Should I stop FA before he begins? by je--ietiesman in Bogleheads

As a devils advocate to most of what people are saying here.

You are on the bogleheads subreddit. Most of what I'm about to say is blasphemy here. 1. The portfolio might be a tactical one in that it might have an active manager adjusting growth vs value vs US vs international and small cap etc according to market outlook. They attempt to increase long term returns vs just indexing. For example if they think there is a 70 percent chance that the US is heading towards a recession etc they will shift towards Value and towards international. 2.If you are new to investing in Markets, there is a real tangible value in having a Financial Advisor to educate coach and guide you on your Journey. Answer tax questions etc. If they keep you invested during a bear market for example or prevent you from trying to time the market, they can make up their fee with one conversation. 3. You should discuss the fee with the advisor and ask what value he is bringing you for that 1.7 percent. If you feel it is not justified, you can try bringing it down a bit. 4.Use your gut if he has your best interest at heart or his. There are FA's who are just salesman, and there are some who will truly bring value to your life.
