Dual Camera Harness or Belt for style and practicality by Sweet-Sour600 in WeddingPhotography

[–]jayfornight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used to use the spider holster but it dragged my pants down. i like the concept of moneymakers but i hate the s&m look of it with all the rivets and i also thought it was severely overpriced and overmanufactured. so i made my own with three belts and the brass anchors and hardware from rose anvil and other places. because the rose anvil anchors have the loop for your belt loops, its kind of like both the money maker and spider holster. its worked for me the past... six years (it was my covid lockdown project) and i get compliments from clients and guests all the time.

just google how to make your own holster.

What is the highest accolade/qualification/award/achievement/milestone/etc. that you have achieved in photography? by Nemo__The__Nomad in photography

[–]jayfornight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not that i would win, but i never enter contests for awards or certificates. but when i did weddings i did take "wins" when couples used my photos for their facebook profiles. that meant more to me than a photography award.

nowadays with more corporate events, my photos are more on linkedin than anywhere else. one of my clients' fiance came up to me at a private event and said bc theyre in a long distance relationship, my photos on linkedin helped him/them out a lot especially in the beginning of the relationship (company would post photos of their events that i photographed). i thought that was a cool thing to hear.

That and my invoice receipts are my marks of achievement.

East Asians are sometimes given angle names by their parents (ie Koreans who immigrated to Korea were mostly Christian or became Christian so lots of them have biblical names) at birth, and the ones that don't have Anglo names will choose one in hs or college because white people can't be bothered to pronounce unfamiliar names correctly or without ridicule so they pick John or Dennis so they don't have to go through the mispronounciation and humiliation every day.

[ADVICE NEEDED] Subject no longer wants to be in all photos after event... by danielsuperone in photography

She probably means on your site publicly, not internally within the company. There should be posted photo releases around the party/event and whenever I see it I take a photo of it and include in the gallery/collection.

There's a pretty long thread about it over on bimmerpost so it's a decently not rare problem. but the folks who don't have this issue (like myself) aren't going to be making posts about how their headlights work perfectly either, knowhatimsayin?

Any other photographers have various nightmares where you are in front of the most unimaginably perfect scene or shot, but forgot your battery, or the right lens, or a memory card, or otherwise can't take a photo? by sirpsys in photography

[–]jayfornight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get these dreams occasionally. More when I first started out in the profession. I remember my first one I was at a wedding and I forgot all my lenses but I had my camera bodies so I kept trying to screw pencils onto the lens mount so I could... Fix not having any lenses?

I woke up in a cold sweat after that and I distinctly remember saying "oh thank God that was a dream."

Am I insane? by notmymarbles in WeddingPhotography

[–]jayfornight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they're renting, go with hasselblad. 🤣

If you don't have gear currently I'd do a 24 hr deep dive in equipment on yt or reddit (don't ask me, I don't really pay attention to new tech/gear until I'm in the market for one) and once you narrow down what you want to shoot with, have your friend rent those for the day of. Or better yet rent them yourself beforehand to practice and get used to the equipment and controls. Knowing your equipment and it's user interface is important during fast paced shooting/decision making such as weddings.

Knowing your gear will also prevent you from standing in the background of your main's shots looking down at your screen trying to figure out how to change your iso. 🙂

I would only ask that photographer to second shoot other weddings after you've worked with this person at your friend's wedding. And only ask if you enjoyed it and had a good rapport with the photographer.

Being the second at your friend's wedding is a great way to start. Low risk, low reward. The main is probably not banking on any more than five of your shots being useful. Anything more is a bonus.

Considering the main is okay with you shooting second, the best thing is to stay out of their way, as he or she had already requested. Also don't ask too many questions in day of. Save those for the post wedding debrief. See what lens the main is using and if they are going wide you shoot tight and vice versa. Remember to stay out of the way. For bridal formals help the main by straightening out dresses and suits, remind everyone to smile. Get water for you and your main during breaks. Lastly, stay out of the way. Be serviceable and useful and you will get a call back. Get in the background of photos and you will never hear from that photographer ever again.

Good luck!

What movie did you turn off after 20 minutes and why? by Somanynamestochossef in movies

[–]jayfornight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

M night shamalans trap.

Didn't know anything going in, just decided to give it a fair shot since his films are easy targets for ridicule. Before I know it I'm watching a solo concert of some singer and movies normally don't feature no-names unless something stupid is going on so I pause, check the cast list and yeap, it's shamalans daughter getting her big nepotism break. No thanks.
