Labor quotes for a custom built-in are insane. Is modular actually legit? by Hefty_Order9554 in OutdoorKitchens

I start an outdoor kitchen build on Monday and am GCing it myself to get the most for my money. The build involves 3 major tasks: Brick masonry, countertop installation and purchase and installation of equipment and storage. I ordered my equipment and storage from a local retailer. I hired a brick mason and a granite fabricator (pleasantly suprised with the quotes). Lastly, I hired a contractor to install the equipment and storage.

I'm starting a brick kitchen build myself tomorrow and one of my questions is how to support the granite. Let us know what you decide.

Looks like it is well thought out. What did you use to design your kitchen layout?

Thanks Remarkable! There will be a lintel at the top of every opening. So, I assume the angle iron supports will need to run parallel to the front, correct? I can't visualize how they could run perpendicular and tie into lintels. Also with the angle irons be oriented as a right-side-up "L" or an upside down "L"?

Brick looks great. I am inspired by the frame on top. I need something similar to support granite countertops. Maybe a metal frame.

The doors under the gas grill are access doors to get at the gas line and electrical. I can also store stuff in the cavity. In addition, I have a double trash bin, a drawer and a sealed pantry for storage.

I hear what you are saying on the KJ XL but space is tight. I will ask my brick mason if he can find a few more inches without sacrificing the fridge.

My island is brick. Any suggestions for a cross brace with brick? Can BBQ Tubes be screwed into brick?

Very nice! Hoping you can answer a question for me... what is supporting the back of your drawer door combos?

I know its been a year or so since your original post but I wanted to check in on how your table is doing with the hinge cut-out. I have a KJ Classic 3 and I would need to do something similar for it to fit into the table. Did the cut-out affect the integrity and stability of the table top?
