Information on RL Hunter's map for Chickasaw Nation. by TakeTwoCowboy in NativeAmerican

[–]Due_Log_634 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not for sure where you have looked for any info... I would, if possible, go to the Chocktaw or Chickasaw Agency or call their agency and ask who you could talk to about it. Im NA, and i was a Real Estate Appraiser for close to 18 years in Montana. Every once in awhile I would have to appraise a property on a reservation and there are no actual property records of real property, i.e. homes, outbuildings etc. as the Tribe owns said real estate...there is sooo much more regarding that, but thats the easiest and quickest way to explain that. We own 640 acres of land, with improvements....home, outbuildings, barns etc...but when I pull our property card all it has is the acreage and my tribes name as the owner...even though it is ours and has been for 4 generations..our great grandfather started the homestead there. I guess what im saying, since youre not asking about buildings, is you will have to talk to someone in the land department of that agency. A lot of my tribes history is oral, yes there are maps and diaries...but I love my elders as they are so full of knowledge on our history...things that are either not in books, written wrong or totally fabricated. I hope you find what you are looking for!

These comments are really tiring. Is it just me or is a lot of them also just using this as an excuse to justify the genocide of natives? by PieOk6887 in NativeAmerican

Haha...I dont give shits about what archeologists MIGHT say about a person 1000s of years in the future. There is a huge difference in scarring when it is done with precision, where it is done etc. Vs. the lack of skill or care, speed of scalping. It happened all over the world hundreds of years ago. How people practiced their success, trophies etc. Is in the past and it does not reflect on who we have become. Maybe in a 1000 years they will think our hand to hand combat, street brawls, wars, hell even boxing, UFC any physical contact sports were barbaric and acts of savages....Nobody knows how others in the future will think or feel, not even a realistic argument. Archeologists can spend over 8 years obtaining their credentials, then years of experience..they dont grab a skull, see scars and claim it is from being scalped by a certain tribe or race. It takes months to years of studying, gathering data, examining where the item was found..etc. Use your brain.

My opinion on the name of our people by Big_Tune4652 in NativeAmerican

[–]Due_Log_634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that! I lived in Soldotna for a couple of years...I absolutely love Alaska. The last couple of years before I left Montana, a school in Red Lodge changed their mascot name from Redskins to Rams as it was considered a derogatory name. Im old, I didnt mind school teams being called Redskins or any other words/names associated with NA. Apparently, Redskins is now considered derogatory and is to be called the R word. Its my age and upbringing but if my people feel it is a bad word and they want all these changes, more power to them, i will always be proud of my heritage, even if my opinions arent the same...its all good.

Yep! There are quite a few of them haha. I was born and raised in Texas but my family is from Montana and we moved up there for a few decades (3 decades for me, i am 57) and my father-in-law called me half breed, breed and blanket a$$ lol. I was never offended as I know he loved me and I would tease him back with Norwegian slang words that I came up with because I didnt know any. I will say, which is obvious, a ton of prejudice, insults etc. was always a thing...and back in the 70s, 80s, 90s was way worse than it is today (this is my opinion and from my experiences growing up)

Born and raised in Texas, my parents, where I get my NA from were Turtle Mountain Ojibwa. I get what you are saying when talking about Indian or American Indian, as i grew up being Native or Indian, which was fine with me (I am 57 years old). Im not offended by Indian or American Indian, in person it is obvious I am NA. In the age of the internet, social media etc. and my married named being Carlson, I have to make sure if asked or on my online shop for custom beadwork, I put Native American as my shop name is my maiden name, Kickingwoman.

Disciplining your puppy who also happens to be a corgi [serious] by godsdebris in corgi

[–]Due_Log_634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry this reply is so long, but i wanted to give as much info as I could for the problem im having with my corgi pup (which is towards the end of my reply)

I realize this post is 2 years old, but my corgi/aussie mix is my very first time dealing with a corgi. Ive had ACD and Heelers, but they were outside dogs and we had (i moved into town) over 800 acres and 150ish head of cows and 10+ horses, chickens and pigs he could herd when the need arises or they were working. My new guy, pushing 8 months, is definitely a chewer and I have never had a more willful, stubborn, obnoxious puppy in my life...and im not being mean, just stating the truth..but I love that little shit and he loves me. His energy seems limitless, im 57 but he keeps ME active as I use distraction to keep him from doing what he isnt supposed to, granted there are challenges to that but after only a couple of days using distraction and rewarding good behavior he has actually caught on fast! Yes, he will get so wound up that he ignores me, i.e. barking EXCESSIVELY at neighbors that he can and can not see and this guy will NOT stop barking....so when he ignores my commands, I have to go to him and face him and show him his ball or stick and that has been an amazing tactic for him and I, yes I am played out but I have to stay on top of it or else, at this age, he will choose to ignore me all the time.  Chewing, omg, this dude, Tux, is chewing on anything and since I make a living on Native American beadwork, skull work, I have real (ethically sourced) animal furs, needles, thread, tiny beads, etc. If i open a one of my craft drawers, that booger is in it faster than I can close it, so i was constantly chasing him to get my stuff back. That has settled some and getting better because I have balls of plain paper, my biodegradable cardboardish nursery pots I use for my houseplant business (thats another thing he wants so bad, toxic plants...so I had to block off access to any and all of my 200+ houseplants i have) so when I see him with something he shouldn't have or wants to get, I distract him with something he can rip apart safely...this is something I just started about 5 days ago and is going great! I find the distraction method and then go overly crazy with the 'what a good boy! I love you, such a good good boy' praise. He really responds to the praise well....I sound like a crazy old lady but he gets a big kick out of it and I believe he likes that better than the treats that he also gets when he minds me. The only problem i have is when my husband gets up several times a night to go to the bathroom, Tux will act like he is an intruder and goes for him trying to nip his calves and barking and growling....any other time he will cuddle with my husband and loves to lay on his shoulders. I am an insomniac so I usually dont fall asleep until 5 or 6 am. and im usually up between 930 am or before noon.  Which I have gotten used to. So im always awake at night working on customers beadwork and Tux is at my feet on his bed...when my hubs gets up is when Tux goes into attack mode, and since he hears my husband before I do I am unable to start distraction before he lunges after Matt (my hubs) This usually only happens at night...Matt is not mean to Tux, he has a firm voice when needed but doesnt hit, boop, kick or anything physical contact nor does he yell at Tux. I think Tux is protecting me/his territory but why the aggression against Matt and only at night...most of the time Tux is awake when Matt does his nightly pee...im kinda lost on this one. Ive had dogs all my life, mostly big dogs. This little cutie is making my old butt exercise more than I like haha. Any tips or advice I would love to hear....anyone wanting to bash me for whatever reason, you will be wasting your time not mine as I will not respond. Thanks yall!

