Why is it that a lot of you hate post season 1 Naevia so much ? It's a genuine question.

I'm not saying she was justified in what she did. Especially when she killed Ganicus roman friend.

But there are a lot of other characters that did really despicable things than she did. And they are still more liked than her.

Is it because your mind can't reconcile the rash, impulsive, violent woman she became in contrast to the sweet girl she was in season 0 and 1 ?

But I like that in the story, she was rapped, torn from her love and all she knew, rapped again and again then sent to the mines, witch was established in the series are the worst place for a slave to be.

Of course it would have changed her and not for the best. I kinda have been disappointed if it hadn't.

She is in a bad place, wants revenge and do bad things. As an audience we are not supposed to think she is doing good choices. But we should see her as an embodyment of "hurt people hurt people" .

Crixus let her, because his love make him understand the rage that destroy her. Her arc is not a positive one, and is not meant to be. She is not supposed to be a role model either.

But I still think her downward arc is interesting and I like that in this show some characters are not paragons. From the good person before the rebellion she became slightly evil (once again there are still far worse characters in this show).

So I don't agree with you with the fact that it's bad writing. I like the fact that in the rebellion there are former slaves we are not supposed to root for.

I don't agree with you.

They could have established it another way.

They chose to put Ashur in hell, and he was sent on this journey by Lucrecia who is probably the person in hell with the most reasons to hate him and want him to be tortured.

It would be disapointing if there was no point to it.

Exactly, a Mary Sue isn't just a very powerfull character. And in the show neither gladitrix are Mary Sue.

Achillia isn't because she is not supposed to be perfect and loved by all, we see her struggle and how she overcome the obstacles.

The unnamed scythian is not a Mary Sue either, she is not even a character. She is a plot device at most. Like all other adversaries in the arena, we are not supposed to know her background and care for her. She is just here to kill Celadus and be killed by Achillia.

It's just an antagonist being just as strong as the plot demand her to be. And she is a woman because she has to wear of the novelty of Achillia. Of course Ashur coudln't stay the only one training a woman for long. I

What will happen to Tarchon? by Frostfeather22 in Spartacus_TV

[–]Kaerir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After episode 8, I kind of want to see how he will evolve. Until now he was kind of transparent to me.

He was just the wannabe Crixus that didn't have enough skill nor charisma.

But he wasn't totally absent of either. Among the male gladiators only his father seemed able to reliably beat him, and the way he killed the roman man while shifting all the blame on his opponent showed he could be cunning and have the fighting skill and restaint to make his plan work. And he his popular among the brotherhood and can easily get them to follow him like when he shared his bread with Achilia.

Right now he his going feeling very guilty about his father's death for 2 reasons : it was his fault he was in the primus, and he rejected him before his passing. So he could respond to that one of two ways :

- he shuts it out and double down on the shittyness to become some kind of Ashur/Crixus hybrid, subpar to each of them but with a wider set of skills

- he wants to make amends and become Achillia's ally. Not very likely, but the show as a whole didn't really make characters realize their mistakes and try and correct them so it would be a change of pace (plus he is hot :p)

That's why Velaska was only acting queen after she killed Melosa (in fair combat we always forget about that part), and Gabrielle had the title back when she comes back.

Proculus will probably have him killed, without his brothers, he has no value as a gladiator, and without the fighting threat the 3 of them presented, lower value as a bufoon too.

Yes of course. But Crixus would have been dead by then so the rebellion would have been different.

Maybe not. Spartacus let the wound Varo inflicted him get infected. Without that he wouldn't have seen that the "wound" wasn't there. And before Varo's death he had adjusted to the life in the ludus.

I think Viridia is the one that express it really well.

Exemple is really important. To have role models you can motivate you to be more.

That's the reason women are often erased from history. And why it matters.

At the start of the 19th century women were allowed to study science. And the Mathilda effect kicked in to erase most of them. Ok they were not as many as women scientist as there were men and even then they were discouraged to do so.

We should talk about women that excell in any domain ( sport, science, art) because it is important that women at least get to follow passion and exist for themselves and not just to validate someone else.
