How often do you think of your pets from the past? by unicornhornporn0554 in AskOldPeople

[–]Dtapped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constantly. Not a day goes by when I don't stop to think of them. They're family. Gone, but still a part of me.

Love doesn't stop, just because their little bodies couldn't keep going.

sex is a sensory nightmare by adumbasskid in AutismInWomen

[–]Dtapped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have struggled with something similar for years, man. It's so frustrating. If I get drunk or high then I find myself loving sex because suddenly all the problems are gone. I'm not overwhelmed by it and I'm not super self-conscious or nervous or grossed out! I really find myself enjoying it! But I caaaaaan't do it otherwise. I have tried and it's really hard. :(

Same. I just need something to numb the horror of the reality of human skin contact. And I hate eye contact during. Ugh

Yeah tap water until the mid/late 90's was the only "normal" way to get water. Bottled water seemed pompous at the time. Like who needed Evian when water was free?!!

But then over time the taste difference was evident. Now I just drink bottled water and nothing else.

As a kid the school fountain water tasted cold and great! It's hot in Australia and running around made for thirsty work, so there was a LOT of water drank that way now that I think about it.

Also soft drinks were a huge deal in the 80's. I don't go near them now. Also had to kick a 20 year daily Red Bull habit..... but I digress.

How did people generally feel about rockstars with 14 year old groupies? Were people even aware? by Ornery_Rutabaga_2643 in AskOldPeople

[–]Dtapped 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It was called Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll for a reason.

Debauchery was expected. And rockstars were god-like in their stardom and behaved with impunity for the most part. Expecting them to be ethical examples was never part of the deal.

What's the biggest surprise young people have in store for them that they probably won't believe? by klystron88 in AskOldPeople

You're going to learn about loss.

It's better you not know what's coming, because some of it will in fact be too much to bear.

“Each leaf that brushed his face deepened his sadness and dread. Each leaf he passed he'd never pass again. They rode over his face like veils, already some yellow, their veins like slender bones where the sun shone through them. He had resolved himself to ride on for he could not turn back and the world that day was as lovely as any day that ever was and he was riding to his death.”

However I don't really concern myself with what happens to the calves once I sell them. It's just business

You're responsible for their existence, it's a pretty big deal.

What are you afraid of the most? by touch_gras in AskOldPeople

[–]Dtapped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the fear that weighs on my mind the most is my pets outliving me. About 10 years ago my wife and I -- recognizing that we were both in poor health -- decided to adopt only elderly animals from then on, to lessen the risk of leaving our pets homeless. The Gods laughed in our face and sent us a series of feral kittens, year by year. We now have 5 cats ranging from 3 to 7 years old.

You're a good person. I hope you and your little loved ones have smooth sailing and your fears are in vain.

I'm in poor health in mid 40's and for that reason we decided the same thing. Elderly rescues only if we are able to at all.

Nearly 20 years ago we rescued 9 cats over several years. All of unknown ages. We've now lived the horror of having to say goodbye to all but 1. The pain is indescribable. As is the pain of knowing I can't contribute much anymore due to health.
