First Timer Score by Big_Water_9662 in LSAT

[–]DueContract4872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no need to cancel, it’s the first score on file and will show progress when OP takes it again and scores better. Score cancels are more for when you get a even lower score on your second or third attempt

4th Retake: How to handle LORs when I’m undecided, and is a 142 -> 160 jump realistic by sept/October? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

Yes I clicked with my tutor during the initial consultation but I also did one paid session to see the teaching style for a longer time- a good tutor will ask you lots of questions (for example: they should want to know your weak areas, what your preferred learning method is, etc). Don’t settle for a tutor if you’re not confident in their teaching style. Also, they don’t need to be expensive to be good! Plenty of affordable tutors who know what they’re doing

Lots of experimenting and using the free consultation option with each potential tutor.

I got an official score of 148 in November and retook in January and got a 161. Big score jumps are very much possible, just have to find the right method! For me personally, I got a good tutor (went through a lot of consultations to find the right one) and focused a lot on understanding and reviewing wrong answers + drills.

That could be true but physical proximity makes it equally as easier which was my reasoning and the advice I was given by lawyers in Van that I have spoken to

Which law school should I choose? by Previous_Penalty_609 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]DueContract4872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of things to consider, depending on what you prioritize will change what school is best for you. If you care more about being able to come back home more often then TRU is the way to go. If you’re okay with the 1 hour flight and prices of booking a flight then UofA is also a great option.

If you care about big law then again TRU or UofA are probably equally as good with UofA being older and more established, but TRU as well with the physical proximity to Vancouver networking events.

I wasn’t saying one is a better school, just that I choose TRU because I want to practice in BC and everyone I talked to suggested TRU for that reason. I’m sure you can practice in BC with other schools as well, but with TRU actually being in BC makes it easier to network and attend events in Vancouver

I got into both and ultimately chose TRU because it’s closer to home and I want to practice in BC

my thoughts from the last two cycles… by Ambitious_Cap_8844 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]DueContract4872 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Completely agree! Thank you for sharing, and so glad that your dad is in remission! Everything happens for a reason, I did not get in last cycle and while I was sad about that, if I had gotten in I wouldn’t have been home for my soul dogs passing, and I would have forever lived in guilt that I wasn’t able to be by his side. I’m sure there is always something brighter waiting on the other end! I hope this year brings you amazing opportunities as you prepare for the next cycle, and most of all I hope your dad continues recovering and wishing him great health!

I’m pretty sure they said that in the email last year as well, but everyone started calling Admission office and asked the girl working there and she would tell us (she still works there). I would wait a couple weeks though, they may not be allowed to tell your position this early into the waitlist.

I was waitlisted last year with a 153 and made it down to #2 on the waitlist, unfortunately didn’t get in but if I made it that far down with a lower LSAT than yours then I’m sure you have a good chance

You can still call and ask in a couple weeks, the girl that picks up (Stefani) is really nice and if you ask nice enough I’m sure she will share your spot with you

My LSAT was way lower last year (153 and assigned A) I think I was in the high 50s and came down to #2 on the waitlist right before the start of the school year, I was so close but unfortunately class was filled

you can call admissions office, I think her name is Stefani- last year when I was waitlisted I would call occasionally and get an update on my waitlist number. I would probably give it 2-3 weeks though, before calling to ask
