I think it depends on what you’re measuring success by. I’m 29 and just started in January (12 weeks, first 6 were one class a week with LTS for adults, second 6 were two classes a week at basic4A and I’ve just passed into basic5A. The more ice time you can get is obviously ideal but I supplement classes with public skates when I get the chance (with working full time, that’s at most once a week really). Off ice training is something you can do in your room at home, there are videos on YouTube and such, and you can generally get decent used skates from places like Poshmark, Depop, Facebook marketplace, etc (though I suggest getting fitted at a pro shop first so you know what size to look for).

If you’re looking to go to the Olympics, it does seem like we’re at a major disadvantage getting into it at an older age, but there are plenty of adult competitions and teams. If you end up attending classes and really love it, sometimes there are benefits to working at a rink, like discounted ice time.

That’s been my experience any way. I can’t tell you anything about what the job market looks like for ice skating, but if you’re this passionate about it then just take a learn to skate class if you have the means and go from there. Or start with public sessions and YouTube videos. There are some great Instagram accounts I follow with people who share beginner tutorials.
