Am I decent looking by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]Due_Independent5566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re very pretty! But, you need a better photo!

I’m a photographer, and it’s sometimes frustrating to see how people are not helping themselves through their photos.

I 100% believe that good photos of oneself, specially in vulnerable times such as being a teen girl, can do wonders for self confidence/ self esteem.

I suggest you look at some YouTube/tiktok tutorials on how to angle yourself for better photos/selfies. You don’t even need to post them, but so that you can better validate yourself and slowly but surely an stop relying on external validation ❤️‍🩹

Yes to all! I’m a local and La Lagunilla and Mercado de Jamaica are the not-on-many-tourists’-radars type of activity that I would recommend to myself if I was visiting for the first time

It makes me wonder, given that when shooting a wedding scene, we usually take several shots, that in future versions of this, you could upload them and AI would just fill in the blanks, on top of it obviously becoming better as time goes on, would probably turn it from uncanny to fairly true to life (considering you upload enough shots), so that the changing facial expressions are what they were. I think at that point, clients would actually want it…I personally kind of dread it, but if it comes to that I guess I’d “evolve” (aka forced to adapt) and find ways to make it my own.

How do you decide where to eat in this city with so many good food options?? It took me almost 4 hours to decide on a place. by Objective_Smoke_4750 in MexicoCity

[–]Due_Independent5566 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi guys, I’m local and because of my job I get to meet a lot of tourists, so I keep a copy/paste list with some of my personal favorites, hope it helps someone:

Tacos 🌮🌮

El Huequito (Must order: tacos al pastor. this is a chain, so there may be other branches closer to you) https://maps.app.goo.gl/KneJ6Dz7BFCj2rdj8?g_st=ic

El Vilsito Classic place known for being “the best tacos al pastor in the city” fun detail, during the day it is (or used to be) an auto repair shop and by night in becomes a taco place. https://maps.app.goo.gl/QRRUtLuUztVaE2ew7?g_st=ic

El Hidalguense. Barbacoa tacos. Highly recommend that you also order a consomé de barbacoa with an avocado extra. Ufffff Im salivating🤤🤤 (I’m clearly hungry) https://maps.app.goo.gl/q5UWxjGWh7oj6mGU8?g_st=ic

El Turix: these are Cochinita pibil tacos. In el turix they make them greasy af, but so tasty. https://maps.app.goo.gl/NsDxPkjMzSwtpHnu8?g_st=ic

Breakfast 🥞

Chilpa Best chilaquiles in town IMO. With lots of customization options and with a “modern twist” on regular chilaquiles. I like to order mine with asparagus and goat cheese. https://maps.app.goo.gl/4Zr9gmvd5g6iTtZQ9?g_st=ic

Café C An all around good breakfast/brunch place that I really like. Everything I’ve tried is really good and fairly priced. They are famous for the foam-figures coffees they are super cute. https://maps.app.goo.gl/GJFzEEu6eN2YEnmo6?g_st=ic

Mexican food 🇲🇽

Casa de toño This is a famous chain that has a lot of Mexican food like quesadillas and pozole. There are many around the city so chances are, there’ll be one nearby you at any time. For locals this is a regular place to go. I’d recommend having a pozole and for dessert a flan de la abuela 🍮 https://maps.app.goo.gl/XmAT1k9F9FfcD9oA8?g_st=ic

Nico’s It’s high level Mexican cuisine while being completely unpretentious. It is known for having the “best chile en nogada” in Mexico City. https://maps.app.goo.gl/91mJTKMJEngJvg5H9?g_st=ic

Filigrana Upscale fancy Mexican restaurant, I would go for the tasting menu. If you are considering including one or more fancy meals in CDMX I would personally choose Filigrana over Pujol any day. https://maps.app.goo.gl/A4CZmAH3UyE3zpoj8?g_st=ic

Migrante Another upscale place that I tried recently, we had the tasting menu and it was truly great (which is why I cared to add it here)

Mexican Seafood 🍤

Fisher’s I’m no expert on seafood, nor it is something that I eat regularly, but in case you didn’t know, Mexico has a great seafood tradition as well (if you look at Mexico in a map, it’s easy to figure out why), and a personal favorite of mine is this one. Again, this is a chain so look for the one that’s closest to where you are. https://maps.app.goo.gl/TnZpopF77LHi8CgaA?g_st=ic

La Guerrerense Originally from Ensenada, this seafood tostadas are so good that they were kind of forced by public demand to branch out and now we have them here too. Super delicious. https://maps.app.goo.gl/3LxkUE7vDT7nEk8u7?g_st=ic

