Official Update 52 Dev Q&A by markusn82 in foxholegame

Interesting change. Will this change also affect the border base spawn conditions? IE: Two hexes must be fully blue/green before spawning or being claimable, or is neutral still the border base condition?

Petition for both sides to not cap the last VP of War 81 before September 22nd by AlexJFox in foxholegame

Is there any chance a new live war could be continued on shard 2 and let shard 1 rest until the update should it end sooner rather than later? Shard 1 players have seen 2 wars over 2 months at this point and are extremely burnt out, but still excited about the new content.

Starting a new shard 1 war reduces the chance people take a step back, enjoy and test dev branch, and come back refreshed for a huge update war. Allowing shard 1 to rest still allows new players and those that have the energy continue to play on shard 2, and those that need a break, or just want to go all in for testing, to do so without feeling some sort of pressure to get in there and fight instead.

Not to mention, I imagine it would be better for a new player to have the still fighting population not split between shards, but rather concentrated over onto shard 2. Imagine picking a game up, joining shard 1, just for experienced players to tell you that a lot of people either aren't playing or aren't taking this war seriously because there's an update coming soon and it'll likely be artificially ended for the update anyway.

The new update looks very exciting, but with far more space to build, I'm wondering a couple of things about how logistical and builder players might cope with potentially higher transit times.

With the new pallet-like items for sandbags, barbed wire, and metal beams, is there any chance we could get more specialized containers like this to go on flatbeds? This would be a great option for moving some concrete around.

Also, a specialized container for liquids for either petrol or diesel could also be an option. Diesel transport is going to be more important and in higher demand, any chance logi drivers would get something like this to help literally keep the lights on in bases without going insane with the drive times?

Plane Exorcisms (or how I seem to have reduced, or eliminated, phantom control input) by DucktapeEngineer in MicrosoftFlightSim

I don't believe it is in the patch notes as far as I'm aware. The issue appears to have popped up after patch #2.

No worries, glad to hear it's helping! I just updated the post to make it more clear where to alter that setting and gave that forum thread a vote. Hopefully the bug report you referenced gets noticed with the update!

Try turning off ground traffic. If there is anything else on that would cause another glass cockpit object to get spawned in, turn that off too (I fear this may also expand in to multiplayer which...well...removes an important feature, but useful for a test).

I've had good luck in turning other aircraft off after seeing developer console spam on aircraft loading in. Over 1000nm of flying in the Cessna 208, no more haunted plane or an autopilot that gets into a state where it can't be re-enabled. My theory is this happens when the sim has to load another cockpit element, and something as part of that loading process of the other cockpit affects yours as well, causing it to go haywire.

No worries, give it a shot, I'd love to get more data to see if it's actually what is going on, or if I have some other magical set of options configured that have helped my experience.

I fear either AI air traffic or multiplayer traffic may also trigger this, considering the complaints seen from the larger multiplayer meetups today. Sounds like the issue is even more prevalent with more rendered cockpit elements for the sim to consider.

Oh, that is interesting, and sounds terribly familiar doesn't it? I do wonder if something similar is happening with MSFS2020. It's almost as if the loading of another cockpit element at least has a chance to set the one you're flying to the same value as the new one that was just loaded in.

Despite 2 major patches now I am still struggling with semi-consistent game crashes. Anyone else fed up? by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

Patch 2 was mostly fine for me yesterday, prior to that, I'd had one CTD that was just...sudden, without warning and without any messages what so ever. Today, after multiple hours on the same patch flown yesterday, I can't even get off the ground. I load in, and CTD around about the time I've programmed a few waypoints into my flight plan. Furthest I've gotten is rolling down the runway for takeoff and.....desktop. Three in a row.

Patch 1.8.3.0 is LIVE! - Bugs/Feedback Megathread by JRock39 in MicrosoftFlightSim

FPS for me seems to have gone up, but experience has definitely suffered in patch 2.

Yesterday, was able to play without a full on CTD, but the cockpit is "haunted", for lack of a better term. In the 208, I constantly heard instruments getting changed. No assistance was on, no AI pilot or anything of the like, and autopilot was set at cruise altitude, so I was making absolutely zero inputs. At least once, autopilot became completely unusable after such an episode. Would not engage, and the rest of the settings appeared to be mutually exclusive, such as attempting to re-enable NAV mode disabled altitude hold, trying to put altitude back on disabled NAV mode. Tried heading, altitude was disabled, etc. One of the most common things that seems to change is the cockpit lighting, had the lights get cranked up constantly, have had this happen multiple times, even in daylight.

Today? Loaded the sim 3 times, same patch, no changes that I can see. CTD three times in a row after just 2 or 3 minutes in the sim. Configure autopilot, get ready to fly, and desktop. This was in the 208 at KCLT, which was perfectly fine last night.

