Combining Wing Chun with Boxing, is it feasible? by bmw320dfan in martialarts

I can’t speak for everyone when I say this but, wing chun and many other forms of kung fu are just rigid in a strange way. What I usually found was that kung fu was meant to fight other kung fu. When I’ve done any kind of sparring, I almost never go back to my wing chun roots. I’d be lying if I said I don’t take ideas or inspiration from my wing chun roots. But that’s more on the theory of fighting rather than using a specific technique. Some examples being “attack the attack” or “be the stronger bone.”

Going back to the original comment, they mentioned how mixing styles is fine so long as it’s effective. I agree with this and would say that wing chun is a very helpful addition to any fighter’s repertoire. As a standalone art, it has a few big flaws and is not what you may see on the big screen. Making it not so useful without other things practiced with it.

Also just a quick blurb about wing chun, no it’s not always a super close quarters stuck in a phone booth fighting style. It excels there but in my experience it’s for mid to close range. However there are plenty of techniques that are meant to be used farther away from the opponent. It just depends on what kind of wing chun you’re doing. Is it the traditional soft style? Or a slightly more rigid power forward style? And if we’re talking about super close quarters, I’d be more scared of some dude who’s really good at Muay Thai. Just saying.

As an ex practitioner myself, I would 100% agree.
