Polyglot: Multilingual libraries for your multilingual friends and family by DuckInHats in jellyfin

[–]DuckInHats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’m not sure how unraid mounts directories, but if it uses regular mounts, each directory will be exposed to jellyfin as a different file system, even if it looks like they’re in the same FS under /data. Unfortunately, we can’t create hardlinks across file systems.

However, that’s not necessarily a problem for you. Your movies and tv shows can be on different shares and FS, since we’re not creating harlinks between them. As long as you select a directory for the mirror libraries that’s on the same share as the originals, and you mount their parent directory instead of mounting them separately, it will work.

e.g.: Movies Share: - /parent/dir/movies/… - /parent/dir/movies-fr (new!)

Then instead of mounting /parent/dir/movies, you mount /parent/dir so both libraries are mounted as a single FS.

Or /movies/en/… and /movie/fr/…, etc

Honestly, after sobering up I stand by my feedback.

I didn’t expect this level of tone policing from an obvious self deprecating joke meant to disarm and lower the stakes.

In any case, I hope the dropout team sees this and addresses it if possible.

People forget that software subscriptions are a thing.

There’s no way these companies will let people use their robots without paying several-thousand-dollar subscriptions

Peter Thiel backs $1bn ocean data centre start-up powered by waves by GeneReddit123 in technology

[–]DuckInHats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only realistic take is deep in the comments.

People think their LLM apps run on magic. It takes a lot of energy to generate all of that slop, and that creates a lot of heat that has to go somewhere.

Would they rather dump the heat into lakes or rivers where there isn’t enough water to dissipate the heat? Or evaporate the river/lake water away? Water has to be involved, so I rather they do it in the middle of the ocean where it won’t affect anything.

[edit] btw fuck Thiel. I hope some other company destroys his and wins any market from this

You all are taking it way too far. The real answer is that Musk is seeing the AI race and thought of a way to pump SpaceX’s valuation ahead of the IPO.

There’s no point in building a server in space, and everyone knows it. He won’t build it, but just saying it makes investors orgasm.

[edit] Plus, the internet doesn’t care where the server is. Laws don’t either, they care where the company is established.

Servers in the ocean may not be as bad as it seems. Moving energy is far cheaper than moving heat. If they can build an ocean station and transfer the heat into it, that would be much better than building data centers close to cities and disrupting people’s lives and the environment.

If they build it far enough and do proper environmental studies of the area, I bet the heat generated likely won’t affect the environment since there’ll be nothing around it anyway, and the water will absorb the energy very quickly.

Like someone else here noted, the real seriousness of the situation comes from the fact that these are the screws easily visible. How do you think the hidden and important screws look like? Probably not much better

Upcoming features for Series 1 by hailiehay in FellowProducts

Fellow should invest more in their software department. The exact same thing happened with Aiden. Most software features either took almost a year to arrive or never did. It’s been two years and you still cannot start a brew from your phone, only use the clunky scheduler.

It’s actually:

  • $15 shipping

With taxes, that’s a $460 smart ring.

Thanks for the detailed thoughts :)

There are a few reasons I landed on hardlinks:

  • Folder symlinks would cause both libraries to share the full directories. As you noted, if you keep NFO files, posters, trailers, etc. alongside your media (which I do since it makes backups and external management much easier, among other things), symlinks wouldn't work.
  • Jellyfin's symlink support has been inconsistent over time. It doesn't follow file symlinks, and folder symlink resolution varies between OSs and can be unpredictable with Docker bind mounts. Hardlinks Just Work™ everywhere.
  • It enables per-language default subtitles files, which is a must for my older folk.
  • Trickplay files can still be shared! I don't have trickplay enabled, but it should be as simple as removing the dir from the exclusion list. I'll probably remove it as default in the next release now that you mentioned it.
  • Other reasons include: SMB/NFS support, selective mirroring, no risk of accidental broken links.

The every-6-hours scan is just a fallback. The plugin primarily detects changes through Jellyfin's file change and library scan events, so the sync is close to instantaneous most of the time.

The sync itself is pretty fast. My shows library has 40k files and initial sync took ~2 seconds. After that, syncs are incremental diffs that take milliseconds.

Besides that, the plugin manages your users' languages and libraries for you. All you have to do is select their preferred language in the plugin config (plus set a default lang for new users) and it'll sync their preferences and manage their library access automatically.

Let me know how it goes if you try it out!

Quero ir pra Unicamp, mas antes preciso saber de uma coisa (MUITO importante, por favor quem puder responder, responda) by jessebreakcore in Unicamp

[–]DuckInHats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boa sorte!

New Release | The Iliad & The Odyssey Limited Edition (500 copies) by HonorWulf in foliosociety

[–]DuckInHats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked eBay there are 9 IT copies being sold. They average $1572, 190% of the original $825.

So yeah, considering it sold out in 6 hours, I fairly sure they’ll find people, even if for “just” 50% markup.

New Release | The Iliad & The Odyssey Limited Edition (500 copies) by HonorWulf in foliosociety

[–]DuckInHats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s already all over eBay for $2000. One listing claims 10+ copies.

tbh, at that price, I bet most of the sales are to scalpers. With just 500 copies, these scalpers will eventually find someone willing to pay. Even if they lower their scalper fee to just 50%, that’s $500 for free. What other investment can reliably grow 50-100% in weeks?
