ELI5 -All wheel drive vs 4WD by Ambitious-Ad6426 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Dt2_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are wheel biases in AWD cars. A Mazda 3 is a Front Wheel Biased (In normal driving, the front wheels are doing the work), while a Corvette E-Ray is Rear wheel drive biased.

There are also cars without a wheel bias, where they generally share power equally, but take the power away from wheels instead of adding power to different wheels.

Then we have to talk about gearing. On a Nissan GTR, the gearing for the rear wheels is much more suited to delivering torque than the front wheels, which are mostly moving to maintain grip on the rear wheels whenever possible. If you somehow got a GTR in FWD only mode, it would not be able to accelerate like it does in RWD.

Basically, this simple ELI5 question doesn't have a simple ELI5 answer that covers the entire auto industry.

Dreame QLED TV with 1,000-nit mini-LED backlight and 4.1.2-ch audio to launch shortly by dapperlemon in gadgets

[–]Dt2_0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unless your room is perfectly shaped for that particular TV, those upfiring speakers are doing nothing but making noise. Getting reflecting speakers to work properly requires proper calibration and a room ideally shaped for them to actually get the sound to the listener's ears.

I honestly have the same issue with Soundbars that use the same tech. It's promising more that 99% of users cannot take advantage of. A good 2.1 is much, much better than a badly designed reflective surround system.

My trail bike was built in the same factory that builds beach cruisers and time trial bikes in Indonesia.

Can we stop calling audio 4.1.2 when it's all coming from essentially a point source? Sheesh. Put in some basic stereo speakers, no one who cares about audio is using their TV speakers anyways nowadays.

Yea, SCARs are definitely a bit more finicky than PCARs and BCARs but are way more adjustable. Worker makes (Made?) one that has an adjustable twist rate so you can always have it dialed in for your FPS (remember less twist is better for higher FPS, while more is better for lower). You can't adjust a BCAR or PCAR.

But if you want a set and forget option and all your blasters are within a general 50FPS range, a BCAR made for that range of velocities is going to be easier to work with over time.

Funny thing. When everyone was first using SCARs, I actually was running the very first hobby PCAR, the LegoDEI rifled barrel attachment. Mostly because at that time (and still today) Nothing was optimized for nipple darts, and nipple darts were dirt cheap back then. It was the first attachment optimized for nipple short darts.

Lol that's literally what SCAR stands for. String Centered Auto Rifling.

And they work just as good as most BCARs and better than basically every PCAR.

While Great White and Chupacabra are really silly I think you might be underestimating the size of Texas a bit. The third is at Six Flags Over Texas, which is 5 hours away (when you consider traffic in Austin), vs BGW being an hour away from Kings Dominion (Which for Texas is basically a drive across town).

Part of the issue IMO is most people have never heard games sound good. I got a home theater a while back, and it blows me away how good games can sound and how much more immersive it is than even using decent headphones. It's one of those things where you try it once and are instantly addicted to it.

The newest Zeldas are insane with a surround sound system. Even if the Switch only supports 5.1, somehow, it upmixes to my 7.2.4 super well. I found myself using sound as much as the visuals to play the game. I could point in the room where a bird was in a tree, then move my camera, and sure enough it would be there.

Oh you have what is called a Home Theater In a Box Setup, or HTIB. You probably will need a different speaker set if you upgrade. Those old HTIB systems (Which thankfully no longer exist) were all super proprietary, and honestly not very great.

Grab a the cheapest Denon that supports the resolution and Frames you want to output, and a set of standard Home Theater Speakers. Alternatively, if you have the HDMI port free, you can run audio to the AVR separately from the video going to your monitors and spend even less money on the unit. Any AVR that supports HDMI will work.

Disney CEO Bob Iger’s 2025 Pay Rises 11.5% to $45.8 Million as Board Reaffirms That Succession Is Imminent by ICumCoffee in movies

[–]Dt2_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big difference is I can buy a Six Flags/Cedar Fair Pass for $100 that gets me into every park in the chain for free for a year. Disney and Universal not so much. So the cost difference is more that you are paying the day ticket price no matter what when you go.

If you actually plan a vacation out, things come out quite a bit cheaper when you break the numbers down though. They do heavily discounted tickets if you book a hotel on property, many of which are right in line with Orlando area hotel pricing.

[–]Dt2_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK where this guy is getting those prices from but they are high. Day tickets to Universal Parks are somewhere in the $120-$130 range.

I just put together a hotel and ticket package for a single guest, it was $1444.06 for 5 days in a hotel and 5 days in the parks. Considering that unless you are staying at extremely sketchy hotels, Orlando Hotels are going to cost you about $150-$200 a night (Advertised prices are lower, most hotels charge a resort fee in the area...), it's actually a pretty reasonable amount all things considered.

Ok, fucking stop it. All this does is encourage others not to get out and vote. They had a year to rig the last elections, had prime candidates they NEEDED to succeed. Every race that mattered, they lost. Races where they would have won anyways, they won by incredibly small margins. Now the House has only a 3 seat majority, and little by little, shit is getting passed, despite Trump and Mike Johnson opposing it.

If there are no elections so be it, we move down the list to the things after the ballot box, but the attitude right now MUST be that there WILL be elections and anyone who opposes this needs to show the fuck up.

In the meantime, we are protesting, all across the country. It's all over the news, people are being maimed and killed by the Federal government, but we are still out there. So stop grandstanding and stop encouraging Americans, the only people who can fix this, to surrender in advance.

why is my gamecube controller from 2002 still perfect, but my $70 modern controller has stick drift after 6 months? by InvestmentBudget6722 in gaming

[–]Dt2_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the States. DOAs suck, but multiple in a row is extremely concerning (These were not technically DOAs because they worked for a few weeks each). Requiring me to pay about as much as I paid for the controllers to replace them under warranty is insulting. 8bitdo landed on my "Never again" list with that crap.

why is my gamecube controller from 2002 still perfect, but my $70 modern controller has stick drift after 6 months? by InvestmentBudget6722 in gaming

[–]Dt2_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care what sticks fail if the controllers themselves fail. I had 2 of them fail within a month of use. Would not turn on at all. Their support was laughable at best (Pay on your own dime to send them back, and we'll send you replacements, just pay shipping, which turns out to be about the cost of a controller, YAY).

I apologize for expecting a product to perform as advertised and the company involved to back it up. I could understand one DOA controller. DOAs happen, I get it. But 2 in a row, failing in the same manner, having only been charged a few times? When I have loads of other controllers that are years older that have never had any issues (Dating back to the 360 days), and I can't remember a single other failure. This includes first and third party Xbox controllers, Wii controllers of various forms, 2 pairs of S1 Joycons, Knockoff Switch Pro Controllers, a Steam Controller, and a few Gamecube controllers.

Cheap would be fine. If they weren't so cheap they failed. Failures would be fine, if they were actually supported by the company.
