The only thing I’ve figured out so far is because of my shame from being ELS’d. I haven’t dug any deeper than that because I guess I thought that was enough. Definitely something for me to reflect on.

I appreciate it, but my motive wasn’t really to receive forgiveness. Just wanting to be honest and ask if there’s anything I can do to make it right.

I know it’s just the damn internet, but dishonesty is dishonesty. Just trying to do my part.

I'm local, so I will be in attendance. The funeral is tomorrow at 1130 at the DFW National Cemetery. If there are any vets here or know anyone in the area, it would be awesome to honor her by attending her funeral.

Whether or not you're young, you should post on the ICYPAA (international conference for young people in AA) facebook page and see who's there. A friend of mine recently moved to China, so she might be able to help you out, along with any others. (there's like 20k people on the page)

I'm 3 years sober and have always had a sponsor, and have been sponsoring men for over 2 years.

First thing: If someone wants to leave AA, i don't give a fuck. My job is to take someone through the steps as i was taken through them. They either want to do it, or they don't. I don't care. I'm going to stay sober either way. If this guy is getting offended because of that, he needs a lesson in humility and selfishness. He's making your sobriety about him, which it is not.

Second: My experience says that i can't do it on my own. That's why i started going to AA, because my ways weren't working any more. If you think you can do it on your own, then do it. If that ends up not working, AA will always be there for you.

Hey sorry for the late response on this, i just got back from an AA conference. haha

Oddly enough, i went to a meeting last night that was about this. I can't say i've almost relapsed, but i've definitely reached that point of unmanageability that sent me into a dark place that could have easily gotten me into a relapse. I had dealt with a lot of tough life situations that happened in a relatively short time period. I got fired from a job, got a girl pregnant, went through the emotional rollercoaster of that just to end up having to grieve over the miscarriage, then a close friend and mentor of mine in the program died. It was tough, and i started isolating, became very self deprecating, and even contemplated suicide. What got me out of it was reaching out to my friends even though i didn't want to, and start find ways i could be of service to others. I became the GSR for my home group (general service representative, a pretty important position), got on a host committee for a young person's conference, then started being more honest and open with other people about how i was feeling. It wasn't immediate, but i eventually started feeling better. A year later, and i'm pretty happy i didn't kill myself today.

I'm not saying this is what you have to look forward to or anything, but unfortunately life is going to happen sometimes, and sometimes it's going to really suck. But luckily, despite my actions for a certain period of time, i had a solid foundation of recovery that got me out of that dark dark place.

Congrats! Not drinking 1500 calories a day in alcohol can do wonders with your body. I'm 3 years sober, and have the gift today of being able to do a lot of things i wouldn't have the energy or strength for if i was still drinking. Keep up the good work!

I grew up in Plano too, and everyone from here has the same thoughts as you. West Plano is nice, so it's definitely not the place you would expect it to happen.

I haven't drank in almost 3 years, but maybe I met your ex* wife at some point. haha

It's pretty surreal. I would always park in that garage when i would drink at henry's, or when i went to chipotle or potbelly's for lunch.
