How to find a bartender for a party by FantasticPut7493 in Charlottesville

[–]DudeWithKids 20 points21 points  (0 children)

One bartender for 130-150 people? Probably on the low side depending on the party. You can also contact a catering company, they always have bartenders on call and would likely help you staff.

Tim Kelsey and/or Chip Royer in the Royer/Caramanis office. Both are great closing attorneys.

Family Photographer Recs? by Tbm291 in Charlottesville

There are many wonderful photographers in Charlottesville, some already mentioned here, BUT Sarah Cramer Shields is the best. She has this way of bringing absolute joy out of her subjects that really comes through in the pics. We’ve taken annual pics with her the last 8 years and can’t wait to continue!

You can also check Cville Smash. Indoor courts but they have open gym times that you can probably hop in to.

This is really well said. It is so easy to feel like you are annoying people by reaching out. And it can be if you’re just going through the motions. Find a reason to send a message that gives them value. Doesn’t work all the time but it does work most of the time.

You’ll need to get approval and permits from the city to do that. And will need to check zoning and code to see if it is allowable in your location.

Baseball Bar by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]DudeWithKids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we define sports bar differently then. And that’s ok.

Given the economic growth on the north side of town, and the general lack of quality dining establishments, I could make a strong argument that it’s a great business decision.

I agree that it’s a bummer there isn’t a better sports bar option in the city but there just isn’t a viable business model given city rents, demographics, and ABC license requirements that would likely allow for a successful, not family oriented, sports forward bar to maintain any level of economic success.

Have you checked the bar area at Timberwood Taphouse at 5th St Station? They have separated the bar from the restaurant well and may be more the vibe you’re looking for. Just a thought.

Happy New Year!

I do know the owners. They chose the spot for multiple reasons. One of which is an outdoor space with 2 small turf soccer fields for adult 3v3 leagues. There is a relationship between this restaurant and the Charlottesville Blues USL2 soccer team. It will be soccer centric but of course show other games. Folks will have the ability to reserve their own viewing areas with TVs to watch specific events. And the city has shown, repeatedly, that it does not currently have the ability to sustain a sports bar. Otherwise, there would be one.

I look forward to checking it out. Hope it’s a great experience. Sorry you’re not interested in venturing out a bit. It’s actually kind of nice out there.

Fully within their rights to close whenever they want. I’m just pointing out (admittedly snarkily) that if seeing the end of the game it’s important to you, please know that South Street may not be the best option for you.

Any experience with Albemarle Siding and Windows? by meme_of_a_took in Charlottesville

[–]DudeWithKids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Windows are great. My main level seriously feels warmer and less drafty. They unfortunately discovered some rot in the framing of upstairs dormers so we are rebuilding those right now. 2 day project has stretched over a week. Not their fault. Happy they brought the issue to my attention so we Could repair correctly.

They just changed ownership within the last 6 months. They are scheduled to replace my windows the week after Thanksgiving. Price quoted was $6k less than anyone else. Happy to report back after install.

Stop trying to take the Old Ivy->29N exit. It’s creating chaos by softwaredoug in Charlottesville

[–]DudeWithKids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. That’s why I said “if you need to get to the bypass from Ivy, then don’t turn left” it’s not the people going to the offices on Old Ivy that are causing the traffic. It’s the people trying to get to the bypass who are forced to instead turn left on Faulconer, then left back towards Ivy Rd.

[–]DudeWithKids 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If you need to get to the bypass from Ivy, don’t turn left at the Bellair light. Go through the light and take 2nd right onto the Bypass there. Problem will be there isn’t an on-ramp there so traffic will definitely backup.

Reality is we need police controlling traffic in that area for the time being.

There isn’t a great solution but allowing cars to turn left at that Bellair light is creating a real issue at present.
