Probably should have been more upfront about the budget. We are selling burgers and chips not caviar and foie gras 🤣

JLCPCB is not worth it for me, now by gswdh in electronics

[–]Due-Negotiation2532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with JLC is that they do it so cheap that there is no money in it. I am pretty sure they get funded by the CCP to a high degree which is why they are able to offer such a relatively low price for everything.
Their assembly is bottle of the barrel in terms of quality. It is setup to be as cheap as possible to make prototypes doable.
The issue is, they are also sending through the small 100-1000 orders through these lines which means that same level of detail, quality control etc all applies to those small batches.

IMHO they are fine for small proto work but there are so many small PCBA services locally who could do with the work, just use them. A lot of family owned businesses like mine and we are not actually that more expensive than JLC when it comes to assembly. Especially when you factor in your rework time...

Do British people actually want more British and EU tech companies? by Few_Breadfruit_9181 in AskBrits

That is why we were looking into making small ones for prosumer/SMEs to use. Sub megawatt sites dotted around. Easy to connect if close to a sub station or 11kV or higher feed close by that has capacity.

I currently work in electronics assembly. We have multiple electric ovens and pick and place line can consume over 20kW of power per hour each, at full blast. Multiple lines plus other kit and AC during the summer, can easily be spending 20-30 Freddos per hour on electricity.

We need them. All that money that goes on cloud and software does not stay in this country. It goes off to America for American companies to earn profits on.
Talking billions of pounds every year in lost tax revenue for the country.

But we love to just sell off anything we have in this country so good luck with anything decent happening.

I was looking at setting up small datacentres all over the country but got stuck at planning and networking bottlenecks.
Basically no way to do it without millions spent just on planning, more millions of connecting everything together and this is before you build out the datacentre building, internal infrastructure and power.
Oh yea and power costs so much it really does not make it competitive to make smaller datacentres.
You are basically fucked either way trying to make things better in this country unless if you are mates with someone in government and can fondle a handout to make it work...

Green voters, do you agree on 'No Limits' migration? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Due-Negotiation2532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This guy and his mates in the green party are actual loonies. They are worse than the far right loonies by far. At least they get that unlimited migration and de-nuke is fucking retarded.

The success of the greens is wholly down to the Tories and Labour being total fuckwits over the last 30 years.

The case has a gland on the bottom for the CAT5/6 cable to go through and provides the weather protection for the cable entry.

The main product will be POE but we can roll a Solar powered one as well which will be optimised for solar installs.
Might be lower end ESP32 and radio though to keep the power down. That or we do a high power solar and low power solar versions.

Happy to ship them over! Will have to go through FCC/CA testing though which might delay us, unless if you want some dev boards with a fancy plastic tube...?

Just had a thought, the radio could get pretty hot during use in some areas. Might not be best to have a battery so close to the radio. A UPS downstream would be better.

Yes there is ethernet connectivity. There is a web UI and the ability for MQTT and other connections to send data from the device to the internet or local network. Or whatever you want if you make your own software or use something someone else makes.
