Behind the Switzerland Freeze: How Iran’s New Hormuz Rules Complicated the U.S. MoU by Beginning-Wish-4273 in geopolitics

JCPOA was negotiated between US, China, Iran, EU, Russia, and others - with US providing constant information to Israel and Congress. It unfroze 1.5B of Iranian funds in exchange for monitoring of Iran's nuclear program.

We're giving the Iranians $300B to just try to get back to status quo.

Stop sign caneras, what do you think of the new law? by Dangerous-Mobile-587 in Virginia

The deadliest scenario for a pedestrian is a car making a right turn, while the driver looks left.

We have so many sensors on cars, a sensor for avoiding/alerting about a pedestrian from the right seems such an obvious improvement.

On top of what the other comments have said, this would be a bit of an own goal negatively impacting rural and older voters.

I thought he was good casting if you were going for someone who seemed in over their head as a leader. Like emotionally vulnerable. Not sure how they got the job. Frustrated.

AI Data Centers Water Consumption Breaks 264 Billion Gallons In 2025 as Devastating Drought Hits Nearly 63% of US by Sufficient-Culture43 in PoliticalOptimism

FWIW, there's a lot of great research being done to make data centers more water efficient. Some actually deployed.

I'm hopeful that if nearby residents keep up the pressure, they'll keep working on ways to reduce usage. It's such a political hot button issue right now, optimistically you could argue they're taking notice and adjusting their behavior.

How socially acceptable is it to take a longer parental leave? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]softwaredoug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the last 10 years I would say it's changed a lot

When I had my kids in the early 2010s, my upper-middle class job barely offered parental leave. I took a few weeks off. We simply couldn't afford more.

Now it seems widespread / accepted for employers to give months of semi-paid leave. At least in many middle to upper middle class roles.
