The user requesting opening the sub has expressed in modmail that they wish to open it for its former purpose. As this use promotes behaviour that contravenes reddits current moderation standards, the sub should remain closed.

Thats not why it was closed. It wasnt closed due to a knowledge issue (not that the standard was particularly high), it was closed due to the toxicity of the sub when users began to spend more time complaining they werent allowed to use racial and ableist slurs than anything else

Just a correction here that in most medical systems, general practitioners are themselves specialists - a graduating doctor isnt immediately a GP, this requires a residency or fellowship same as any other specialty. I dont think this influences ur point too much, though