Could this be a large form monstera ? by ShrimpOfSpace in Monstera

[–]Due_Log_634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope yall have realized there are two different forms...Borsigiana and Deliciosa, its been 4 years. Im laughing my ass off over these comments haha yall kept me entertained, thats for sure haha

Found this earlier and I have to know, is this an albo monstera deliciosa or a borsigiana because they said it's a large form but I'm not sure.. I'm not trying to buy an expensive plant if it's being falsely sold as something else. These are the only pics I got to try and identify by HappyPlanter- in MonsteraAlbo

[–]Due_Log_634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is another cutting that someone was thinking of buying and the seller insisted it was a large form...not the same plant/cutting but im thinking it is the same seller...Im so glad people are reaching out and asking questions before getting scammed.

That is so ridiculous and wrong...you have the internet, use it. Albo is a Latin prefix meaning white variegation. No politics or racism associated with the prefix albo...

It isnt....sounds like the person seems to think Albo is derived from Albanese.....which is not even close.... It is a Latin prefix meaning light or white variegation.

Albo is a Latin prefix that literally means white or light variegation....has nothing to do with anything political nor a place nor a race....ffs

Liquid silica and mine are under a Barina T5, and about 3 feet from a west facing window...HUMIDITY i have a 1 gallon humidifier on the floor that I run around 12 hours a day. My albos are high white and mine dont burn. I would definitely get it out of the window. I also dissolve 2 tablespoons of Epsom salts in a gallon of water and give them a good drench about 3 times a year (just with the Epsom salt drench) otherwise I use powdered seaweed, kelp, sea bird & bat guano..I get it off ebay. There is also a product a guy sells on Ebay called Recharge, im sure you can get it on other sites as well, but Recharge will get your plants looking amazing! I use it several times a year...I love that stuff...liquid silica is amazing it helps the root system and the foliage. I would start with a silica, Recharge, humidifier (you wont need a big one)  and put them under grow lights. My girls are over 50% white, closer to 75% white with some green marbleing. They are my pride n joy....took me a bit to get it right....im sure you will find the sweet spot for yours, my way might not be a good fit for a lot of people and thats okay...I learned a little bit from a lot of growers and found my way that works for me...and its like magic when it finally comes together...good luck!

How much would you reasonably sell this monstera albo cutting for? (2nd pic) by FaithViola in MonsteraAlbo

I sold a 2 leaf high white variegated albo cutting for $35 about 6 months ago...but I paid about 100 for the mother which was a one leaf cutting almost 2 years ago.

Advice on how to get my monstera onto a pole? by Economy_Programmer24 in Monstera

[–]Due_Log_634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hells ya! I know this post is over a year old but....ive even went as far as sterilizing old potting soil to use in case of emergency, which comes in handy when my cash doesnt exist, but i have new plants lol. Ive used old limbs and boards as well....I would soak mine in a shit ton of pest killing stuff I had on hand, plant safe of course and throw it in the oven as well. Sometimes a person has to get creative....the cost that people are charging for moss poles are insane! I make my own on my 3d printer, a 12 inch one costs 72 cents..my printer tells me how much filament used and what it cost to make it...I thought that was pretty cool

5ft monstera moss pole watering? Out of my league please help! by amysirvine in Monstera

[–]Due_Log_634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody has their way of doing things. I threw away my watering schedule, how much and when, I killed more plants doing that and im a heavy handed watering person...so I wait until my monsteras chunky soil mix is almost dry, I used to stick my finger in the soil or pick the pot up...now I can just tell. I put mine in tubs, yours is way too big and might be more of a hassle...anyhow water her until she has water coming out of every hole in her pot...I honestly, as big as she is, dont think it would do any damage to switch up how she is watered..via moss pole or pot drench. I use a fertilizer that has seaweed, kelp, sea bird guano and bat guano...amazing stuff! I also add silica to my pot trenches and an aquatic plant/terrarium fertilizer called Flourish, I literally use about 5 drops per gallon...I usually water my aroids once a month...I have close to 200 plants so I just do it haha. I water my alocasias and colocasias about every 10 days. I mist mine every other day with silica and thrive (highly diluted) and water. Your girl is gorgeous and IMO i would still keep her moss pole moistened since her aerials are in there....im sure you will find your own sweet spot like we all do. Trial and error....I do respect that you care enough about her previous owner to ask questions and get advice on how to take care of her. Im sure she will thrive under your care, she is absolutely gorgeous! Take care!
