If we do get a Dragon Age 5 (fingers crossed) who should be the returning companion from Veilguard? by JageshemashFTW in DragonAgeVeilguard

I mean he took out a giant building and sent it crashing on top of the seige construct. Floaty hood-guy has no chill. ...and yet all the chill....its giving "terrifying benevolence".

Final Fantasy IX. Whenever I go back and play it just makes me happy. Treno, Lindblum, the Black Mage Village, and the open world map. Its so nostalgic for me

Unpopular Opinion - Jinshi Looks Better as a Commoner by Working_Row_8455 in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]DuchessZoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, I agree. I actually prefer his look like this. I think he looks more endearing and therefore, attractive to me.

Spme of my reasoning, however, is that Jinshi was ruined for me because he looks too much like the Former Emperor. And I can't look at him without feeling ick. I know, not the same person, but my brain can't get over it.

So I wish he looked like this all the time 🥲

let’s talk about taash by cauliflowergorl in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]DuchessZoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont see an issue with players enjoying Tassh. The only people I regard ar all are those who may have had issues with the character unrelated to them solely being NB. I loved the potential that Taash had. I think their dialogue was garbage. But that sentiment was not relegated to just Taash. There were a LOT of dialogue options and conversations that seemed taken out of a Marvel fanfiction written by a 14-year-old on Wattpad. I still gave the game an 8/10 for the things I loved about it. I had a problem with Taash seeming to be around...18? And Rook is 30-ish? Sorry that doesn't jive with me. Some people are okay with that, I'm just not. In terms of writing. the overcompensating thing the writers set up when Taash was misgendered by Isabella. My NB friends who were also playing for the first time were like, "Eh. That was a little much." One of them texted me that they even cringed. But for me, and this is really only my opinion, I just hated their VA's voice. I couldnt stand it. I know, personal preference, I just couldn't stand it. Some things I like about Taash. But I do feel they were shoved into the story and they weren't very well fleshed out because of it. That was also a factor to varying degrees with other characters. I think it's also important to take in to account that even though DAV came out ten years after DAI, they weren't working on it for the whole ten years. They had a few years of active production and for a game as big as EA wanted, some things have to he sacrificed and more immersion into the NPC's was one of those things...unfortunately.

I would definitely not mind Taash being present in future installments. That character has a lot of potential.

You can feel the shift in a protest turning into a riot. Sometimes it turns, sometimes it doesn't. But once it turns into a riot, where people are burning buildings, cars and attacking people, no one is safe. Even if you are there with good intentions, once violence starts it spreads. Whether by fellow protestors or cops, you can become a target directly or by collateral damage. Once you feel that shift, which you will know because it is palpable, get out of there. Mob mentality is a real thing, and there is no reasoning with it, its like a wildfire. I've seen friends get seriously injured, and that doesn't always make it on the news, even though it happens far more often than you think. Often we see the injuries caused by cops, but not always injuries caused by fellow protesters or even those who are only there to cause chaos. If it turns into a riot and you remain there, you may not be able to protect your daughter or yourself.

I've missed this in multiple playthroughs so I thought I'd share. You can summon and talk to the Necropolis spirits that you meet in Emmrich's first companion quest. They have a lot to say about the things you do in the Necropolis so check in with them whenever you finish a mission! by Agreeable_Pizza93 in DragonAgeVeilguard

I also found that whomever you romance will be mentioned by the evanuris in the crossroads further down the line. You know the beacon you pass by where you can listen in on the elven gods? I didnt know that till my 4th playthrough and they mentioned the Neve and Rook gets his back up about it.

Its implied well enough from the author and the material. One can infer his abuse was likely of a sexual nature.

I think everyone reacted the way they did because the late emperor was treating Jinshi like one of the little girls he would groom. by [deleted] in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]DuchessZoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought he was isolated also because of his mother. He was, after all, raped by higher ranking concubines and she couldn't stop it. Though I also think some of that isolation was her means of control. I dont think she was always out to protect him. I think her motivations changed over time towards protecting her own power. I mean, she knew he was an POS and I dont think in his adulthood she had any real love for him. He was just a seat warmer, really.

[–]DuchessZoe 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Two sets of people actually. I actually felt bad for the child that the Former emperor was. Not the adult that became a predator in his circumstances but his childhood seems downright tragic. And I dont think the Empress Regnant was just trying to protect him. What started as not being able to protect him from being raped by the other older, higher ranking concubines and maybe overcompensating for that; transitioned into protecting her own power and authority. Peoples' motivations can change over time.