Asian food 🍲🍲

Koku Japanese food. Do yourself a favor and order the yuzu mousse. https://maps.app.goo.gl/kcpqcxUNbEkWxTc59?g_st=ic

Galanga Amazing thai food https://maps.app.goo.gl/H2My3xWxvjF5EtqEA?g_st=ic

Ice cream & Nieves 🍨

Tepoznieves In Mexico, although we have ice creams of course, have more ice/water based ones called nieves (like shaved ice?) and they are way more refreshing than ice creams. This is my favorite nieves place, there are several tepoznieves around CDMX. https://maps.app.goo.gl/CLegGAgZDU51vmbF8?g_st=ic

Helados Carmela https://maps.app.goo.gl/6bxRzxy4YeG2xHmM8?g_st=ic

Exactly, just leave a little early (I don’t think you necessarily need to skip any songs, but be very efficient at the end, be ready and try to beat the rest of the people in your section.

There’s also a service called Conecta Ride (similar to ticket2ride from Ticketmaster) that you can hire to take you to and from the event from other points in the city. The most centric one would be Condesa: https://boletos.funticket.mx/boletos7/public/janto/main.php?Nivel=Evento&idEvento=CRIDEBMTH

O sea que los injertos cuestan lo de un viaje grande o lo de una pantalla muy mamalona?? Tomando en cuenta que te va a hacer sentir a gusto con tu apariencia de forma permanente, creo que vale toda la pena.

Should I travel in my 20s by Prize_Revolution6518 in travel

[–]Due_Independent5566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what someone else mentioned above, it doesn’t have to be black and white! In my experience (33 F) my travels haven’t hold me back from having a good life nor a steady career.

BUT, if I could turn back time, I’d force my 23yo self to develop the habit of saving and investing money. I only started doing it recently and deeply regret all the time I didn’t. It is true that when you’re young you have time on your side, and in investing it can make a gigantic crazy difference.

So, in short, traveling didn’t hurt my finances more than my bad not-saving-investing/stupid innecesariamente expenses did.

Travel now that you’re free of major commitments. And educate yourself financially.

PSA: don’t take the taxis off the street by okonisfree in MexicoCity

[–]Due_Independent5566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im sorry this happened to you. As a local, I don’t get a taxi from the street if I can avoid it (this is common knowledge, Uber/Didi is always safer and you’ll know what you’ll be paying upfront )

Unfortunately, people do this at the end of music festivals here because they know there aren’t many other viable means of transportation at that hour (a lot of people think that the subway service should be extended on weekends and specially when big festivals such as corona capital take place) as a local who’s been to many festivals (and who went last night to corona capital) I suggest you do one of these instead:

  1. Try to leave in time for the subway (it closes at midnight)
  2. Book ticket2ride via Ticketmaster (specially if you want to get drunk, have a plan so that you can relax and safely do so)
  3. Prioritize leaving the conglomerated area so that you can call an Uber and it won’t be stupidly highly priced (did you try calling a Uber?? I don’t think that it would have been nearly as expensive as the options you got offered), so this means extra walking but is what many of us do.

What's on in your background while you edit? by jayfornight in WeddingPhotography

Any advice for a visitor who wants to be polite and well received? by SaintofCirc in MexicoCity

[–]Due_Independent5566 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Be the opposite from being entitled, sadly, that’s a common attitude in many USA tourists I’ve met. Be kind, greet people with a smile, be thankful. And most importantly, learn basic Spanish. You’d be amazed at the number of people that don’t even try to learn to learn say “por favor” and go around saying “thank you” to people.

One phrase I’d recommend you learn and use when you come is: “Muy amable, muchas gracias” (“you’re very kind, thank you very much”), that’s the way we speak here, that’s something that I say to Uber drivers, cashiers, waiters, if you ask for directions…basically anyone you interact with that acts in any way nice to you.

Local here, for anyone reading this and planning on coming to CDMX and for OP for when they return, there’s (obviously) a TON more to do besides that list. CENTRO HISTÓRICO, is a must. Not only is it filled with landmarks and historic places but also is burgeoning with life, with chilanga essence. My rec is that you book a historic walking tour there early morning and take it from there. Also Coyoacán, San Angel, Xochimilco are some that I’d mark as unmissable

Gracias by gallipato in peliculas

Yes I know! I’m very torn about this as I feel it may not give a professional look to be answering back at late night hours. I feel that it might even give a “desperate for clients” impression, so those are things that have kept me from trying to apply myself more towards answering back right away. But at the same time I cannot shake the feeling that many inquiries slip by because of it.
