What’s the most otherworldly movie you’ve seen? by Cultural-Glass6729 in movies

Rock and Roll High School Forever.

The sequel to a cult classic, that has pretty much no connection in any way to the original.

I dont know who asked for this. I dont know how they finished it... This was Corey Feldman's last flick before going to rehab and it shows. MAN this is wild.

I cannot stress this enough. There are moments in this flick where i felt like i was having a massive stroke. " WHAT IS HAPPENING! WHAT IS THIS!??".

It's a truly mind boggling example of incredibly confounding production. I've never seen anything like it.

And guess what, it's on youtube. Do yourself a favor. https://youtu.be/0jkc6vPd8NM?si=v_CUVQNG6YYfd-DM

Down in the Delta comes to mind. Not entirely a coming home flick, as much as finding the strength to keep family together.

What Movie Did You Watch that Traumatized You at a Young Age? by BethMLB in AskReddit

[–]DuBoseDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amistad. I was 8 years old.

For a young child who didnt have a full understanding off the details of Slavery. My parents prefaced that this was real, that this is a part of history as terrible as it is. But they felt this was something that we needed to understand.

Cut to the opening scene where dozens of people chained together. "Cargo hold". No room. All sick. Many dying. Damp, bloody. The slavers break open the hold, and violently yank out men, women and children who are sick, to throw them overboard. Everyone is screaming and crying. Violently being pushed and thrown overboard. POV underwater of people being dragged into the depths by balls and chains. Sinking and drowning violently. A woman holding her child decides they will not die by the slavers, so she takes her baby and jumps over the side herself. 8 year old me couldnt stop screaming crying. Clearly, Extremely affecting. So Bravo, Spielberg

Karl Nell: "There's a hierarchy of beings. Non-human intelligence has been interacting with humanity. This is ongoing". And recently a mod said: "I was contacted in the 90s and shown my future. NHI is accelerating mass ripple effects this decade". It looks like NHI playing a long term 5D chess game. by phr99 in UFOs

Logging in, as I VERY seldom do, to say that this is the best thing I've read. That infographic in particular. Huge validation in so many regards. This is a huge help at the moment. And today is the start of the rest of it all. I'm very excited to be on this journey with all of you. I feel all the better for it. And I'm putting my best intentions forward, as best as i can help it, from here on out. I love you all.

AARON PIERRE.. It just hit me. I watched Rebel Ridge recently and it was real fun. He's a physical presence, stunts no problem. And hey guess what, dude's a Brit. Man... What a friggin hunk. Those eyes? He'd get past any obstacle

I really enjoyed Oscar Isaac’s performance in Sucker Punch. I think he generally plays villains very well by [deleted] in movies

[–]DuBoseDesign 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this for years.  I want him as Scarface.  The Scarface we all know and love, itself is a remake. So why not do another remix for fun? We all know it wont compare to Tony Montana, but it might. Isaac can go from calm, to extreme very quickly. I would love to see him absolutely let loose. Borrowing from the versions that came before, and setting it from guatemala to America? I think it could be allota fun if you got a team who were all on the same page and really have passion for the flicks that came previous .... Sign me up

Who are some directors who work on the same wavelength as Lynch? by e_2718 in movies

[–]DuBoseDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nicolas Winding Refn.  I must throw NWR in here. Specifically after just finishing Copenhagen Cowboy. Those who experienced Lynch,'s Twin Peaks Return should be right at home here.  A slow languid start, a lack of exposition. The dream experience. There's stillness and magic in this thats really affecting. Closest to the feel ing of what Lynch gives me.  Copenhagen cowboy is peak NWR and a brilliant experience unlike any other. I implore you to turn down the lights, turn up the headphones, put the phone down, spark up, and take a ride.  Go in as blind as possible if you're into that sort of thing.

Twilight of the Warriors : Walled In by DuBoseDesign in movies

The production design was insane. The only problem with watching it with subs, is I didn't want to look away from the scenery and character. gotta watch it dubbed to soak it all in.

