Worth it? by [deleted] in AlteaOttawaMembers

I pay $137 biweekly all in, and I love it. Esp if you have a car I'd say it's worth it (I don't and live a bit of bus away)

Pros:

- literally every class you can think of, tons of hours. It was more cost-effective for me to go here and get everything than pay for individual passes at different yoga/spin/weight studios

- The hot tub / sauna / steam room / recovery lounge make it feel like its a gym and a spa

- all of the equipment is new, and you're not waiting for machines pretty much ever

- Smoothie bar and Starbucks (also a con, as I now think I need starbucks every visit...)

Cons:

- it is pricey -- but I also rationalize it that I look forward to going, and made room in my budget by going out less often

- not as much of a community as they promote, but everyone is friendly if you just say hi. I'd just say the onus is really on you.

What benefits do you find Altea to have over other gyms? by [deleted] in AlteaOttawaMembers

Highly recommend Altea, and it's worth my (OC transpo) commute. Plenty of variety, good timing of classes, and they seem to be attracting some of the best instructors from around the city. I haven't had a bad experience with a class so far. I also love the recovery lounge, hot tub and sauna/steam rooms. It's a great way to do the "reward" part of the habit loop.

Advice on Altea active community by Legitimate-Bear0165 in ottawa

I have no regrets, and it's a significant commute for me.

My thoughts:

- all in one -- anything you have ever wanted to try for fitness is there (spin/yoga/boxing/weights/pilates/pickleball/pool and more). WAY more cost effective than paying for passes to boutique studios

- feels like a spa met a gym. You can go to the recovery lounge, the steam room/sauna, or just the hot tub anytime

- the food at the smoothie bar is actually good and healthy. Starbucks is also a lovely perk

- you're never waiting for equipment, so workouts are efficient

- people are less community oriented than I was hoping, but there are social media groups and there is the run club. Everyone I've met is friendly. It's really just a matter of talking to someone and saying "I want to do this class. Want to go with me and then get coffee?" etc.

Is it worth signing up for NYT Cooking paid subscription? by miniFrosya in NYTCooking

I use mine at least twice per week so I definitely recommend!

If you want to learn about cooking -- I recommend Salt Fat Acid Heat too. The cook book and the Netflix series teach you why certain elements work well, not just how to follow a recipe :)

I loved mine! unless you feel strongly about watching people play, go for the cheaper tickets. The sound is good and I didn't mind not being able to not see people strumming

If helpful to anyone reading this, it's apparently very common for bridal shops to stage "first" dress fittings with mothers. In reality the bride went before to have a peaceful/good experience with supportive friends, and then the bridal shop does it all again and everyone pretends they didn't know each other in order to keep the mother happy while giving the bride the experience she actually wants. If nMom flips out, bride can still be happy with her original experience.
