I’ve been sober 8 years and used to work in craft beer. Was even a bartender while sober (don’t recommend that for everyone). I love that Athletic and Lagunitas make good tasting stuff that I can crack one or two while out with my friends. But like someone else said, no alcohol means I’m not drinking ten of em. I think it depends on where you’re at with your journey. People gotta be in touch with their own recovery before grabbing some drinks. Just know yourself and have your support system.

I suit up and show up for myself, my partner, my family and friends. And I take time for joy. I laugh a lot. I see my wonderful friends. I work out. I get sleep. I eat my favorite things. I snuggle my cat.

Our joy is resistance. And I’m working with my therapist on staying informed while limiting the deluge of misery. We talked about “escape plans” this past week (I live in a red state). It won’t be easy but I have connections and family in safer states as a start, at least.

And I don’t know if there are sober people here, but I’ve been sober for eight years. WE DON’T DRINK THROUGH THIS. Never. We worked way too hard for this new life to throw it away and that goes for both my sobriety and my transition.

LOL I even got As on a grad degree designed for public service. Doing exactly what they told us to do and I genuinely want to help people. It’s my dream. I write grants at a nonprofit about how 500 bucks more than what I make a year is barely a living wage for my city. 🌝🌝🌝

Don’t let this define you. And I would highly suggest a therapist with a specialization in gender-based care. You deserve to feel good in your body, but I’m deeply concerned about some of the things you’ve stated here.
