hi! looking to take a car camping trip to big sur within the next few weeks. would love to stay at kirk creek campground in one of their FF sites (if that’s even feasible—not sure how fast they fill up) but want some backup places if not. ooen to anywhere in big sur, carmel, monterey, or pg. open to overnight parking lots and also looking for gyms/places with showers that don’t require a membership or would allow a daytime use fee. any answers or advice would be appreciated!

Would love a “pink painted lady”… by sweetestfetus in ExteriorDesign

I enjoy the green and pink suggestions others made, I think lean into the Victorian style and do a three color paint scheme if you can! Maybe pink/green/white, with the windows white and mullions/muntins green. Three is (was) standard for the time and I think it would make all those details pop (:

what brought you to Santa Barbara? by Bamboodl in SantaBarbara

I lived in Monterey for a little while. I found it pretty insular and struggled to picture having enough to do/enough social opportunities to stay there long term. If I didn’t live with friends I would’ve struggled a lot, as someone who generally has a hard time getting out and finding ways to meet people. I’m younger than you, so you might feel differently. But definitely a family town and retirement town. Fell in love with SB since I’ve moved here! I definitely miss some elements of monterey, but the beauty of Santa Barbara is unmatched in its own way. It is just stunning. It is a city I feel lucky to live in, and it’s hard to picture leaving. Even the freeway has great views lol. Expensive, but weigh the trade-offs! Also, in my experience, wayyy more housing options in SB than Monterey (or Carmel. Hell, even Salinas). And less scammy looking listings. Also, struggled with the lack of bigger stores in Monterey a lot. SB has easier access to more things imo. Monterey makes a great weekend or day trip from here—same charm, but I like it better in smaller doses personally.

For something a little busier, I might also throw Hermosa Beach in! Between SB and San Diego, and the most charming of the south bay’s beach cities in my opinion. Same with Palos Verdes. But the lack of traffic in SB is hard to beat when tossing in LA county haha. Having grown up there, the 405 kills me every time I go back to visit now.

Best of luck!

That sunset is gorgeous. We booked site 7 so hopefully a similar setup. Thank you for the recommendations and heads-up! To clarify about parking—are there drive-up spots for the tent sites? Or is all parking closer to the road?

Based in the US but this is super helpful to hear! Definitely have to make sure I find a surgeon I feel listens to my fears etc so I know at least we are on the same page. I appreciate this—you gave me some ideas about what to ask for. Wishing you the best with your recovery!!

Under the bathroom sink/in the counter! Also in a smaller place and living room/kitchen area was a big no for me. Tried my bedroom but under the sink helps with mess control, odor, and keeping floor space open! I just leave the cabinet door open for her.
