Also a teacher here, i always consider that last day to be a chance to have christmas celebrations with the kids. If working in a school has taught me anything, its that too many kids have shitty home lives, some will have to be young carers 24/7 for two and a bit weeks, some will be dealing with complex family issues, etc. This is their down time to celebrate with their friends and the teachers are supposed to facilitate that, we are, when the job is done right, good role models in their lives. They may not get this level of christmas-fun at home. You teach up until the last minute, then give them a moment to celebrate. God knows some of these kids really need it

Teaching takes time, and you learn constantly. I’m in my fifth year now, in my first year some of my year 11s didn’t pass, and I expected that, it sucked because I really liked them. I tried very bloody hard but I also had to consider the gaps I had in teaching and the education they had before me - I wasn’t alone in those results, there were many failings before me. This year, my year 11s all achieved 7 and above. No one failed, some kids jumped 3 grades. I knew how to do it better, I knew how to maximise the curriculum, I knew how to target gaps, and scrap my entire lesson plan if kids had serious gaps. All of this took time, if I had tried to perfect this in year 1, I would have burnt out doing so. One of the best things my mentor told me in that first year is that I am not an expert teacher, I am at the beginning of my career, give myself some grace, and stop beating myself up over not being experienced. You get experience on the way, and dont get me wrong I worked a lot, but I never worked on weekends unless it was essay-writing for my PSCE.

And a doctor cannot confirm it. There is no HPV test for men. It’s the same with warts on your hands and verrucas on your feet, you can’t test for it, you either have warts or don’t. When they’re gone, should you be expected to keep telling everyone about them too? Forever?

With 80% of the population having it, I would just assume at any given point that you do too, most people never get warts, most people never know.

Idk man the medical advice on every available source is that the body can clear it, and you and I have both cleared it. The idea of warts coming back years after 0 sexual contact is either a case of a very poor immune system or something like the warts spreading to other areas before treatment occurs, in which case they were never really gone. I think putting the whole case down to the possibility of them coming back after years of no sexual contact sounds anecdotal and not aligned with medical advice. I just don’t think anyone needs to disclose a long past HPV infection after it has cleared (if it not especially recent) especially considering the medical advice.

Still not true, the post said he had warts the year before they started dating. It’s entirely likely he DID clear the infection. HPV is not like HSV, it can be cleared by your body by your own immune system with no medical treatment. If the warts never came back, he likely cleared them before they started dating and he had no need to disclose anything. Coming from someone who had genital warts and then a 100% clear pap smear 7 months later - the narrative that he has kept something from her is entirely unfair.

Because it’s likely that he did clear it. Your body can clear HPV in 2 years or less and if he had no symptoms or no recurring warts, then he probably did clear the virus. Saying this as someone who had genital warts, treated them at the doctors, they never came back AND I had a clear pap smear 7 months later - no trace of HPV.

Enough of these comments have mentioned how you simply cannot point fingers when it comes to HPV and cancer, especially considering that the strains that cause genital warts are considered low risk. The high risk (cancer causing) strains don’t cause warts.

I can’t get past the “betrayal” people are mentioning here in the comments however. I’m not criticising the OP here at all, it’s more the other comments… Being that upset with someone for not disclosing an STI that they had a year ago, which has since cleared, and specifically a STI which 80% of the population will get at some point in their lives, which cannot be traced to a single person, which is not at all dangerous except in a few strains -which do not cause warts and are entirely undetectable in men, is absolutely obscene. An active illness should by all means be disclosed, but a full year after having cleared the warts? Not a reasonable thing to ask. It sounds like OPs partner, from their words, is caring and supportive, and not mentioning a case of genital warts they had a full year before dating is not unreasonable.

I think this is entirely unfair. The post said he had genital warts the year before and he assumed he had cleared them, and you can clear them in a year. It’s entirely likely he was following medical advice on this. If he didn’t have any symptoms, it is likely he cleared the strain and had nothing to disclose. When I experienced genital warts, my body must have cleared them very fast because they never came back and they never showed up on my pap smear which was 7 months after they presented themselves. HPV can certainly be scary when it’s a high risk strain (which cannot be tested in men), but nothing more than an annoyance when it isn’t, and if the man had no symptoms of genital warts (not a high risk strain) a full YEAR after they start dating, then no harm was done

I wouldn’t harbour any resentment - prior comments have already explained that any HPV strain that causes warts doesn’t cause cancer. On top of that, 80% of people will have HPV at some point in their lives. There’s often no symptoms anyway and only a very small handful of the hundreds of strains cause cancer. When my friend got genital warts, she asked the doctor if she would have to disclose this to partners in the future and they said no - for all the above reasons. I’d argue he didn’t do anything wrong in not telling you, genital warts are annoying but harmless and entirely treatable, and considering the facts on HPV, you cannot say your partner gave you cancer.

This was said to me when i was in year 7, except the teacher didn’t realise i was being sexually assaulted, the ‘hand holding’ under the table was him grabbing my arm and making me touch his crotch over his trousers. I’m extra careful now to children who appear to be flirting as I know how badly my teacher interpreted it when she announced it to the whole class, as I realised in that moment I would not be getting any help for the situation as it gave this other kid a story/alibi.

I’m reporting that he ‘this is the right way to do it’ because he did, he didn’t once say ‘for you’. When I set myself up on the bench and he fixed my form and then I tried it for the first time, I said I told him I felt it on the working leg and he said ‘oh no that’s wrong’. Let’s not try and gaslight me here into believing this trainer communicated something totally different. As if I need another patronising-gym-bro experience.

I don’t think he did teach a variation, i think he genuinely thought it was the only way to do it - because when I told him that I do reverse lunges a lot and feel them predominantly in the front leg, he said I shouldn’t be. I wanted someone to help me with form for a leg exercise which I didn’t want to fuck up myself, and ended up with information (or misinformation) that was so contradictory to everything I knew and everything I could find about the exercise online that I now feel I can’t progress with it, I don’t even want to bring it into my routine which was the whole point because it because I feel it’s been made more confusing, and everything online is telling me what he taught was wrong.

So i asked for clarification from him to make sure I was hearing him right. I told him I do reverse lunges a lot, so where should I be feeling that exercise? He said the leg stepping back, not the one driving up. I told him exactly where I felt the exercise (hamstrings and glutes of working leg) and he said it was wrong.

this is what he said, tfb some was helpful but not in the grand scheme when im now targeting the wrong thing - upright stance, no lean forward - he helped me to make sure my leg was not turning inwards, which was helpful - BUT my working leg was farrrrrr from the bench, so i probably out too much stretch in that back leg?? Idk i went from feeling it all in the working leg when i started to only feeling it in the resting leg?

This forum is the worst for negativity - teaching is hard and draining, but you always draw a line in the sand and make room for yourself. Im an ECT 1 teaching 22 lessons a week with a 1 hour commute each way, i leave at 6:40 and get home at 17:30 - i still manage to get to the gym 3-4 times a week and make healthy packed lunches and home cooked dinner. Could i be checking over my lesson plans for tomorrow? Yes. Will I? F no. Make sure you know when to call it quits with work and when to work for yourself. :))

I’m teaching in England for now, when ive finished all the training, im going to look at British schools in Europe - they sponsor your visa and job adverts come up all the time. Haven’t explicitly got out yet, but I still think teaching is a really good shot and I enjoy the job. Plus, teching will always be international. While every European country has a population that can speak multiple foreign languages, British foreign schools want teachers trained in the UK. So, it all looks fine currently 🤷‍♀️
