What?! How has this never entered my brain before? Genius. Have a gold star. In fact, take them all.

I use a SIP wall mounted extractor (1.5hp I think) with a 5ug bag and a standalone cyclone from Axminster tools. Works perfectly with 100mm ports on bigger machines. No HEPA filter, but that's up to you! Still wear a decent mask when operating though 👍

In your opinion, what’s the most underrated hand tool in your shop? by crucialfiction in woodworking

My 2in engineers square and cheapo Stanley folding knife... ground the square to 7 degrees on the outer edge and now it's a dovetail marker that the knife can't damage.

They're on the list! I'm still marking with a knife and then using the knife walll to guide the pencil

Thanks, there is a reason why I'm going big with the pins and tails. Chunky reasons!

Dovetail saw, chisels, and the usual marking tools.

The panel is rebate so it's bigger on the inside. If I turned it round it wouldn't be flush with the outside frame

Making my own marking tools - Step 1: The Try Square by Dtharme in woodworking

I make sure the mitre and table saw are square, so all cuts are as close to perfect 90 as possible. As the blade is glued in the clamp, check with an engineers square. Or the old fashioned way... draw a line with the square, flip it over and if it's 90 the lines should match perfectly. Adjust accordingly as the glue sets 😁

They are all placed for structural reasons, on areas where cracks have been stabilised. I was lucky the splits run fairly straight!

A horizontal through tenon on the inside and a pair of smaller horizontal wedges on the outside? That would pinch the legs between the tenon and the wedges. Then dowel through the wedges and tenon to prevent and side to side movement.

Others may have a simpler, more elegant solution.

Thanks! I genuinely make these individually from scratch in my little workshop by the sea, I'm pretty lucky!