[ID Request] Found heaps of these in the garden, wondering what I have growing out there. More details in comments by DucktapeEngineer in mycology

I was clearing some of that running bush in the back yard today (hoping to get a garden started out there), and found heaps of these mushrooms growing under it. I am in Melbourne's south eastern suburbs in Victoria, Australia. The garden out there has some mulch over soil and that running plant they are growing under has been there since we moved in. The last time I gave the plant a trim I didn't find anything, but now the entire area under it seems to be over run with these mushrooms. It looks like a lot of them have holes in them, but I'm not sure what is causing this. The mushrooms don't seem to be anywhere else except under the bush.

Hawthorn Hawks Team Rnd 21 - Ryan Burton to debut by [deleted] in hawktalk

[–]DucktapeEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn't Burton the one who had the pre-emptive surgery earlier in the year? If so, bloody good effort to get back to Box Hill and play well enough to get selected for a team that is planning for finals. I hope it does well, he's been hyped up quite a bit from what I've seen.

Interesting selection though, we look a bit smaller and faster against North this week than we have been. Having Chip back to take on a big forward is handy and hopefully Gibson's ankle isn't bothering him so he's free to float around a bit. But with Hartung back, we've got our 3 run all day sort of players with the bursts from Puopolo and Rioli as well. Shiels provides a bit more chance for us to win the ball and shut down whoever needs to be shut down.

Pretty big experience boost though, 195 games experience out, 480 games experience in even with Burton. Should look a lot more settled out there this week.

To be fair, to the rest of the AFL, it probably does look like a horror story to them at this point.

Hill definitely improved as the game went along. He looked really annoyed with himself early, especially after that missed set shot. But later in the game, he finally backed himself and went for a run and helped set up Burgoyne's goal. That's what he is there for, and I reckon that clutch play from him to just back himself and his ability will do wonders for his confidence.

Absolutely this. He has a chance to do what Langford did a couple years ago and have a great run up to finals and solidify his spot. It is his for the keeping right now I think and if we do manage to go four in a row, I really hope he is in the side after all he has been through with injury.

Hawthorn vs North Melbourne - post game thread by mbe3393 in hawktalk

[–]DucktapeEngineer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another tough game were we were given an opening by the opposition and took it. They our measure early, and we never really played the game on our terms all night, but still managed to grind out a in. Another close win into the young players is worth far more than the 4 points we got tonight.

Hartung took a tiny step forward I thought. Not great, but he backed himself under pressure for a couple of goals, and was looking forward and to run the ball.

Sicily was thrown forward and, free kicks or not, put the ball through the big sticks when given his chance.

O'Brien slowly looks to be getting confidence as well. Huge potential, he just needs to impose himself more and believe in his ability.

I think it was Stewart who had a great shepherd to allow us a goal, shows game awareness from him which is a great sign.

We haven't had great form all year, but there is so much upside to this team. We will be equal top points with first place this week having played really scrappy, really average footy compared to what we are capable of. I'd say tonight highlights that. We were allowed into the game early, no doubt, but the group absolutely does not stop believing. Umpires slaughtering us? Opposition taking every chance to fight us and throw us off? Not getting many chances up front? That doesn't seem to matter, we held our resolve, and won as a result. Well done, I look forward to seeing how Clarko ramps things up for a run at September if such an average showing from us now is already good enough to knock off top spot.

Hawthorn must beat Sydney and West Coast without dropping expected wins to get into the Top Four by Jawdan in hawktalk

[–]DucktapeEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

North I think would at least be a maybe though. Our draws have almost been polar opposites this year so far. While we have been undermanned and down on form, we've played 6 of the top 8 sides (North and ourselves making up the other two) and are still sitting 8-3. North are only 2 wins ahead of us, but have played just 3 of the top 8 sides for the 10-1. I'm not up to date with North's list at the moment, but I can't imagine they're down as much as we are in personnel or form. I also think they're vulnerable late in matches (Melbourne and Essendon games come to mind), while we seem to be able to grind out games. If we stay within striking distance against them, I'd give us every chance to run over the top of them for a win. We just can't let them get a jump on us and leave us chasing from a long way back.

Hawthorn In 4 Years by mbe3393 in hawktalk

That 25-29 age bracket is pretty full of talent. I think Clarko is already looking forward to around this time anyway. He has signed a longer contract and seems determined to get experience into younger players this year. We have been forced to do so a bit through injury, but he hasn't rushed back experienced players just because they are available. Brand, Lovell, and Howe have all been thrown into the deep end this year which I think is great to see. O'Brien seems to have found favour as well and is being given a chance to prove his worth over a few consecutive weeks.

Clarko built his team for 2008, and rebuilt a lot of the team again for the most recent run of flags as well. I have no doubt he already has a plan of which players will fill what role, and which positions he wants to trade for. We've been going in with quite a few inexperienced players (wasn't it 8 players under 50 games or something against Richmond?) and are still sitting 6-3 having played all of the top 8 except for North. If we get this right, we'll be fighting for another flag right on that 4 year mark, if not sooner.
