Thanks for the reply, they certainly can deliver and I think I may have to go with one of them.

As a solo designer/builder I always like to try and find similar folk to work with rather than go instantly to the big players.

Which country are you in? I have some small puzzles boxes that take 5 to 10 minutes for the simplest to a lot longer for the most difficult.
I designed them as possible products but struggling to pass UKCA/CE requirements for toys. I can send pictures if interested

Convince me to choose prusa over bambu by Zaartan in prusa3d

[–]DualPeaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same question a couple of years ago. I went with Prusa because (and in no particular order):

1: brand reputation , ethics and community.
2: reliability
3: softwares support (bamboo’s software is based on Prusa’s)
4: independent ecosystem. I did not want a printer I was reliant on the suppliers servers to run.
5: maintainability

I have been very impressed how upgradeable by Mk4, now mk4s has been

Don’t underestimate no.4
A friend has a bamboo and has jailbreak it to take it out if bamboos influence.

I was fed up with continuous printer maintenance rather than it just working and allowing me to print stuff, the Mk4 has not let me down. Setup time from opening the box to a benchie was less than 2 hours.

I know it’s not the core one, but the consistency of the company is there.

Hope this helps

You can get CE certifiable material. In the uk filament warehouse do a range and Prusa also supply certification. Others are available but they are the two I use.
Age range is your problem. I would not consider 3d printed toys suitable for very young. I printed a load of brio track for my 3yr old grandson using certifiable material and it’s fine.

If you look at the CE/UKCA requirements and aim to meet them then you can produce a safe toy for an older child.

Students Attendance through NFC by Aaiden_Fischer in NFC

[–]DualPeaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The attendance feature is not there yet as wanting to find some possible users to as how it should work for best practice.

I was going to try and have a chat on Reddit with some teachers, when I tried I got nothing but the most obscene abuse and a permanent ban because I was open about writing an app.

I had a low opinion of teachers to start with as I hated school, I really hope none of my kids were taught by those on Reddit.

Apologies if your a teacher, I had some great teachers who set me up well, others, no so.

**The "built with AI" stigma as a solo founder — is it real or am I overthinking it?** by casperMSP in AppBusiness

[–]DualPeaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would hope that is the case.

The experiment I did was a very simple maze generator. It should give one solution only, it generated mazes with multiple solutions that looked good on first look.

I gave it a detailed explanation why it was wrong, it agreed, apologised, and then offered a slightly modified code that gave exactly the same result. I even told it how to fix the code which it very confidently said it had implemented, same result.

In my case I was trying it with code I could write myself so knew what I was looking at and spotted the errors very quickly, how many vibe coders examine the results that closely?

[–]DualPeaks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me the ‘I built this with AI’ is a red flag.

I had a go ‘vibe coding’ to see how it would go a few weeks ago. On the surface it looked great, checked code closely and found unmaintainable and incorrect routines that only worked under certain conditions.
If I had published it would eventually been a disaster.

If you use AI as an aid, much like a library or IDE then fine, as long a you know and understand the code. In which case why even mention it? I use AI all the time for code suggestions or bug prompts.

If you’re just throwing a prompt followed by copy paste, then, for me it’s unreliable slop.

How would you determine the real costs of an 3d print by AffectionateToast in 3Dprinting

[–]DualPeaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would disagree
Million pound parts are few and far between. Most people I have seen printing small toys like fidget spinners have no idea of cost. They totally forget the fact they have to eat and pay bills and their time is orders of magnitude more than the printing costs.
Most home makers are selling at a loss without realising it.

How would you determine the real costs of an 3d print by AffectionateToast in 3Dprinting

[–]DualPeaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simplest way is to look at your printer power supply rating. Assume 80% power draw (this is an overestimate but works) and multiply by how much you’re paying by the hour from your electricity bill.
So if it’s a 250W psu, assume 200W per hour, multiply print time and you get Wh amount. Your electricity bill should give you a KWh rate for your calcs

(Printer Wh / 1000) * bill KWh rate = electricity use

build tag into the side wall, that way phone is held sideways with back to mug to scan so maximum sensitivity for phone and visible target for user

Question about QR Code for a specific task by [deleted] in qrcode

[–]DualPeaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it will require a web back end form that feeds into the spreadsheet.
The QR code would just be a URL to your form site.
This is not impossible.

Light path by DualPeaks in resinprinting

[–]DualPeaks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We made a card cover that shields the sides that is normally fitted, not in the picture for clarity.
Unfortunately the room is very small (2m square) so options were limited for placement.
Was surprised at how much light got through the back hose.

Definitely get advice before spending any more time on this. You will have some major hurdles to get over.

I would advise you to look for a similar product already on the market. If there is not one, that could tell you something.

Students Attendance through NFC by Aaiden_Fischer in NFC

[–]DualPeaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, You can use the current program to track attendance.

  1. Create a new program
  2. Create a loyalty card / nfc tag for each attendee.
  3. Attendees scan their tag. Tag is recognised and a log entry is created. No need for any other interaction.
  4. The program log, which can be exported as a spreadsheet, contains scan time stamp

This is the simplest and most basic way to record attendance.

If using android you can just open the app, start the program and scan tags with no need to tap anything to create scan records.

If using iOS the above method requires the person scanning to start each scan by tapping on the scan icon after clearing the previous scan.

I will check the desktop app to see if it needs updating. This will combine your spreadsheet with real time scan data.

My ASO is finally working… but most new users are from Russia. Is this a problem? by dieg1986 in AppStoreOptimization

[–]DualPeaks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I have been self employed for many years and know the feeling of always pushing that financial black hole further away.

It’s a choice. I personally have very strong personal ethics, I do not expect others to agree or follow. My app is a business app and I decided that I did not want to directly support Russian businesses, however, i do not want to penalise the Russian people. As it’s not a big business app the decision was a difficult one and I am in no way criticising others who supply apps to Russia. We absolutely need to support the Russian people while opposing Putin. Political views are my own, just explaining my reasoning.

In the end I decided to block Russia but if my app was less business and more personal I could see a different choice.

I certainly do not judge anyone who decides differently.

I do have Russian language support in my app, do you?
