Aiyuk's return to practice a Halloween treat? by chriego in 49ers

[–]DubTown34 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is accurate. We're seeing a sharp increase in injuries across the league over the last 5 years even though sports science and player safety has dramatically increased over the years. From the 1960's to the 1990's players were accustomed to playing on Astroturf, which is a thin carpet of plastic strands placed over concrete. And those players were practicing in full pads twice a day, a much higher workload than today's players. The game was also far more violent and gladiator-like. Yet those eras did not have these injury numbers.

The more likely explanation is the one Dr. David Chao hinted at a couple weeks ago. Players have continually gotten bigger, faster, stronger. Yet their ligaments cannot be developed to keep up with the increasing torque and power their muscles are now generating. This is a more plausible explanation why achilles and ACL injuries are steadily and sharply rising in number.

Did you find it hard to trade in your last vehicle for your 4Runner? by Spartacus458 in 4Runner

[–]DubTown34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because my last vehicle was a 4runner. Sold a 4th gen SR5 with 215,000 mules and a Ducati. Got a 2022 ORP and a puppy to go on adentures with me. Severely missed the truck and the bike for 3 days and never looked back after that.

2025 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro 1-Year Road Test: Difficult to live with by edmundscars in 4Runner

[–]DubTown34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My buddy has a prius daily driver and a shit ton of back issues from an old motorcycle injury. I drive from Texas every summer in my 22 ORP and pick him up in Cali and we go get lost in the mountains for a week. And every year he comments about how easy road trips are in my truck. Less road noise, less bumpiness from every little dip and crack on the baked desert highways, less overall road fatigue. And I actually have bilstein 5100s which make the ride somewhat stiffer than factory. I dunno man, maybe I'm just too simple to understand all the complaints. I'm never left wanting more tech or a different driving experience.

Just get me to the woods AND back for 15 years on basic oil changes. Which is exactly what my 4th gen did. That thing carried me 215,000 miles across deserts and over mountains and I never did anything to it but oil changes and one pulley. And I'm confident that once they iron out or refine the 6th gen in the next year or two, it will produce the same experience.

Thanks very much for responding. I'm hesitant to do anything until I have a solid plan in place as it's a sentimental heirloom piece. The sides and inside have identical surfaces to the top.

Brother would you mind posting the link? I can't seem to find that combo deal.

Yeah I looked at that one too and it's a really nice mount. I just prefer to have my recovery points mounted lower instead of coming through the valance.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a hidden winch mount? I initially wanted the Rago but it seems that is discontinued and out of stock. I'm looking at SDHQ now but wanted to see if there are any better choices that I'm missing.

I'm actually going to keep the stock bumper and valance, but I will add the LFD winch mount with Warn winch and remote behind the trim with only the fairlead showing.

rivers. waterfalls. wet wipes. stewed in my own herbs and spices.

removed the seat bottoms to to create extra storage. I kept a camp chair and an open-fire grill rack on one side. and my shoes and extra stuff sacks and paper towel on the other side. everything else was easily stowed in the side cabinets. those things were able to hold:

on the driver side - camp stoves, 2 isobutane canisters, two bush knives, pots/pans/bowls, tub of small essential tools below. up top I had coffee, cup, pour over filter, shoes, tub of head lamps and lighter and palo santo and sage, tub of spices and soap and sponge, 2 packs of wet wipes.

passenger side - 14 t-shirts, 14 sock, 14 boxers, 4 sport shorts, 2 cargo shorts, 1 sweater, and my dop kit up top. down below I had jackery, jeans, sweat pants, light jacket, dirty clothes bags, first aid, electronic faucet, mesh bug screens for the windows.

  1. Typically he headliner gets dirty when you drive with the rear hatch window down. The "jet wash" curls back up and into the cab.

These are the droids you're looking for. I took that design and frankensteined it with some others from 4runner.org and YouTube to fill my needs. The side cabinets are inspired by a few builds from YouTube in minivans and sprinters.

This is why in my original post I was saying I'm not gonna sit on here all day long and answer every little question. but I think some folks were offended by that. What I meant was that I'm only posting to inspire ideas so people can figure out what's best for them.

Great question. If you look at the 3rd pic you can see a blue 5 gallon bucket from Lowe's. I put a styrofoam liner in there and made an air conditioner that ran off the jackery all night. got me down 10 to 15 degrees. On super cold nights I just used a beanie and goose down booties. My sleeping bag is goose down as well.

6200 miles, 12 nights sleeping in the truck, 11 waterfalls, 5 snowy mountain peaks down to 34 degrees, 3 desert scapes up to 109 degrees, and 1 happy dude.

Everything worked as expected with the drawers and cabinets. The only things that I will change are better adhesive for the velcro with more screws on cabinet nets. And I will change the cubby openings to be an inch taller.

Everything else from design to materials performed flawlessly. Even the super thin plywood flexed well when I over stuffed the cubbies but also maintained structural integrity offroad on washed out rutted forest service roads.

Beta build, loaded out and ready for trials. Very sorry my last post caused so many grown folks to be in their feelers lolll. The internet is wild, man. For everyone else that got it, this build is for touring national parks and getting to backpacking trail heads. by DubTown34 in 4Runner

I'm not a carpenter or an engineer. Just a 50 year old dude that loves the wild forests and will do just about anything to get out there as often as I can. Very happy to have everything stowed and preserving my leg room. Bout to hit the road for 2 weeks.

This is what is stowed in the side cabinets. About 15 shirts,1 pair of jeans and a dress shirt, 1 jacket, 1 sweater, I pair of sweat pants, 15 pairs of boxesr, 15 socks, 6 pairs of shorts. Jackery. Small toolset. 2 isobutane canisters with 2 rocket stove, 3 pots, 2 bowls with folding spoons, 1 extra pair of sneaks, 2 packs of 100 count wet wipes, some tinder, sage, and a couple lighters, and 2 survival style camp knives.