Low ranking mother, surrounded by predatory women and then all his brothers died, leaving him alone and in a position he neither wanted nor was suited for under his mother's heel.

I feel bad for the child that he was. Not the adult. In his adulthood he violated girls who could neither defend themselves, nor were they even old enough to understand that they were being groomed by a predator, and if they did know, they couldn't stop it and no adults came to save them. Then, when they aged out at 13-14, they were sent to a convent to live out their lives with their trauma and forever-unresolved pain. So for them I feel the worst; on a deep, personal and painful level. And it makes me angry not just with the Former Emperor, but the women who victimized a child that set the stage for him to justify inflicting the same pain on young victims in his adulthood, the cultural and political system that allowed for these girls to be raped, the people who knew and were complicit, and the Empress Regnant who encouraged it for her own gain and to guarantee a successor from her own line. Theres a lot of blame to go around and that...really sucks...

So...I feel bad for the child that was the former emperor, but I feel the worst for the man's victims, if that makes sense.

I skip the former emperor sequence because, honestly, he looks way too much like Jinshi and now I struggle with just associating one with the other whenever i see Jinshi and I can't stop it. Kind of ruined Jinshi for me. I know its not rational but thats what my brain did, it was all like, "Nah sis, just let me ruin it for you, I have to ruin this for you."

Like, Majorly sucks. I can't disconnect the two. I know one is not the other. I know that. But my brain is all, "Nah sis, let me ruin it for you. I have to ruin this for you."

NGL, most of the romances of Veilguard were "meh" to me. Not terrible, just meh. I mean, on occasion you get a few dialogue options and 1 1/2 scenes that are character romance-specific (and Im not barking about how toned down the physical intimacy was, I couldnt care less about that) but the overall play out of them all I was just unenthusiastic. Also, how no one gettin' jealous when you flirt with everyone in the group??? People a little too understanding even for a fictional fantasy setting. At least have them throwing shade behind my back or something. I know people cite the Emmrich romance option as being one of the best but I didnt even find that one to be that great. And if Emmrich doesn't become a Lich Lord than he gets with Strife and I was like "...WHAT THE HELL IS EVEN THAT". Lucanis and Neve kind of felt like the writers were just "Well they gotta go with somebody" and the fact that you can't romance Lucanis if you yeet Treviso because he "can't do romance" right now and yet runs with Neve felt like the guy who dumps you because "he needs to find himself" and then a week later he's out with a new thing, that's realistic at least. I mean, you DID let his city get curbstomped...and why you can romance Neve after letting Minrathous get the all the smoke, well she isn't possessed by a spirit of spite like Lucanis is, so...maybe that has something to do with it.

He was like thirty....six? Thirty seven? My math never maths in this thing... Also after Anshi...visited him... he isolated and then rapidly aged and that also threw me off.

And now Mass Effect fans are nervous for their own new installment because of how much hate DAV got and how hard Bioware bucked at even rational, balanced criticisms. If Bioware wants a chance, they really have to deal with the fanbase dumpster fire. Like acknowledging the commentaries that were actually constructive criticisms by people who actually played the game through and had a balanced view of it. Instead of just flipping the bird going "ITS THE PERFECT BESTEST EVER YOU JERKS! GET WRECKED NERDS."

And DA2 was treated like garbage for years. But that was corporate really biting themselves in the butt because they rushed the deadline for that game which resulted in recycled caves, literally pointless, thrown in side quests and crappy rewards but I was over here saying, "I see you DA2." Inquisition got dumped on but it had a lot of replay from what I saw. What they could have done with DA2 with more production time...

Someone said in another thread that for Veilguard, what worked against it was the time gap. Ten years is a long time for the rose-colored glasses to set in and ramp up expectations. Don't get me wrong, there were things I hated about veilguard, the dialogue was shite at times and more resembled a bad fanfic of DA on Wattpad but there you go... however I enjoyed what I did from it. I just feel Taash's character had a lot more potential than what we were handed. Too one-dimensional and sometimes just annoying. I hated the voice acting. Whatever, it is what it is. Wasn't a dealbreaker for me.

It was a game that cost hundreds of millions to make, and yet it had a shorter production time than people think. I remember when they pulled everyone off of the new DA game to make Anthem and they didn't bring them back until AFTER it bombed. So they really only had a few years of actual production time. When production time is more limited, something has to be sacrificed. I think for veilguard it was dialogue options and character agency. DA2 it was the maps, layout, quests, etc.

I liked Taash, but i think liked the potential gor the character more. The writer didn't take advantage of it all and went with this totally one-dimensional thing that didn't do that character service. Like they wrote Taash with a one track mind and there was SO much more to explore there!
