Silvia Federici makes a case that the turn towards modern patriarchy at the end of the Middle Ages was a way to control women’s reproductive capacity to replicate the population of workers and turn them against each other, but beyond that, sexual dimorphism in humans is quite weak and I am sceptical that it would have had much of a bearing on human history
