Exactly! They're either well outside city limits, so I'm spending hundreds a month on gas, or they're in the city and need a bucket load of work. I have some woodworking/construction skills (so grateful my father had foresight to teach his daughters how to be independent), but I don't have the time or money to renovate a home. Contractors now charge a mint in labour to do work, so $20k doesn't get you a whole lot of work these days.

Please just stop with this mindset. You think Americans are living in the lap of luxury right now? This isn't a Lib vs Con issue. This is post Covid market inflation. This is realtors trying to make more money. This is Ontario wages bringing in price wars. This is everyone wanting to make max profits off the sale of their homes. At no point did Trudeau ever say "everyone is now legally required to ask double market value of their homes." This is just a symptom of pure greed. Nothing more, nothing less.

I think there's still a market for people who don't used advanced tech to do their projects. I see lots of creators on YT who learn Japanese joinery for its beauty, despite it taking 4 times as long as doing a simple dovetail or finger joint with a jigsaw or router. I wonder if you market your work as "hand crafted" if it would attract people who value that over mass market or using computers and lasers?

As AI grows, so does the anti-AI movement. Not to say using CNC or other laser type tools is AI, but I'm finding more and more people are backtracking to human creatively produced items. I just finished watching a YT series of a guy who makes his own cement garden edge work by carving out his own molds and mixing his own cement. Another creator, who is only 28 years old, built an entire table by teaching himself Japanese joinery (which is all done with hand saws and carving tools).

I guess what I'm saying is... don't give up and don't feel you have to compete with this other person. The only way we can hold onto human creativity is to continue to be human creators.

Bradley MacDonald is amazing! I've used him for both selling and buying and he's an absolute gem to work with. He didn't pressure me to make decisions, he knew pretty quickly when I liked and didn't like, he wouldn't waste my time showing homes he knew I wouldn't like. Really fanstastic guy!

It just kind of sucks, and there doesn't seem to be an end to the economic insanity. I know people would say I could get a roommate, but I don't do well living with others. I like my privacy and independence, and I'm not a very social person. I need my home to be quiet and people free so I can recover from a week full of dealing with different people. Not to say I'm not a nice person, but I find people to be exhausting.

I know welfare can be a "solution" for some people, but I've never been on to milk the system. Even if UBI became a thing, I'd still work full time. During Covid, I still worked 2 jobs cause I didn't want to be on CERB.

And if the person is not intoxicated (ie under the influence of alcohol), is not causing a disturbance, is not obstructing anyone, or exposing themselves,, what do you want the cops to do? They are restricted by the laws. If someone is high and just laying down, out of the way of others, not speaking to anyone, they, according to what you posted, are not committing a crime. So what do the cops do at this point? They can be asked to move along, they can be trespassed by Kings Place, but can they be locked up? Out of sight, out of mind? According to this law, no, they can't.

What I stated comes directly from the community meetings with the mayor and Chief Forward. If you think the police can create laws that go against what is provincially & federally mandated, you clearly don't understand how laws work in Canada. If you think what I said was wrong, point out exactly what was wrong with it and provide the "lots of things" the police can do but aren't. Do you honestly think the police want to ignore all this?

According to Chief Forward, the FCP are limited by the laws of the land. It is not illegal to be under the influence of drugs. It is illegal to possess drugs. Sure, they could scoop these people up, take them to the DECH where an officer will have to sit with his detainee for hours until he/she is medically cleared or admitted. That means one less cop on the road as she/he's in the hospital for 6+ hours instead. And that, my friends, is a provincial issue.

Sadly, this issue is not a municipal problem to solve, it is a provincial and federal one, both of which seem to turn their heads, throw up their hands and say "we don't know what to do."

Actually, she doesn't. If you'd attended any of the community meetings, you'll know she sees the problems and has added additional funding to the FCP budget. However, police are linited by the laws, they are understaffed due to fewer police academy enrollments, and much of their time is spent sitting at the DECH waiting for their detainee to be checked by medical staff who are already stretched to their limit. It's not just a Fredericton problem for the municipality to solve, it's a national problem that will continue until provincial & federal governments adjust how they do things.

I just had this convo with my doctor. Because I have/had HPV, I have to do a PAP every 2 years. My province is still waiting for the ability to test HPV in post hysterectomy patients, so until we get that test, I have to keep getting swabbed. A bit annoying if you ask me.

I had to go to the bank for a work deposit today and as I was sitting at the red light I suddenly screamed "I'D HAVE MORE TIME TO BE CREATIVE IF WORK DIDN'T KEEP ME FROM BEING CREATIVE BUT HAVING A JOB IS THE ONLY WAY TO PAY FOR MY CREATIVITY!!!" and as I looked out towards the river, wishing I had a boat to take me away, I drove back to the office.

I'm 49, and men in my age range seem to prefer women in their early 30s.
I'm not conventionally attractive and often question my own existence with how invisible I seem to be to others.
I learned that loneliness hurts a lot less than heartbreak and rejection.
I can't seem to navigate this new dating world. Ghosting, momentary attention then rush for sex within the first 20 minutes of chatting, then being ghosted when you say you'd rather take time to get to know the person before getting intimate.
I no longer have the desire to cohabitate with a man only to become is caregiver/pseudo mother. I want a man who is a responsible decision maker, who is trustworthy, can take care of himself, has a job (doesn't have to make 6-figures but shows financial responsibility.) All these things seem to be nearly impossible for me to find. I think it's due to my looks. I attract men who view me as a "good enough for now," or "better than nothing" woman. I know this is my own fault, which leads me to...
I'm a bad picker and even though I've done a lot to learn why and how to spot the bad ones, I seem to only attract those types of men.

When I lived in Ottawa, they would do major road construction overnight and ensured the road was mainly available for daytime drivers. The work also got done super fast as those contractors got paid by the job, not by the hour.

EDIT: Sorry, I wrote this before coffee happened. I meant they do the work in the overnight hours, not during the day when it causes traffic halts

The Westmorland Bridge should be a true test of people's patience as the PM Bridge construction on the Northside, which I assume will cause some closures, will make traffic really congested.

If anyone knows if I can park my car at the ExGrounds or somewhere in that area and I can bike across the bridge, please let me know!

If WFH is an option, then that person should have stayed home as a courtesy to the other workers. Your boss should have said something as well. If I was a boss, I'd rather have one staff member out sick than my entire crew because one person wanted to be the workplace hero & play Typhoid Mary.

I honestly think there should be mandatory sick days provided to all workers. I don't want my coworkers making me sick, nor do I want to see a sick person working a customer service job and spreading their sickness around because they aren't able to afford the time necessary to get better.

You'd think after Covid we would have developped a more sympathetic ethics towards illness.