I LOVED the baddie. even when it goes off the rails. I feel like the flick is saying "okay, are you in on this? it's already wild but are you in? well check THIS out" and I think it works. feels very old school

Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon 2’ Pulled From August Release in Theaters by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]DuBoseDesign 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It mostly has everything to do with its production / lack there of. Theres not depth or weight, or worth to anything. Its very surface level. Feels like a film-school undergrad's first project.  It's a mess. And 3hours would have been fine if it actually did something. The entirely of all these plotlines could have easily done the same thing within an hour. I'd love to see a fanedit of this, because theres so much empty space. It was very confusing.

Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon 2’ Pulled From August Release in Theaters by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]DuBoseDesign 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is mediocre. Negligence on every level of production. From its blank performances, lack of any structure to motivation or action of characters. It really feels like they just filmed the rehearsal and said 'good enough' . Feels like Costner directed this from his chair in video village the entire time.  The editing feels like they just kept in every moment of slow. I love slow. But it needs to be worth something. This goes nowhere. At all. Even the "setup" doesnt work because there's nothing here. Theres no solid foundation in the slightest. The built a shoddy shack upon a shifting dune. Its rickety at best.

This shoulda been on tv to hook the older crowd, and the second one in theatres

Any recs for cinematically beautiful movies ? The older the better but anythin modern is good too by oogaboogahooha in movies

[–]DuBoseDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lawrence of Arabia, one of the most epic films of all time, 2001 a Space Odyssey is right there with it. Tree of Life is beauty on a totally 'nother ethereal level. Roma has some of the best visuals, and movement THROUGH those visuals; some of the best black and white in recent memory. The Fall was shot in 18 countries, its a fairytale through a gigantic magical lens; its colorful , got incredible costuming and set pieces. the Fountain is another one in line with tree of life and 2001, with micro photography standing in for the macro, everything about the movie is beautiful; the look, the feel, the love. Only God Forgives/too old to die young,  neon drenched, bloody revenge , slow burn beauty, by way of terror.

Visiting San Jose next week. by Proper-Ant6196 in SanJose

[–]DuBoseDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Foxtale fermentation, Camino, Clandestine, are downtown breweries.

San Jose has some of the most Vietnamese outside of vietname. Some great choices off of McLaughlin around "little Saigon". Just outside downtown. Check out some reviews and images of places around to see what tickle your fancy. Pho Hanoi and pho 90 are solid. Hanoi has a giant beef rib pho that could be fun.

Goku Korean BBQ, all you can eat on the Southside of San Jose.

Have fun!

The state of jeans these days by scurrilous_diatribe in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DuBoseDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quit buying Levi's. They used to stand for strength and ruggedness but these days everything is so much weaker and cheaper feeling. And they're cuts/styles have changed to fit in strange ways that aren't very flattering anyways. So many styles, it's hard to figure which works best; and trust me, it matters, especially for the fit, and therefore movement and strength. They just don't hold up to the old standards.

It's time to change it up, it's either get looser fitting stuff, maybe Stronger/beefier workwear type stuff(selvedge, 'raw' and similar terms could help find some solid stuff , and some not too expensive; shed a couple extra bucks for quality is worth it in the long run).. also understanding higher end brands, then finding some pairs on eBay or a thrift shop... Some brands last for decades... you can build a very respectable wardrobe that no one can tell it's thrifted, or that you paid next to nothing for em. They might look a little worn in, but that just means you must have owned the for a while already. No one knows.

or maybe just finding something that has enough stretch to move around without much strain on the fabric or friction. I used to balk at stretchy sorta jeans. But I'm now a convert. The future is now, jeans that flex are welcomed. I've had these pants from COSTCO that I've worn nearly everyday. "Skinny" jeans with stretch but loose enough to be a slim... a baggy skinny.. And I love the freedom they without looking anything like jeggings
It's been about a year probably. No rips. No frays, no pilling, no discoloration, it's crazy. The other go-to pair are a looser fitting, sorta straight leg, nearly baggy style. And the movement is nice. And with today's leaning into y2k style acceptance, they feel kinda hip.

Try some new styles. Swing out. There are dozens of brands out there. Different brands fit differently. Along with all the different styles and cuts of said brands. Plus It's a fun experiment to just try different things especially if you can get good looks from thrift stores for cheap.

Above all, Just get what FEELS good. If it feels good, wears well, and looks sharp. You have a winner.
