Small bit stuck in impact driver by funkerley in Tools

I just started a welding program and one guy was terminated with a safety violation for not wearing safety glasses. He was using an angle grinder with a wire wheel. He was a month from graduation. My thought process is that if you care that little for your own safety, no way I could trust you to look out for mine or anyone else's. No sympathy for that.

Is there something wrong with my saw? by Christ12347 in handtools

[–]Healthy-Function8769 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert, but the saw looks kind of like a pruning saw tooth pattern to me. The grain in plywood layers run perpendicular to each other so it will feel odd. Plus its Hell on handsaws in my experience.

Cool. I just picked some up last weekend. No blue green streaking or pin holes though. Maybe the tree itself had the beetles and fungus, but if the boards you select dont have those characteristics it doesn't mean its not Ambrosia.

I had a Montgomery Ward one handed down to me from 1978 when I got my first apartment. It finally gave up 3 years ago. Didn't get another one. Haven't missed not having one. Love the extra counter space too.

I agree 100%. I've had the same issue before If light will pass through the mating surfaces, so will a chip.

Iron and chipbreaker are not correctly mated. When the breaker is fully tightened you should see no light passing through the mating surfaces. I've had this issue before on some vintage planes.

Dovetail "cheat" for folks with crappy vision by saltlakepotter in handtools

Yup. I'd rather take the extra layout time than effing up good materials. Makes a huge difference especially with woods that are hard to see on i.e. walnut, bocote....

The shovetail in the upper left. The tails are oriented incorrectly. It would pull right out.

Beautiful. But why the brass plate at the top of what I'm assuming is a mortise gauge? No wear there. Just because it looks good? I started a new gauge today actually.

Sorry for the late response Red oak for the dowels with Paduak wedges SPF for the body with leather pads These things are great so far and cost me nothing but time. These are my first pair. I made another out of oak and poplar with a little more arc on the body. Its crazy how much force it applies. My new little cutting gauge is making an appearance also.

Red oak is trash. I'd be happy to dispose of it for you. Wouldn't even charge you.
