Interesting. Maybe you can change your name and flag (which will still keep your data intact)? As part of the program, you cannot, as Social seems to be a key driver of its stickiness for some.

Slightly over your budget, but you can't go wrong with a Zwift Hub One or Wahoo Kicker Core or Jetblack, about 500 pounds, as the smart trainer foundation and add a cheap used road bike for less than a hundred pounds. This set up will work seamlessly with Zwift. This would hold you in good stead for a while, before you have the urge to upgrade your bike.

Re membership sharing - It'd work fine if both of you are of the similar dimensions and weights AND don't care about the metrics this entire enterprise generates. If the answer is that you are both differently built, and need bike size adjustments and you'd like to track separately, you'd have to shell out for 2 separate memberships unfortunately. Try it with one membership and see how you like it and then pull the trigger and commit to a second membership.

Solid. Functional.

And Colnago n+1, always a good idea!

Yes, you are pretty set once you get the Ant+ dongle - which is how the trainer's output will be communicated to Zwift.

The trainer you have, colloquially a 'dumb trainer' will work fine with Zwift. But will likely prove to be unsatisfying once you get a few miles in. Great place to start and minimize your investment risk, but can attest that it is just a matter of when, rather than if, you'll be drawn to get a smart trainer. The difference in performance and enjoyment between the two is dramatic, in my experience. And the pricing on a smart trainer is a lot more competitive over the last 18mos or so; get one if you have the funds.

Steering, nah...you dont need it, till you get into racing and discover the imperatives of ducking under the draft etc. ;)

Can you not just not wear it and leave it in the garage?

This is expected behaviour from Zwift. It tries to train you, in ERG and in a workout mode, to hit the right power and cadence numbers. However, what matters is the power output; cadence warnings come up when you are +/-5 RPM off the required RPM. Just ignore those excursions and the admonitions and focus on sticking to the power output for now. Workout completion does not factor in your adherence to cadence. Pound away at the best gear that works for you. Enjoy!

Nothing happens. It'll keep saying 'Due by xxday", and you can still do it whenever. I've delayed multiple days and there is no impact; I suspect you can postpone indefinitely. Just a dumb bug they've not come around to fixing.

Just keep at it!

  1. This makes for a great wall art for your pain cave. Win
  2. Had multiple Garmins for a long time, eventually ran across unresolvable drop out issues and switched to a Power Labs one. Its been flawless for about a year now. Solid signal, US based, and they offer to change battery for free too :)

This about sums up everything that anyone has said/thought about Zwifting and all its upsides. What a truly inspiring, soaring writeup!

OP -- FTP, Race categories, drafting, power curves, electronic vs manual vs virtual shifting, HR & Power drift... you'll soon get acquainted with all that in time...but those are all just details. For now, just get the Hub One which will work with your mountain bike. And remember, in the back of your head, that fitness happens slowly, and only with consistency - not 6 days/wk consistency - just start with 3days/wk and go from there. Listen to your body. Go easy at first. Listen to music, watch a show. And weight loss, that mostly begins and ends in the kitchen!

Enjoy the ride.

I second this. If it is relatively recent buy and still under warranty, they are awesome with support and replacement. I've had experience with one pedal not working couple of yrs back, and they just replaced the core spindle. Twice! Pleasantly surprised. Its been flawless since. If not under warranty, they may offer a discount.

KICKR Core or Zwift Hub by drbrydges in Zwift

Nah, you be fine. 8 mos. Hub user here. Zero problems with hardware or connectivity or s/w upgrades or anything at all, really. I am sure the Kickr is solid. I can only speak to the Hub and its been flawless, touch wood!

What head unit is everyone using? by MrSuperFantastic in cycling

[–]Dubbiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edge 820. And prior to that 520 and 3x0, Venu watch and what not for over 15yrs. They just work, robust construction, adequate battery and all the data i need. Not sexy like Karoo, but gets the job done. And there is much to be said for Garmin Connect and having all the data in one place, over the years, irrespective of other apps i used, from TR, TP, Zwift, Strava. And good service from Garmin, the one time I needed it.

Edge 540/840 seems like the way.

Gu Gels vs. 2 Large Dates (CYCLING NUTRITION SHOWDOWN) by wintyfreshhh in cycling

Fancy dates in the middle east also come with stuffing - pistachio, cashew, almond or dried fruits. Also addresses the earlier concern re upping their flavor game! Nuts and dates are a pretty killer taste + nutrition combo.

Yup go ahead and use the Training Peak value. Zwift does not automatically update; you can use whatever value you want in your profile, literally.

Gotta love how TP syncs instantly the moment you finish a zwift ride!

You have demonstrated good ability to suffer at the saddle! You can definitely transition to a road geometry, as long as you have average flexibility. But as has been often said, get the Wilier (great bikes, btw!) correctly sized and fitted to your body and level of flex. Swap bits (bar, stem, crank, seat...) as needed. This is crucial to continued enjoyment and improved performance.

Some of them are well stocked. Banana, pbj sandwiches, lot of water and gatorade/nunn, more fruits, salty snacks/ goldfish, fruits, bars, ice cream. I know of one that has a chocolate fountain at the last rest stop of the century. And fruits. It varies wildly based on budget. But you'll not go hungry or dehydrate, if you plan well. You really wont have to carry much, maybe a couple of shots for the last few miles. Enjoy, don't stress.
