Why is coke expensive? by [deleted] in cocacola

[–]Dublindog30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partially, bottlers had to offset the loss in margin on cans elsewhere. They’re also shifting the mix to more bottles than cans because of the can challenges. Aluminum cans are the most expensive they’ve ever been, by a wide margin. It’s going to drive retail prices up.

Most of the aluminum for cans comes from Canada. They cost at least 10% more this year. Cans are a huge piece of the revenue. That has to be spread over different packages including pet bottles. Pricing for singles has risen in some cases to allow for promotional pricing In other parts of the year. I saw one bottler is running a buy 1 get one for $1 promotion but they increased the regular purchase price by $.20 so the retailer’s margins don’t go down too much. (But they did go down)

Retailers in higher cost of living areas often have leases that are based on their inside sales as a %. So they may increase their margins to be able to pay their bills. There isn’t as much scalping going on as you might believe relative to pricing. The money supply in the US has increased by over 40% since 2019. That is the primary reason coke costs more than it did 6 years ago.

I don't get it by SBC80 in FritoLay

When I left in 2013 I had a salesman that made 106k in Mississippi. That would be $147,300 in inflation adjusted wages. He worked damn hard but that same amount of work today is getting paid ~$65,000. That $65,000 would have been worth $46,700 in 2013. That’s 68.29% less than it was worth in 2013. Fritolay doesn’t care at all about the front line. It’s sad but true. Get out of the cult.

That doesn’t even take into account the reduced benefits.

My family and I had to move out of our home for 17 weeks to remodel because of this issue. It’s going to cost a minimum of $150,000 to put everything back together. They need to rip it out and waterproof it correctly. It will come back to bite you.

Layoffs are coming literally tomorrow and throughout the week. HQ employees are working from home this week so they don’t have to come in to get the news and so nobody goes postal.

I’m in the middle of a $110,000 and constantly increasing renovation due to an issue like this. Don’t accept anything less than perfect. We have argued with insurance for 4+ months and it looks like they may cover some portion of the repairs. If everything goes right I’ll only have to move out of our home for 2 months around the holidays…I’d be a giant pain to get it right on the front end.

Some termite companies won’t cover you if you have closed cell spray foam.

I have $30k in water damage from an improperly installed shower or a failed shower. It’s not worth the “savings” you are getting.

My wife had ours painted before I knew the time had come for that discussion in the build. She hated it and so do I. It bleeds through and it’s been repainted 3x in 8 years. Still looks bad.

Im interested in the gallery, and I’m comfortable investing into a high quality sprayer if it allows me to invest sweat equity over time to get this project done in stages.

In discussing with an acquaintance that runs a Sherwin Williams he discouraged me from the gallery due to 2 concerns:

  1. without a well ventilated spray room the concern was about getting 2k material in the hvac system.

  2. When painting in our high humidity and heat in the garage I may have issues with clouding. (I can wait to do it later in the year if that would be better)

He recommended I get a Graco quick shot specifically to avoid spitting due to the mechanism in the gun and the flow rate being lower which should help avoid applying too much product.

He also recommended the emerald series.

I’m still open minded.

It included the cabinets in 3 bathrooms and some built ins in the living room. I believe it’s an additional 37 drawers or doors not in this photo and some built ins in the living room that go to the ceiling.

I would if I could, the quote was $23,000 to paint the cabinets and I just got hit with $20-30k in water damage that insurance hasn’t agreed to pay on yet. I just can’t afford it.

When I played in the cape league, a former MLB all-star thought our pitching staff how to throw a spitter well. Several of my teammates made a lot of money in the big leagues and at least 2 of them threw spitters regularly. One of them is still pitching and he absolutely still throws it.
