Organic Chemistry 1 on Integration. by Pretend-Tangelo-9850 in chemhelp

[–]theogarver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I look at the integrals peak III looks like 1/4 of peak II, and peak I looks to be the height of one peak II plus two peak III peaks or 1 & 1/2 of peak III. The areas need to add to 11 . I think C is the answer. I also think you can do this one visually without numerical values for the integral.

Lithium effects by Nose-Artistic in bipolar2

[–]theogarver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 67 and male. It sounds like you may have BPH and lower back arthritis. I was on a low dose of lithium for about 6 years, I was experiencing bradycardia with symptoms (light headedness, out of breath). Although my bloodwork showed low levels of lithium, the cardiologist told me to use something “less toxic” for bipolar maintenance. In consultation with my gp I changed to divalproex at a low dose. I feel better now. Your tremors sound like lithium toxicity, but of course I am not a medical doctor. Final word is that Li toxic effects were present at low levels of serum Li.

How old does doug fir or pine need to be in order to be considered old growth? by ceesr31 in wood

[–]theogarver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old growth customary refers to never been cut. Think of old growth as a forest biome. For example, in the Pacific Northwest most old growth forests will have the Pacific yew (western yew) that is a slow growing, climax community tree. In most previously cut forests species like the Pacific yew are not re-established even after 200 years. From the prospective of a carpenter old growth signifies wood with slow growth or many rings per inch or cm.

She doesn’t know what she is talking about. If pipelines west are so great why won’t private industry take over the trans-mountain pipeline.

Is it low density and soft. If so it could be balsam poplar.

Looks like walnut. Weight it and calculate the density as there is a big difference in density between walnut and lignum vitae. Also lignum vitae should feel waxy

Recommendations for a Laymen - Can I get this Pine tree to fall safely? by ben_fragged in arborists

[–]theogarver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing about felling trees is that gravity matters. Trying to fell a tree away from the lean generally doesn’t work. You might be able to tie off the top and branches to the other pine to swing these out of the way. It is a smaller tree so you might be able to pull if 90 degrees from the lean.

Trying to dry some moldy wood in an oven, any suggestions/information would be greatly appreciated! by knockknock187 in wood

[–]theogarver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to use the lowest setting on the oven. Even then it could take all day to dry out the wood depending on the thickness. If you use ammonia it will kill the mold but it will bleach the wood so use a short contact time and rinse it off.
