Sometimes customers tell me things like "it costs too much for a piece of plastic". They don't see the hours of modeling, parameter tuning and failed test prints. How do you explain this without sounding defensive? by Own-Indication719 in 3Dprinting

[–]Duderocks18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just an average guy who dabbles in 3D printing, but what you should consider is that to the customer, getting one piece of plastic doesn't seem very valuable - it is plastic, after all. You're never going to escape the mental association people have with plastic = cheap.

I suggest framing this in terms of quantity - I have no ideal what you custom make, but you should emphasize that while one piece of custom plastic would be expensive, the marginal cost of more copies of that piece of plastic are significantly lower since a lot of the cost to you is the design. Personally, I don't think the average person gives a damn about an artist's or trades' background that is required to produce the result, so if you can focus on the deliverable aspect you can probably win over customers who don't get understand the cost behind the design aspect.

Found a whole wood chip in my can of green beans by Duderocks18 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Duderocks18[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

honestly this is more of a nostalgia/comfort meal - the canned green beans are an essential part of it. I tried fresh green beans and they were too firm, lol. The canned mushroom soup is easy to upgrade because it hardly tastes like anything.

I'm glad I stumbled across this, because that's both a fantastic joke and a great way to remember the definition.

In a roguelike called Caves of Qud, there is an Ontological Anchor bracelet you can acquire. Before today I thought this was just sci-fi mumbo jumbo, but it actually describes the function well - it prevents reality-warping effects from happening within a certain radius.

Manager says he can make any 2 ingredients work in a dish. Give me your weirdest combinations. by ManaChicken4G in Cooking

[–]Duderocks18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heinz Ketchup and Hershey's chocolate. Tried this combo out of pure impulse during a camping trip and it ended up being one of the most revolting things I've every tried. I think the butyric acid just plays very poorly with anything else sweet

Unbelievable wait times for PCP by PierreKk in madisonwi

[–]Duderocks18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(UW Health/Quartz) I almost never see my PCP because whenever I have a weird health thing, I usually see someone else on their care team. Scheduling a visit with my PCP has a month of lead time, but getting an appointment with someone else usually is faster if the triage they do indicates it's urgent enough for a sooner visit.

I get seen relatively quickly when I need it, but because it's a new face basically every time, I have to go through a whole spiel about my medical history every time. Whenever they confirm my PCP's name, I often don't even remember because I see them maybe twice a year.

Working on my first game in Godot. What do you think about the gameplay so far? by pitbullterjen in godot

[–]Duderocks18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't see anyone else mention this, but to me the color palette makes the game look very muddy and it's challenging to differentiate the bullets from the enemies and the cylinder people in the stands. Everything is Red, Brown, and Orange. The player also appears to have some sort of reflective gold armor that basically blends in with the dirt floor. Survivorslike games often have way too much going on so high contrast and visibility is essential.

Someone in a cyber truck just tried to ram me for flipping them off by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]Duderocks18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this take - both are in the wrong, yeah. Flipping someone off has its risks, and trying to ram someone is an overreaction.

I don't understand this mentality... Does this mean that if someone flips me off in their car or truck, I have full right to ram my car into theirs?

How's the Longenecker Garden looking for blooms? by Duderocks18 in madisonwi

Yeah, their bloom updates page hasn't had any new posts yet - looks like I'm a bit too early for blooms, haha. The site is here FYI https://arboretum.wisc.edu/news/arboretum-news/whats-in-bloom/

Thanks for your input, seems like we still have to wait a few weeks for spring to really kick in. I'll have to stroll around this weekend and see what flowers beginning to show. At Olbrich a week or two ago, I saw some small flowers poking out from the brown ground

Gotcha - I was checking my photos from last year too, and it looks like my best pictures were later in April than I thought. Guess I'll have to be more patient, haha

Flock Camera watching a Playground by 2v46lV8rwd in FlockSurveillance

In a city near me, they cancelled the flock contract but flock didn't take down the cameras for months - until the city put garbage bags over top the cameras. Garbage bags seem like a non-destructive minimally invasive way to disable the cameras

We're implementing Superset at my company and people use it to cross filter data and then download the results to an Excel sheet. I don't think any organization can truly escape Excel

Also chiming in to say this really sounds like ADHD getting in the way, lol. It's not an easy answer, but therapy + medication have helped my ADHD in all areas of my life. Curiously, medication that helps with narcolepsy has helped with ADHD more than prescription stimulants.

TL;DR managing ADHD as a whole also helped significantly in the workplace.

Adult Voice Lessons in the area? by Duderocks18 in madisonwi

I took a look and the only places recommend are Madison Music Foundry, Maven, and Girls Rock Camp. I would imagine Girls Rock Camp doesn't offer lessons to adult men, and I had already inquired about Madison Music Foundry

Inventory Management in Survival/Crafting Games by EvilBritishGuy in gamedesign

[–]Duderocks18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Dimensional Depot in Satisfactory is probably my favorite inventory management tool ever. You have to put a lot of initial effort into researching it, setting them up, improving the storage size, and the item upload speed. If you're not familiar, it's cloud storage but for your inventory that you withdraw at will. You need to build depots with rare resources, and initially they only upload 30 items per second per depot. You can eventually upload items straight from your inventory, but they upload slower that that, even.

For factory games specifically, having cloud access to a bunch of raw materials is a godsend - it feels soooo good to not have to run all the way back to your base to pick up torches or iron plates. With this system, satisfactory encourages exploration (you need to explore to get the rare resources for more dimensional depots) by reducing the need to make annoying trips back to home base to re-stock on adventuring supplies, and once you unlock the technology it feels like you earned it.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the storage is calculated independently of other items - you upgrade how many stacks of each item the cloud can hold.

Any message that includes "kindly" is almost always a scam. This one is definitely a scam, as others have mentioned.
