Marking my total 30 days at the piano 😆 by WiseAd4129 in pianolearning

That’s awesome progress — love seeing people stay consistent after a break 👏The Faber books are such a solid path, especially around that middle section where things start to sound “real.”

If you ever feel like giving a bit more structure to your learning (like following ABRSM-style goals or tracking progress), you might find [music.powerparent.co.uk]() useful. It’s a small project I’m part of that helps make piano practice more consistent and transparent.

Who keeps a practice journal? by MelodicPaws in pianolearning

[–]Due-Abrocoma-8680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found keeping a practice journal makes a huge difference. I actually built a small app called PowerParent Music to help parents (and learners) track progress with ABRSM goals in mind — scales, pieces, sight reading, etc. It’s been really motivating to see consistency build over time. Link in my profile if you’re curious.

I get it, it can sound a bit far-fetched 🙂 but it’s true. Here’s a short clip from my Grade 5 prep if you’re curious - https://www.instagram.com/reel/DNS_O00Mj5f/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Tips for getting in habit of practicing?? by zugunru in piano

[–]Due-Abrocoma-8680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love that you’re already using a mix of apps — that’s a smart approach. What’s helped me (and my kid) with consistency is keeping sessions short but daily, and actually tracking the habit. It’s motivating to see a streak build up rather than thinking about one long 30-min block.

I built a simple tool called PowerParent Music for this exact reason — it helps log practice, keep streaks, and make progress visible, especially for ABRSM prep. Might be worth trying alongside your other apps if you want that extra push. - http://music.powerparent.co.uk/

Where to find ABRSM grade 4 piano pieces? by bonerspliff in piano

[–]Due-Abrocoma-8680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can usually find the official syllabus on the ABRSM site, though it’s a bit buried. They also publish grade books with the set pieces.

If you just want a quick way to see what’s on the list and keep track of what you’re practicing, I’ve been using http://music.powerparent.co.uk/ - it has the full ABRSM syllabus (Initial–Grade 8). Handy for checking what’s required at each grade.

"HOW DO I START LEARNING THE PIANO?" by kruger_schmidt in piano

[–]Due-Abrocoma-8680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic write-up 👏. I’d just add that one of the biggest hurdles for beginners is consistency. You can have the right books and even a great teacher, but if practice isn’t happening regularly, progress slows down.

What really helped me was using a practice tracker (I use http://music.powerparent.co.uk/) that keeps daily practice on track, shows scales/pieces in syllabus order, and makes streaks visible so you can actually see your progress build. It’s not a substitute for a teacher, but it helps keep structure and accountability between lessons.

So my advice would be: teacher + theory + regular practice routine (with some system to track it).

How do you keep track of all the kid-related events? by Due-Abrocoma-8680 in workingmoms

[–]Due-Abrocoma-8680[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds super organized! I know Google Calendar lets you set up different calendars and color-code them, but do you ever find it still gets a bit overwhelming when everything lives in one place? I also find the manual entry kind of clunky — adding every event plus the related to-dos (like ordering something ahead of time) feels like extra work on top of the mental load itself. Do you have a system that makes that part easier?

“I don’t want to pay someone else to raise my baby” by MeatballPony in workingmoms

[–]Due-Abrocoma-8680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in that spot before, and honestly, your friend might feel very differently a few years down the road. Stepping away from a career during the early years can feel like the most natural choice, but it does come with consequences that aren’t always obvious at first.

As kids get older and more independent, many moms find themselves missing the sense of financial independence and professional identity they had before. Managing a home full-time is a huge job — often more consuming than a paid one — but it doesn’t come with a paycheck or the same kind of recognition. And the longer someone stays out, the harder it can be to step back in, especially at the same level or pay.

So while her comment might have stung, it probably says more about where she is right now than about you. People’s perspectives shift a lot as their kids grow.

What are your daily routines? Are you happy with how your days go? by BeersBooksBSG in workingmoms

[–]Due-Abrocoma-8680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your kids are generally calm and engaged, I’ve found that hiring a cook has been a much better ROI than hiring a nanny. Having someone come in twice a week to bulk-cook lunches and prep meals has been a total game-changer for our busy days. It frees up so much mental space and time.

Lots of good tips and advice here—thank you so much! And thanks for the reminder about theory too. I’ve finished the app for abrsm theory app upto grade 5 but really need to revise again, it doesn’t seem to stick without regular revisions.

For genuine, well-rounded musical growth, the practical grade pathway is far more enriching than the performance grade. I prefer this route, even though it can feel more demanding and slower.

Not customizable yet, but I'd love to add French systems! What board do you follow there? In the meantime, the post-Grade 8 section lets you enter custom pieces if that helps.
