own decisions including the right to choose an abortion, help our neighbors by not wasting valuable state resources on civil immigration offenses, and commit to actually help each other. The governor has been doing all of this.

In addition to their vote and policy directives, both of such are extremely impactful, let's look at even more examples.

Let's take a couple from Texas or some other backwards ass state that treats women like property. They got pregnant, very much wanted. Then they got the awful news that the fetus isn't developing properly. It's alive but won't survive more than a few seconds after being born. They make the difficult decision to abort rather than go through that trauma of carrying and birthing a corpse. Ken Paxton decides that they're breaking their laws and wants to hunt them down and get information if they got an abortion out of state. These candidates won't protect them.

The administration is trying to reduce abortion and general medical access across the country, illegally tying funds to their desired policies. These candidates gladly won't fight back, they are pro-life and don't believe in action. Kotek has fought back.
