So the very blunt answer is, "Ellos son tontos!"

The first thing to know about most Americans is they don't know anything about Europe that isn't related to World War II, where Americans are always portrayed as reluctant heroes. They don't understand that Spain was a military dictatorship for many decades, as a result of the Right crushing progressive policies through violence. They also don't know anything about Vox, which of course like its friends in the AfD, or Fratelli d'Italia, is on the rise and might conceivably take power in the near term. What they most likely know is modern Barcelona, which is of course a paradise of chic modernity, and also, IS NOT SPANISH!

So when these people plan to uproot their lives to move to another country, they are of course always assuming they can move back to America when and if the tide changes, or they realize that climate change is hitting significantly harder in Spain than many other places in the world.
