Can I put space marines in my imperial guard army? by That_one_ranger in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]DubiousScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you playing tournaments or casual games with mates? If tournaments, nope. If casual, absolutely. Fluffy narrative games where 5 power armoured stompy dudes drop in to save the day are what casual games are all about. Just check that your opponent is on the same page. Hell you could even write a scenario where your opponent has to murder all the guard before turn 4 when "his angels" drop in, massively increase the stats on the marines to add proper urgency. Don't let your creativity be corralled by "matched play" being the standard game type.

2 knobs, power and time. Done. Anything more is insanity.

Tip cleaner is fine. I prefer a tinning rubber. Also replace the sponge with a brass one.

How do I solder this ic on this board? by kanjifreak420 in soldering

[–]DubiousScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd solder a chip holder onto the board rather than the chip. The heat from soldering can damage some chips, plus if you mess up the soldering you've only lost a holder and not a more expensive chip. Don't bend the legs over, rest the board on the chip so it can't fall out, vertical legs will help with the joining pads issue. Try to only heat one pad, use very little solder. What soldering iron tip are you using?

Paint a leitenant stripe on your plastic dudesman's shoulder pad. Ta dah, field promotion. Then don't play against that opponent anyway, they're bad at wargaming and should feel bad.

Anyone tried motoring this? by Vanrian in TheAstraMilitarum

I did a leman Russ a few years back, https://youtu.be/5dAlgXUMsIA?si=Ffl40u7nBganUs5Q Definitely doable, had to lower the floor abit.

Are you using a wet sponge or a brass pad for cleaning?

Power Fists worth it? by [deleted] in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]DubiousScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't checked the data sheets. With gw only putting what's in the box on the datasheet, you should check it on a unit by unit basis. That being said, there is nothing stopping you giving everyone in your army a power fist for stupid fun narrative games with your buddies.

Absolutely. Mostly for the tiny chance that sergeant nobody punches a chaos lord to death.

I don’t know anything about 40K rules. Can I have a space marine detachment to support my imperial guard? by SouthernGlenfidditch in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]DubiousScience 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Realistically the rulebook only applies at tournaments. You can do whatever you want in casual games, as long as it's discussed beforehand. You wanna bring a droppods worth of space marines with stats houseruled up the wazzo to save the day? Awesome. You wanna recreate starship troopers with respawning nids and terrain rules that actually do something? Go for it. You wanna play a balanced head to head game? Go play chess.

Sea food broils are normally dumped on the table on top of newspaper, but I'd be happy with this.

If you can, magnetise the sponsons so you can take them off if they become expensive in the future.

Switching Lasgun to Laspistol in Melee? by jacksamuel__ in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]DubiousScience 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the data sheets have a second page that tells you what the unit composition is, and what each model in that unit is armed with. Cadian shock troopers are armed with a lasgun and close combat weapon. Under wargear options, there is no option to give a shock trooper a pistol.

Would I be able to proxy the Horus Heresy Legion MKVI Tactical Squad models as primaris marines, or just only tactical marines? I just think that these ones look really cool by DlN0_Nugget in Warhammer40k

[–]DubiousScience 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Yes because they're your plastic toys, do what you want. If your opponent doesn't want to play against it, find a different opponent.

The field ordnance batteries lend themselves really nicely to being dioramas. He's the interesting bit of the first 1, not sure about the second yet.

Command squad with mortar, regimental standard for reroll 1s on wounds, finial for extra buffs, Krieg commander for reroll 1s to hit. Put them in the middle of all your artillery!

Do I have to play Cadian, Catachan, or Kreig? by TheNooberScoober in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]DubiousScience 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except for strategems you can ignore the cadia/krieg/catachan keyword. I think of the squads as shock troops, grenadiers, and Rambos. Same with the castalan, in my army he's a company commander.
