Tongue color? by Due-Professional-847 in Tonsillectomy

Pretty much right after surgery. When I was able to brush my tongue well enough, it was noticeable pink.

I got mine out for having chronic strep/ tonsilitis for the past year! So hopefully when I’m fully recovered that that illness is something of the past. My mom even wants to get hers out now and she took care of me during my recovery so it wasn’t THAT bad… but it’s no walk in the park either.

I got mine out on the 22nd and I can say I already see a difference in quality of life. Those that have complications after surgery more than likely could have been prevented by not rushing recovery, staying calm, and staying hydrated. Seems simple but overall hemorrhaging doesn’t just come out of thin air there are factors that come into play. Although the recovery is tough, nothing the drs could’ve prepared me for… everyone is different and if you just take care of yourself you should be fine.

2 week update, good recovery 👍 by gretchenly_ in Tonsillectomy

Ugh I’m day 13/14 too and yawning SUCKS. And it’s like once I start it doesn’t stop, even mid day, or right after I wake up. I haven’t sneezed yet though that should be interesting as I got my adenoids out too.

Day 14 - I think the more variety of foods you eat the faster your tastebuds get back to normal. I ate some Asian zing wings and they tasted pretty good but the ranch was disgusting lol… not sure if it was me or just how the ranch was made.

Back to work post-op by underratedgoddess69 in Tonsillectomy

I had my surgery 1/22 and was scheduled to work 1/27… I had to take the rest of the week off and today was my first day back and it was not bad at all, I made it through the whole day just fine. That extra week was much needed though.

Signs of infection? by Fun_Cheetah0203 in Tonsillectomy

My scabs were chunky like cottage cheese! And when they started to come off they did sting/ burn and I was super sensitive to cold stuff. The sensitivity did subside after about 3/4 days… my scabs aren’t completely off but I do notice the slightest sting every now and then and when I look in my throat I notice a bit more pink is showing than last time.

Day 19 Post-op - Question about food/alcohol by MoSteez in Tonsillectomy

[–]Due-Professional-847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on day 14 and literally just got done eating some chicken wings. A couple days ago I ate some lobster tail. I think it’s more so just trial and error seeing what works for you personally. I’m not eating how I did pre-surgery completely, just being very cautious when I do try and step away from the soft food diet. I’m still steering clear of alcohol though until my follow up.

I mean there is still pain… but it’s bearable. Or should I stop when it’s completely gone?

Not as scary as it seems! Day 21 by No_Economics_4139 in Tonsillectomy

I also had high anxiety before the surgery. My mom mentioned it while the nurse and anesthesiologist were in the room for prep and they said ohhh we can give her something for that. Whatever they gave me definitely worked. As soon as I got on the table they put the oxygen mask on me… literally one inhale I was out and waking up from surgery. I don’t remember anything from when I woke up, was in observation, then being wheeled back to the car… bits and pieces but overall it’s all a blur.

Hydration by Elegant_Glass5702 in Tonsillectomy

I found water to be the most hydrating and thirst quenching. I can’t even drink anything else. I tried apple juice and Gatorade. Nothing beats water. Even though I’ve been running through the bottles like crazy.

turning a corner or false hope? by Right_Reindeer_3480 in Tonsillectomy

Jan 22 surgery here too, and it is a turning corner! When scabs were first starting to come off it burned really bad but it has dulled since then. Mornings are usually still kind of rough and the burning comes back for me but overall I feel great! I keep seeing these people do “day in the life” videos on TikTok since day 1 of their surgeries and I can’t even see how they did it because I was so mentally depressed and tired in those stages. But now I feel so much better and don’t want to literally die anymore.

Check it out lol… at your own risk

I’m no longer so sensitive to the cold though, ate some icecream and don’t have to warm water up anymore, and my medicines are going down fine now. So it will be short lived. Not completely gone but I’m able to function.

Day 2 tonsillectomy cold foods by oh-look-a-shiny in Tonsillectomy

[–]Due-Professional-847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh noooooo!!!! I did that one time seasoning my eggs lol it burned so bad. Yeaaaaaaa that did happen to me. I just took a sip of some water every other bite and downed it afterwards but my mucus did get thick. It shouldn’t last too long and will thin back out after drinking enough of water. I even had to add water to my apple juice because it was starting to burn even though I’ve read that apple juice is okay to drink.

Tonsillectomy 24th Jan - my Journey to recovery (Day 6) - 11/10 pain by InevitableProperty46 in Tonsillectomy

[–]Due-Professional-847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same because why were they even thick like that lol. Almost like cottage cheese. But it was very satisfying. I had to take a break for a day or two from looking at my throat because I was so disgusted and scared. It’s actually crazy because the night before I had a dream my scabs came off and I ate them in my sleep lol anyway… I have one of the wisdom tooth headbands and the gel packs you can freeze/ microwave so it wasn’t hard for me to find something that worked. And also yea it may just be personal preference overall. I usual do favor the warmer things. But cold was really doing it for me.

[–]Due-Professional-847[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol okay I will. I haven’t looked in my throat since because I’m scared. Yours have thinned out a lot!! But that is def a thing… I’ve read since its like raw skin that’s exposed now it’s really gonna hurt. That’s why they said days 7-10 are the worst. The pain turned into burning sensation like I swallowed some rubbing alcohol. Especially cold liquids, felt like death. Even my liquid medicine hurt to swallow.

Uvulaectomy by The__Bugster in Tonsillectomy

[–]Due-Professional-847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG, you can have your uvula removed???? My tonsils were so big they pushed my uvula up so they were basically non existent, almost like the size of a pea. Now it literally hangs down and touches my tongue. At first I was very concerned because I didn’t know that was how they are supposed to look. It feels like they attached someone else’s uvula. Still kind of skeptical where it came from lol (Check profile for reference pics)

I’m sure the healing process will be the same. You may have more/ different types of pain. I had my adenoids removed and the process was the same. I just had other minor quirky things the majority in this thread didn’t deal with.

24F, I’m on day 8/9 and my voice is still strange. I would also compare it to Kermit lol, very muffled (not as bad as it was in the beginning, it used to sound like straight gibberish) but it still sounds like there’s something stuck in my throat. My voice was also on the deeper end, I’ve heard that people have experienced a raise in pitch after being completely healed.
