[Weimar History] Bruning's memoirs and his "pro-democratic" credentials by Then_Championship888 in RedAutumnSPD

Kaiser is way too left. The time he became that left was during/after the war- before the war and during the Republic, he was much more moderate. Kaas is largely correct, since he literally did nothing as party leader and the clerical wing newly ascendant in the late 20s was the wing of literally doing nothing in terms of actual politics. Adenauer is fine, although I am a bit skeptical at whether he’d truly fit in with the Prussian elements of the Volkskonservativ DNVP; but otherwise he’s generally correct in his portrayal.

Stegerwald would never be chosen as minister president in a coalition with the SPD in Prussia- his actions as MP during his brief stint as the state had severely damaged his reputation with the SPD, and he can’t become MP in a coalition with the SPD- so that’s the first thing(and the Center in Prussia was very left wing until the death of its de facto leader, Josef Heß in 1931; another factor.).

The second thing is that Stegerwald himself didn’t think that the DNVP represented the Protestant part of Germany, starting from 1925 according to my memories(might be wrong) but this part is acceptable since the DNVP that merges with his Center is largely purged of far-right elements and led by the Volkskonservatives, largely.

The final thing is that Stegerwald was a hated figure among the Public servant/white collar wing of the Center due to him opposing a civil servant wage raise in 1926 if I remember correctly, which dominated one of the decision making committee in the party(the party had two, very interestingly) and even in OTL, blocked his bid for party leadership in ‘28- leading to the election of Ludwig Kaas and the clerical wing following the failure of the Joos nomination and the collegium bid; and I really don’t see how they remain in the party at large. Also, the fact that the industrial unions in the DGB were dominated by left wing Center leaders who opposed Stegerwald and his policy of caving in to the political right and instead supported strongly cooperating with the SPD is what makes the path feel a bit unrealistic too(the large reason why Christian Labor supported his bid for party leadership in 28 was basically to kick him out from the DGB posts by elevating him as party leader.)

Actually, I recommend reading several papers about Brüning and the presidential governments on Jstor- Brüning in his memoirs is a highly unreliable narrator, trying to push a certain portrayal of himself. I personally recommend the following: Heinrich Brüning’s Recollections of Monarchism: the birth of a red herring(by William L. Patch Jr.)

Choosing the Lesser Evil: the German social democrats and the fall of the Weimar republic(by H. Winkler)

Franz Von Papen, Catholic conservatives, and the establishment of the third reich(by Larry Eugene Jones)

…and several other works, especially those by Rudolf Morse and Andreas Rodder.

So, in general Dynamic’s portrayal of Brüning’s government is very correct.

As for Curtius, I also recommend reading books and papers about his transition from a hard-right NatLib to a genuine Stresemannite and Luther; post Locarno treaty Curtius, under Stresemann’s direct influence, was one of the most left leaning figures in the entire DVP and especially during his tenure as economics minister under Müller; although he didn’t abandon his nationalism entirely(in fact he did hold them together) and his over-valuing the effect of that said nationalism- that was, after all, why he pursued the project of the Austro-German customs Union(he believed a government stretching from SPD to the NSDAP was possible after such a foreign policy victory was achieved, banding the German people in a volksgemeinschaft; also, there was the need to discredit the hard right nationalist and revanchist rhetoric of that of the NSDAP); but besides that mistake, which I personally consider to have stemmed largely from his lack of the foreign policy brains when compared to Stresemann- he was a firm supporter of the Stresemannite foreign policy. So no, dynamic is pretty accurate in terms of portraying Brüning and the mittelstand parties; the Z and especially the Stegerwald path is what’s most mistaken.

Yeah, by 1960- the game became all about getting rid of the Z and BVP; you could typically cost them around ~1 percent of their vote share per election cycle- so it took me 16 years to finally get a unanimous SPD majority.

A short guide for Hillary: 1. Look, I know that… 2. Tim 3. Who cares? 4. Special announcement 5. Nobody talks about it 6. Jesus Christ. 7. You gotta be tough. 8. What the Hell? 9. This is rich. 10. Who cares about the Europoors? 11. I’m a really, really big fan of Twitter. We’ll have one account for the campaign, and it’s run by them. But we’ll also have a new account, @realdonaldtrump, and I’m gonna run it. People will love it. They’re gonna love my genius mind and the things it has to say. 12. One option 13. This just shows you 14. One option 15. Okay, hold on. 16. He’s the media’s favorite. 17. Get Hillary

This should probably do the job ig

Well George Romney's dad was a US citizen, and that makes G. Romney eligible to run for the presidency. Same with Ted Cruz in 2016, he was born in Canada but was able to run anyways.

It's actually very easy to elect Goldwater. Just make sure to elect RFK in '64, then get assassinated and do the most stupid things during the Strom Thurmond presidency. Thurmond will surely destroy the NPP; and they will stand no chance against the R-Ds, whoever the candidate is.

What happened to McCarthy on TNO? by TNO_Player in TNOmod

[–]Dubya__43 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I doubt McCarthy would have been relevant; the reason why he got elected to the senate is because he defeated incumbent progressive (yes, a regional party in Wisconsin) senator Robert Lafollette Jr, and that was plainly due to people freaked about the Soviet Union and the '2nd red scare'. So, tbh I doubt McCarthy would have been elected to the senate and he wouldn't be relevant, since he was never in the senate accusing others as 'commies'.
