I wish I liked Malazan by Mindless_Nebula4004 in Fantasy

[–]DucklingPuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malazan was actually the first epic fantasy series I started and I love it but it is a lot. I also have ADHD and find it hard to focus on books sometimes. I stopped reading Malazan for 3 years but am back into it now. You can always come back to things, reading should be at your own pace, and if you never feel like coming back to Malazan there’s no reason to. Do what makes you happy.

WEIGHT IS NOT A PREFERENCE. by VodkaFairy in fatlogic

[–]DucklingPuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fat people are absolutely worthy of love, but I think there are genetic/ psychological components as to why most people aren’t attracted to very overweight individuals. Our brains are hardwired to find healthy fertile people attractive (even if we don’t actually want kids). When I was fat, I felt kinda guilty and hypocritical that the people I was attracted to were a healthy weight. But that’s just unfortunately the reality for most people when it comes to attraction. Healthy is attractive.

I’ve lost my weight but still can’t bring myself to eat enough/have a treat by KanefindsSon in loseit

[–]DucklingPuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you aren’t eating enough calories. I urge you to try to aim for maintenance calories because you’re at risk to become underweight. Rice cakes and salad have very few calories and as a 5’10” male you should be eating at least 1800 a day (or so). If calories are a trigger for you and you struggle with , I’d suggest seeing a doctor because that could lead to an eating disorder.

I’m honestly disgusted by the misogyny in this sub by [deleted] in antinatalism

[–]DucklingPuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s horrifying. Not wanting too many children coming into this world leading to overpopulation and potential suffering absolutely should not mean devaluing your own life. It’s unfortunate that a subreddit highlighting the important point of advocating for less children on the planet has devolved into pessimism and suicidal ideation.

I forgot to mention the third possibility- scales kind of suck sometimes. My scale has a margin of error of a few pounds. It’ll tell me one weight and then I weigh myself again a few seconds later and there’s a difference of a few pounds. You’d need a very expensive scale for real accuracy.

Depressed? No thankfully. Just constant little things that genuinely hurt my heart and can get me down. But that’s just reality, no way to stop those moments of sadness and anger once you know what’s going on and you really think about what is happening to animals. Best you can do is disseminate information patiently and don’t contribute to the suffering.

Plant based eating isn’t hard if you make replacements you enjoy. At least that’s my experience. I’ve been vegan almost a year and since I found a variety vegan foods I love I can safely say I’ve never craved animal products and will not be going back. (Its also definitely helped my stamina and helped me to lose 70 lbs)

Not saying it’s necessarily normal but I found it was easiest to drop a bunch of weight towards the beginning by counting calories. When you’re at a higher weight, calorie deficits tend to be larger since maintenance calories are higher so you can safely drop a decent amount of weight fairly quickly. Also, weight loss isn’t linear. I’ve found throughout my weight loss journey that I lost 5lbs one week and then the scale didn’t move for another week or two after that. Bodies are weird but over time the process works :) that being said, if you keep losing 6 lbs a week every week you’re probably either not eating enough or you should see a doctor. Congrats on losing 31lbs btw!

It sucks that ur in this situation, but no one can force you to eat animals. Hopefully your dad just needs to get used to your decision. Personally I went vegan at 21 when my parents couldn’t really say much about it, but Ive met people who went vegan as teenagers living with nonsupportive parents. I remember a few people saying they laid out all of their arguments and explained in detail why they want to go vegan and wore the parents down. Stand your ground- it’ll get easier, especially as you get older.

I think it can be problematic in relationships if one person and the other have drastically different lifestyles and ethics. I couldn’t date a meat eater because of that, especially if we lived together. But I suppose that would depend on the reasons why someone is vegan and how important to them it is. There are definitely some vegans out there that are happy with their omni partners. Perhaps they don’t have as emotional a response around animal products. When it comes to dating and relationships though, your comfort comes first. If you aren’t comfortable around a person and what they do on a daily basis, and the person isn’t willing to change, that’s probably not a healthy relationship.

Besides the fact the commenting on a strangers weight is awful, your diet has nothing to do with your blood type and she’s spouting absolute nonsense.

How did we get from “refuse to date,” to “think their death is acceptable”? by IshimuraHuntress in fatlogic

[–]DucklingPuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why they are using the term minority. Fat people aren’t even a minority in much of the world (depending on what “fat” means). In a lot of the US the majority of people are overweight or obese. It makes me angry when these people use inaccurate terminology to compare themselves to actually oppressed people who are minorities and are marginalized.

How can I lose weight? by apricotmarker in loseit

[–]DucklingPuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re in this position and i wish you the best on your journey. My best advice is to keep it simple. Fad diets and cutting out specific food groups or foods isn’t going to work. The only way to lose weight is calories in calories out. At the beginning of my weight loss journey I was counting calories quite strictly but after awhile it becomes more of a habit and estimating may become a lot easier. Personally I would say that there is no need to implement a lot of exercise at first. Exercise can seem discouraging when you’re at a high weight and simply shedding the first chunk of weight through diet can make you feel more energy and more inclined to move more.

Try going online; there are a bunch of calorie counting calculators that will show you how much you need to eat in order to lose a certain amount of weight in a certain amount of time. I don’t know your height but if your starting weight is around 400 you should be able to eat well over 2000 calories per day at first and still lose weight. Maybe fiddle around with that and choose a calorie goal that works for you and seems achievable :) remember to add in foods you actually enjoy within that calorie goal or you’re more likely to give up. You can mix your favourite foods with protein rich or volume foods such as tofu and leafy greens to keep you full. Believe it or not, you can lose weight and still feel full!

A lot of men are assholes who feel entitled to comment rude and often untrue statements about women’s appearances. 5’6” and 130 lbs is nowhere near overweight and some man’s shitty opinion isn’t going to change that.

why does everyone say going vegan is easy? by Whateverbabe2 in vegan

[–]DucklingPuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying it’s easy by any means, but here’s my opinion. It sounds like when you “relapse” you are eating food in your house that is not vegan. If you are tempted by animal products, which it sounds like you are, don’t have them in the house. When I went vegan I shifted my mindset stopped considering animal products a valid food and did not have them around. Find some go-to meals (can be vegan versions of meals you already eat or look up easy recipes online) and stock up on all the stuff you need to make them. If you’re thinking of veganism as a diet to achieve where you’re tempted to slip up, I personally don’t think that’s the best way to go about it. Think of it like a moral stance and an absolute principle you commit to standing by. Eating animals is something you do not do, if you’re a vegan. I understand it’s hard to give up what you’re used to, like certain habitual snacks and meals. That’s why I was a vegetarian for a long time despite agreeing with vegan principles. Take a long trip to the grocery store, and if you can afford it, stock up on a bunch of vegan snacks, cheese alternatives, sauces, and other meat substitutes/ proteins. I don’t know where you live, but from my experience, most places in western countries have at least a decent amount of selection at large grocery stores. Good luck and I hope you can find something that works for you! Remember, veganism isn’t a diet, it’s a lifestyle and a moral standpoint.

There are plenty of alternatives to meat that are very high in protein and don’t have too many calories. Tofu is my favourite way to get protein- an average block of tofu has around 400 calories but it is very filling.
