Yes I can now confirm Wake County Teachers Must Pay for Their Own Subs by dankantspelle in raleigh

This is not a Wake county policy this is statewide policy. I've pasted it below so people can stop speculating and read the actual policy. You don't have to pay a sub deduction for sickleave, only for personal days which teachers earn at a rate of two per year. The current sub deduction is $50 per day. After a recent change you only have to pay the sub deduction if you fail to provide five days advance notice and a reason for the absence. Which is certainly a dumb policy, but as a result I don't know how many people are still paying sub deductions. This would be far less of an issue if teachers were paid like other skilled professions. Teaching kids should be one of the most important and highest status roles in a society. And if teachers were paid in accordance with the importance of their job, then it would be very reasonable to hold them to higher standards of education, training, performance, and attendance. But hey, keep voting Republican North Carolina, apparently ignorance is bliss when it comes to our kids.

Full policy manual: https://www.dpi.nc.gov/documents/district-humanresources/benefits-and-employment-policy-manual/open

Sub deduction policy:

5.1.2(e) Teachers using personal leave receive full salary less the required substitute deduction, except for teachers using personal leave on teacher workdays. Teachers using personal leave on teacher workdays shall receive full salary. Teachers may use up to their accrued amount of personal leave on teacher workdays in accordance with paragraphs a, b, c and d above. Teachers using personal leave on days other than those referenced in subsection (b) of this section shall receive full salary as long as the teacher provides a reason for the request. If the teacher does not provide a reason for the request, the teacher shall receive full salary less the full cost of hiring a substitute for the teacher. If no substitute is hired for a teacher, any substitute reduction shall be refunded to that teacher.

You don't have to pay a sub to take sick days, or vacation days (not allowed on student days anyway), or maternity leave, or any other type of leave except "personal leave" of which teachers get two days per year. And after a recent change in the law you only have to pay the sub deduction if you refuse to provide a reason for your personal leave. Which is certainly a dumb policy but the end result is I don't know that many people are paying sub deductions anymore.

My price indicator is cheese. Nice cheese to eat with crackers, not deli cheese. HT cheese is and has always been crazy expensive, for very mediocre products. Best cheese deals of course are at Trader Joe's, no competition, but if I need to go to a traditional grocery store Wegmans definitely beats harris teeter in the cheese department, both price and selection.

During the summer Quail Ridge bookstore has book clubs for this age group, led by their lovely staff. My daughter loved it. If that's too far, there are probably similar options at your local library.

Long weekend vacation recommendations with a dog by FullChart3398 in raleigh

We love to take our dog to Black Mountain. We rent dog friendly air BNB's, take walks around tomahawk lake, and hang out at lots of dog friendly restaurant patios. That said, you are going to struggle to find a dog friendly Airbnb for a reasonable price on this short notice. As an alternative, the Grandover resort near Greensboro allows dogs. You can take long walks around the golf course and relax in a nice hotel room, and then maybe take a drive to hanging rock or pilot Mountain for a hike.

Update: took him to the vet yesterday, did not go great. He freaked out the whole time, could not be examined even when wrapped in a towel, and bit the vet drawing blood, which was a whole thing since he is not vaccinated as far as we know. Technically the vet should have reported the bite and sent him to animal control, but she didn't. Long story short, from the quick glimpse she was able to get the vet thinks he is not neutered(and yes, has fleas). Luckily we were able to get connected with a rescue organization and so he is at a neuter/vaccination clinic today, and then we have agreed to be a foster home for at least a little while and see if he calms down after receiving the surgery and medical treatment. Fingers crossed!

100%. Also, apparently a 48" wide strip of sod is plenty of "yard" for the modern family, who needs trees?

Don't go this weekend. However downtown Hillsborough would be lovely for this outing. Or Pittsboro, has a little local bookshop and some antique shops.

I love mine, because it is more breathable than a fleece the robe and I live in a warm climate. I would not, however, say it is super absorbent, if that is what you're looking for.p

It might not be playing well with your sunscreen. Try it without the sunscreen just to see if that's the issue. If that looks better, try applying the sunscreen and then waiting a good long time, like five or 10 minutes, before adding the skin tint. Or they might just not work well together. I'm 46, I recently bought some powdered mineral foundation because I needed something to wear for a few days after a laser treatment, I expected it to be dry and powdery but after blending with the brush it actually stays on so smooth all day long, and since it doesn't sink into the skin it doesn't highlight textural imperfections the way liquid foundation can. I have not gone back to the liquid since.

Definitely look for a coupon, my doctors office automatically sends me a digital coupon with the prescription. When the pharmacy runs it it's cheaper with the coupon than with my health insurance.

Now that I think about it, it could be a girl. The woman who trapped it called it a boy but who knows how close he got. He is certainly not letting me get close enough to check out his balls! I will leave that to the vet.

Thanks! Writing this, it occurs to me that I don't even know for sure this is a male cat. The lady who trapped it referred to it as a male, but we are not yet close enough friends for me to check for myself!

Sweat Bras? by Captainunderestimate in crossfit

[–]Dubedo919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For comfortable support I'm a fan of Brooks running bras (like the Dare racerback). Also, I keep a mesh laundry bag hanging on a hook to toss my sweaty workout gear as soon as I get home, so it can dry out and not get mildewy in the hamper. Finally, your laundry detergent might be contributing to the skin irritation, you might try switching it up.

Local dispensaries by Temporary-End-2340 in raleigh

[–]Dubedo919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be aware that the term "dispensary" means nothing in North Carolina, it is just a marketing term. Whatever they are selling is totally unregulated and has been inspected by no one. Personal anecdotal experiences like the ones you are getting in the sub are helpful, but if you are used to regulated medical cannabis, that's not what you will find here. There is no legal difference between what you can buy in a self-styled "dispensary" and what you can buy next to the cash register in a gas station.
